Sounds like big changes coming
Apparently, Seabrook is undergoing a total renovation (about time) to the entire facility. They are upgrading the poker and track experience and putting in a full-service restaurant. The website claims that "phase I" will be done in August. However, they are also claiming that some stage of renovation will be complete March 1st. In the meantime, everything has moved over to the track side under flood lights. It makes for an odd experience (I played a tourney there Saturday). Looking forward to visiting in March and seeing what's changed.

It looks like the HF handover is also happening in March. They are promising USB tables and more comfortable chairs.

Is $5 max rake really that high?

It is when you add $2 for promo drop.

…….and are accustomed to years and years of 4+1 at Foxwoods and Mohegan. The New England rooms are catching up to the industry norm that's all this is and the players have to adapt. It does make many of the lower limit games virtually unplayable without the associated action to offset the drops.

Sent the email, queued up my popcorn, and...... nothing, no response. When I click the redeem link now on the website it has me choose between email and PayPal to launch the link FWIW. PayPal choice still sends me to the send puck money part lol.
Good news is that now every time I am tempted to make a poor business decision I can now look at my cheers chips and memba this entertaining destruction of a perfectly good business.

People who complain about reasonable rake are horrible at poker and just can’t admit it.

There is plenty of bad players, action and reloads to win in the NH games. The point was with $5 max +$2 promo +$1 tip there is over $200 an hour going off the table makes beating the game difficult.

The part that simply can't be calculated is how many times will players reload or be replaced by a new buy-in? This is the only thing that will allow the 1-2 game to be beatable.

Example:

Table opens with 9 players with full buyins. (usually less, but whatever use full buy-in for this example): $2,700
Over 12 hours rake, drop and tips are taken off table: -$2,400

If it stopped there then 1 player broke even and everyone else got stacked. However, in order for the table to be open there had to be players. Let's assume the last hand of the night there was still an average stack of $100 (probably low, but whatever): -$900

Table is left with -$600.

So you are correct that rake can be beaten. However when the rake is higher and the buy-in is capped, skill alone isn't what will determine your chance of winning. You need a steady flow new money on the table throughout the day. And any player that cashes out as a winner during the session greatly hinders the ability of a grinder beating that game.

Eh, it's human nature to complain about things when they change against their favor, regardless of how it still is relative to others. For example, let's say for whatever reason gas in New England has been $1.00/gallon for the past 20 years. If tomorrow it gets raised to $1.50/gallon, people are going to complain, even though most of the rest of the country is $2+. It's just human nature.

How so? The rake is taken out of the pot that the hand winner gets.

I can't remember the last time I saw ~30 max raked hands dealt in an hour on 1/2, let alone over the course of 12 hours. Particularly as the tables open, action is especially timid with a lot of no-flop pots and check, bet, fold on limped flops. Sure, there's the occasional table of super loose and/or aggressive players that see lots of flops and make lots of raises, but they are certainly not the norm. Realistically I should think about $100-150/hour total coming off the stacks is more likely.

The rake is often smaller on the biggest of games too. I've seen 8 hands dealt in a row without a flop at 5/10 and lower stakes players are much more likely to tip more than $1 whereas the "pros" at 5/10 are almost always tipping $1, not to mention the much more frequent tanking that takes place in that game.

PLO is probably paying the most rake, but even that might be somewhat balanced by the extra time it takes to deal the cards, handle the higher frequency of multiple all-ins and split pots, and the tanking that can occur in that game.

Twice in the last 6 months I've been stacked by KQ off pre-flop all-in (first I had KK and today AA) for 125-150bb. Losing the hand doesn't bother me (thanks for trying to give your stack away) but how is it I find these two different guys that get it in so badly, celebrate, and go on for 5 minutes about how I played it badly. "You shoved on my moderate raise with KQ and a full buy-in... Are you honestly saying I should have folded?!" I've never celebrated a suckout and every time I've stacked someone I just say "nice hand" or something to that effect. Just don't understand the behavior.

It was probably their first win in months. Let 'em have this one.

Kinda like when the dolphins beat the pats. Just let it go. It's their moment.

Don't try to understand. Just be thankful you have players like this in your game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for the play and of course want that call in that spot. But 99% of the players I've had play like that have a polite "nice hand" or "ahhhh, that sucks, sorry!" It's this 1% that feels the need to needle someone out of spite AFTER getting extremely lucky that I would like to see leave the game or change their behavior.

Instead of asking them to leave poker forever, send them to my game please. I am more than happy to take some verbal abuse when someone makes bad plays and wins.

Glgl at the tables

They don't know better, and you shouldn't let it get to you. If they knew better, they wouldn't be putting themselves in such a bad position.

They are there to have a good time, so when someone starts up out come the headphones.
