Really? Every time I go and there is a list, it seems to take them forever to get a game going even when the list has over 10 people in it, to the point where I end up waiting 30+ minutes to get seated.

In the last 3 years, I've probably only waited 30 minutes once. But I'm in the routine of swiping my card and then going to add money onto it before coming back. Just get in that habit

Was at woodbine today, and had a conversation with someone at the table about a rumored actual cardroom in the facility.

Anyone heard anything about this? The guy said some of the security have said they are actually planning to get it going this year on the third floor? Not sure if there is anything to this at all, just what a random guy told me.

Nah I been hearing a lot about them having an actual cardroom too, I never heard about it going down this year on the 3rd floor though

They supposedly have plans to expand the absolute **** out of woodbine in the upcoming years as well

Played at Woodbine for the first time this weekend (Thurs, Fri, Sunday). Funny, I've been going to Niagara for NLHE since my home game ended a couple of years ago. Didn't know Woodbine had it.

This forum was very handy in helping me understand a little about the environment before I visited. The automated tables take a bit of getting used to - but I actually quite liked them when I got the hang of it.

There's a bit of paperwork involved to get going... You need to go to Winner's Circle first and get a player's card (needed driver's licence). Then you toddle off to the cashier's cage and open a Poker Account. Present your player's card and DL (again) and answer some personal questions (that bothered me a bit... why do they need to know my occupation?). Then you deposit some $ into your account and (finally) over to the poker lounge. If it's your first turn - do what I did and just ask them to show you the ropes. One of the gals there took me over to an empty table and we worked through logging in and moving money from the card to the table. Then we played a couple of friendly hands. All seemed fairly simple... Although sometimes the touch screen doesn't pick up the touch... it works best when you use a hard edge (like a pen top or the edge of the players card). In actual play - the other thing to get used to is to confirm every action after you select it (fold, call, bet and the amount).

So after the learning - I went to the sign-in station and put myself on the $1/2 list. And in a matter of minutes i was seated in one of the 12 or so tables.

You've probably heard it described before... essentially 10 chairs around a table (no dealer space, obv). A large (50"?) monitor in the centre and 14" monitors in front of every player. The player space also has a slot for your card and you login to the table and then buy-in from the $ deposited on your card (min $60 max $300).

The game plays like any other $1/2 game as far as I could tell. Opening raises varied from $6 to $25 with the median at about $10. Lots of limping, little 3 betting. Some occasionally whacked over-betting. I might have been a bit surprised at the chip stacks... I sat in in the late afternoon and 3 players were >500bbs deep. Average was probably $400 - 500 (although every table I sat on during the weekend had 1 or 2 short stacks <50bb).

Other points...
- all the equipment worked (although one of the other tables froze a couple of times I heard)
- servers don't come by very often (and are in stealth mode).
- I love having the stats at hand and the exact pot and stack counts
- a little harder (for me anyway) to pick up live tells with most of my attention at this point being directed to the table and the interface. Hopefully that'll improve.
- parking is fine and it's right by several major highways.

WB poker room closed due to strike, might be a few weeks..

Wish i saw this post before i drove over there tonight. Ugh

Haha, I was going there and found out through the internet. What I don't get is it's closed because the servers are on strike. What does that have to do with electronic poker? Maybe management feels that on a skeleton crew of servers the poker area is the least valuable area of the casino.

No kidding.

The drink service is the worst on the planet.

Add all the BS like having to go load or withdraw funds from your Winner's Circle poker account all the time, drive there, park and have to deal with all the gloominess, it's sometimes easier on the weekend to just crack open a nice craft beer at home and fire up a tourney or two on Stars.

Can't wait til the full service Casino is finally built and we get a real Poker Room in the Toronto area.

What I don't get is Woodbine has less staff than the regular casinos in the area. So why do they have to be so cheap on drink selection that is complimentary. No free hot chocolate, any coffee that is a level above office coffee. Beers that cost as much as beers at the top bars/strip clubs?

They also have lousy odds on the table games but that's to be expected if they are cheap with everything else.

Woodbine/OLG will announce the new owner/operator 99.99% in August of Woodbine 2.0, who will take over in 2018.

I found out about the lockout from management through either the Star or Sun's website. I also saw that management settled with one of the unions through one of the newspapers, so if you heard nothing, the strike is still on.

I saw on the news that they reached an agreement, can anyone confirm if the poker room is back open?

So it looks like a decision has been made and Great Canadian Gaming has won the bid to redevelop Woodbine.

This sucks for me as I'm Diamond at Caesars and was hoping CET would win making it easier for me to maintain my status every year.

I haven't been there but I did get an email saying it's open again

So back in June the WB staff was saying the new owners would be announced in August(true) and that the new owners will take over in January 2018.
10-30-2017 , 10:52 PM
Is the electronic poker room still operating? How is it?
12-27-2017 , 03:06 PM
Effective January 3rd, OLG slots at Woodbine will change it's name to Casino Woodbine as it was bought out by The Great Canadian Casino Company.

Plenty of rumors swirling about what this could mean for table games, comps, etc.

Nothing official about poker room changes, but with new ownership, it's at least a possibility.
01-02-2018 , 02:34 AM
Well we just found out what will be changing to the poker room....it will be closing effective January 23rd with no news yet about a live dealer replacement for the existing room
