Edit: it was pretty damn fun celebrating with the whole table. It was a cool experience to be a part of a BBJ. Just wish it happened when I was at MCC in Detroit where it was over $530k for the BBJ!

Hey everyone... I'll be passing through here later this month and I'm curious what the situation is with room offers/rates for someone who has never had a card here before. They aren't affiliated with any other rewards systems right? So I'd have to build up play first and thus won't benefit on my first trip through? FWIW (which I assume is nothing?) I have Diamond with Total Rewards and Gold with MLife.

Thanks!

Yeah they have own rewards system. Highly doubtful you'll get anything first time around. Especially just from poker.

I think Shai Hulud said you have to play 20 hours of piker before you get a weekday discount or free room, can't recall the exact deal.

I'm actually not sure what the specific amount is. It's at most 20 hours though, because that's about how long I played my first visit and I got comped rooms the next one (Wednesday and Thursday--unsure if they need more hours for weekend stays). Just have to make sure the dealer scans your Player's card whenever you sit.

Thanks everyone! I'll make sure I get a card and try to build it up for next time. Hopefully the offers stay for a while, since I'm only going to be in the area once or twice a year. I should get 20 hours in over two or three days, though.

Anything else I should know about Winstar? Any must-try restaurants or great promos or anything?

Sadly the best place to eat near the poker room is Panda Express or the Sonic next to the parking lot.

Not sure if they are still doing it but the Terrace View Cafe in the hotel had late night weekday breakfast deals. Cheap steak and eggs, pancakes, American breakfast worth checking out if there during the week late at night.

I like Khan's Fire. They do some pretty good stir fry dishes and it's fairly cheap. Certainly not a premium restaurant, but better than Panda Express I think.

Disclaimer: I'm vegan so I haven't tried most of their restaurants. They do have a steak house, an Italian place, Tex-Mex, a number of cafes, etc., that might be decent. You can find restaurant descriptions and menus on Winstar's website in the dining section. Few of them are close to the poker room though as it's on the far South end of the casino, but you can walk the whole casino in about 15 minutes.

The Panda Express and Dairy Queen are the closest restaurants to the poker room.

Khans fire is cheap? Isn't it like $12 for a meat bowl?

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure most of their stuff is in the $5 - $10 range, but I can't find the menu online, and it's been about a month so I could be wrong.

It may be $12 for seafood combo bowl. I think regular is $8ish. It is a pretty good amount of food also.

Depends what you like I guess. I like Asian cusines, and I thought Khan's was pretty good for the price. I ate there a few times and got the Feast Bowls with vegetables, which is likely cheaper than meat. I'm pretty sure I paid less than $10, but I can't recall exactly, I just thought it was reasonable for what I was getting.

The red river grill (just really a lunch counter) is in the poker room (and will deliver to the table), and the NYC Burgers and Dogs is the closest restaurant. Their stuff is not bad, a bit overpriced, but pretty fast. Khan's fire is about a ten minute walk from the poker room. It is very close, though, to the GEC (Global Event Center) if you are playing in one of the River events.

Oh, and the Poker room is moving very soon, so it will be even further away from any of the Casino restaurants (it is moving to where the bingo room is, though it is not taking over the whole bingo room, just part of it)

It's an easy drive. Not very excited about any of the hotels there but the La Quinta, Comfort Suites and HI Express are all serviceable.

Going there tomorrow to spew money in the daily donkment (a guilty pleasure of mine). I will see if they have an exact date. Last few times I have been down there, they have had people observing the poker room operations, so I thnk they are still in the design phase. they were originally going to try and get it done before The River, but that didn't happen.

Did they finally reopen the pizza place? And what is the new place that was opening next to it? I heard Denny's but that sounded odd.
