No wonder they dont have any business.....

I try to get a poker room rate for a Friday and the lady told me that my average is a few minutes off of 4hrs per sitting.

She told me I am very very close to a poker room rate.

What a joke.

What is their poker room rate??

I use to stay, play their a few years back.. The room use to be great and I preferred it over the Taj any day. The Q is pretty good, I like a couple of restaurants there, but havent stayed there in a while.. Is it true that even the Q rooms are just as bad as the others???

Do they have a live link to the poker room like some others have? If so, can some one let me know where to find it? I will be in AC next weekend, and may stop and play one night, like the good old days...

First time playing live in a casino this weekend. I really thought I was going to be donating my 200 for the learning exp so I didn't get a room because I thought it woud just be a day trip.

2 hours later I was up 90 and decided to let the wife know we were staying the night. 8 hours later I was looking down at over a 1000 dollars.

Are live games really this soft? or did I just get lucky? It seemed like nobody minded if I wanted to see the flop for just 2 bucks.

As a side note if you need a room last minute the Days Inn right across the street from the Trop is about 60 bucks a night.

You, I don't know about, but your wife deserves better than the Days Inn

Touche

No reservations on a Friday night meant it really was the only option.

Might get stuck playing here tomorrow (friend's choice). Does anyone actually still play at the Trop?

I do actually see people playing here so yes....they do play at the Trop still. But it's far from the poker room of choice by many poker players in AC. Still soft games though. But the last time I was there everyone was a salacious NIT!

got back from playing. room was pretty dead but came home with 300 win. would have been 800 but a hootie look-a-like hit a four outter on the river to catch a boat and crack my flopped straight. All money was in on the turn - hate losing as a 90% fav. Really hate when the suckout guy screams like a girl lol.

Anyway - room was pretty dead with only 3 tables of 1/2 and no tables of 2/5 for most of the day.

However, lots of pots of 200 or more during the 3 hours I was there. Still give free parking for playing 2 hours which is nice.

hmmm - is my 300 enough for both sisters?

New ownership took over more than a year ago. From the lack of input in this thread, no major changes have taken place except they lost a bundle to a high limit blackjack player about a month ago and the Prez was replaced.

It still has the best poker rate if you need a room during the week Some place on the website it says $29 Sun thru Th. Don't know if you can earn that price from 1 - 4+ hour session.

Like many of you, have not set foot in the place since early 2005. Long time.

If you can believe, still have a picture poker room card sitting in the drawer. Guess it would still be valid.

With two new AC rooms coming (new Revel) and in the fall a room at the reinvented Golden Nugget (Trump Marina), the status of the Trop will drop off the charts. AC poker rooms will survive through the summer, because of increased shore traffic.

But by fall and if a resurrection of online poker begins to happen (not that likely), poker rooms will have to up the promotions. If the room is not a moneymaker (no pun) a consolidation of rooms will occur. Trop poker room may be out?

Any opinion?

i like playin at the trop, it gets busy on the week ends. iv seen 2 tables of 2/5 runnin on saturday nights and some1 told me they had some O8 last saturday night.

the trop is not up to date with other casinos in town, but not in a bad way. i like the old school feel of the place.

when compared to just the poker rooms on the board walk:
i never see 2 tables of 2/5 runnin at ballys, i never see hi/lo runnin anywhere but the taj -- i wont go to the taj if im alone. and no1 plays the showboat so i think the trop could survive

theres also a ton of places to eat at the trop

quick notes on the poker room:

its def an older crowd.

younger people play there cuz their parents (the older crowd) have comps and free rooms

theres more than just 1/2nl and 2/4lhe on the weekends

serious grinders, and the heavily bankrolled are probly at the borg or somewhere else playin, so u probly wont find a dude wearing shades, hoodie and head phones at ur table

the only thing i dont like about the poker room is its location. it seems secluded as u walk by the room, but feels anything but secluded while seated. meaning someone walkin by might not stumble into the room wanting to try poker cuz it dosnt look inviting to passer bys. and once seated, some of the tables are right near escalators and when the escalators are in view while playing, it really kills the poker room atmosphere as it feels more like playin cards in a mall

FYI

They just started running a 1/3 game here. I think the max buy is 500 ( min 100).

Yeah most of the tables are still 1/2. The past few weeks they have started a 1/3 table and it usually fills up pretty fast.

Going down to AC tomorrow and staying at the Taj. I will stop by Tropicana and check out the 1/3 game to see if I can get on it. I think this is a good idea.

as long as they dont remove the 1/2 or bring in a 1/1. what are the buy-ins for 1/3 there btw? the 1/2 is the ac standard $60-$300 right? i think the 1/3 at ballys is something like 100-300

im goin down sat night most likely. fingers crossed for some 2/4 O8, will probly try the taj and the trop. would appreciate some1 posting if they see any omaha runnin this weekend

Trop isn't popular with those who would post here, for certain. But the trop does have some pretty good nightlife. Nightlife means a younger audience, and a younger audience wants casinos to have poker. I think we should hesitate before we start digging the trop's grave.

That said, any room that still has tube televisions instead of flatscreens is def going to be accused of being outdated. The problem is there's not much of a point to be investing money into AC casinos these days.

Odd how it has a bad rep just as the Trop LV was rennovated.

Trop LV and Trop AC are not affiliated with each other. Different owners.

I went down to AC this past weekend and stopped by the Tropicana to check out there 1/3 game. The max buy-in is $500 with a minimum of $100. There were 8 names on the list when I signed up and the game never got off. They called the game and I was the only person to show up off the list. I think everyone on the list was busy playing 2/5. If Trop implements newer and better games than some of what is spread in Atlantic City, it's not too late for them to come back and be one of the better poker rooms in Atlantic City. Additionally, they used to have a 10K guaranteed tourney with one optional add-on they used to run twice a week. It used to draw 100+ runners on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If someone with some innovation starts getting a little more creative there with their tournament structures and payouts then Trop might make a rebound. It's never too late.

As far as the rooms there go. They are normal casino type rooms and they are comfortable. But when the previous owners had it there were complaints of bed bugs in the rooms. This is one of the reasons the previous owners had to sell it. That's enough of a complaint to never want to make me lay my head there. I assume it's OK now, but bed bugs are really difficult to get rid off, especially since some of the pesticides that were very effective at eliminating them have been banned by the tree huggers. Apparently at least one pesticide was bad for birds and bad for trees and was outlawed against use after almost eradicating bed bugs all together.

I don't know what the poker room rate at the Trop is. I do know they have a promotion where if you hit a royal flush then you win a free Saturday night room at the Trop (not a bad promotion). Just don't get bit while you sleep!

played trop sat night for a lil after playin 2 other rooms.

during the week im sure the room is slow but on a weekend night there is plenty of tables goin. they had at least one 2/5 and a 2/5 must move and a bunch of 1/2 tables (there was limit action as well).

i played some 1/2 and was amazed to be at a table with 2-3 soft seats after playin tougher tables at caesars and the taj earlier in the night.

had a good time. lots to do at the trop besides poker. i like the the deli and the bar there. they aslo have european video roulette with .25¢ min bet, best time killer ever

I started playing live poker at the trop but haven't been in a long time and the GF loves the place so I will be staying there July 9th-14th and was wondering does anyone knows if 1/2nl usually runs early in the week(mon-wed) and if so how many tables can i expect to see from early afternoon to late evening? or should i just look elsewhere for games. Thanks in advance
