I agree that the room is just yucky and it is hard to get around. I liked to play there also because of the other amenities offered by the property, but I now go to other rooms because the poker room is not very nice. I hope they fix it up a little. Last time I played there I told Charlie that they needed to fix up the place and he told me that he hoped it would happen after the buyer took over the place. It's been at least 6 months since that happened and it sounds like it's still a dump.
I told the story earlier in the thread but I basically had not played there in a year so my play from previous trips did not exist in their system. I was told by the poker room before booking a trip that I could get the rate if I played enough hours while there on the trip. I played enough hours and they refused to adjust my room rate anyways.

zero

I complained about the players constantly talking to their buddies during a hand and the talking in another language but it didn't any good. So now I play elsewhere. I think there are a lot of grinders who play in teams at the Trop.

I wouldn't go there again even for a freeroll. IMHO I think the poker room management needs to be cleaned out. The room sucks.
It's funny you should bring this up about spectator involvement in the Trop poker room. A few years ago I am sitting in a 1/2 NL game stacking chips all night, one of the softest games I was ever involved in. I'm in seat 4 and a friend of mine is in seat 1, the player in seat 9 has a friend behind him...his friend was standing however. I see the guy in seat 9 turn around and motion toward my direction while talking to his friend. A few hands later I notice his friend standing behind me for no apparent reason. My friend sitting across from me gets my attention to look behind me and this guy is trying to look at my hand. So I call the floor over and tell them whats going on. The floor guy stands there for about 10 minutes as we continue to play. A few hands later I announce raise, unfortunately it was out of turn(what can I say is was 5:30 Am and I was a bit loopy) anyway some kid in seat 6 says you are cheating....so I not so kindly tell him to shut the **** up. I then get a ten minute "break" from the floor guy. As I am leaving the room the floor guy is following me barking in my ear about banning me. For the record I was calmly leaving the room, I needed a smoke anyway. As I leave the room the barking got old and I flip the guy off behind my back. After my smoke my friend tells me I'm getting thrown out. I get back to the table and there are 15 security guards waiting to escort me and my chips to the cashier. They then take me to some security room take a mug shot of me and take away my poker card and slot card. I was down there with some friends and we were staying at the Trop luckily my gf had the room in her name because they made me leave the casino completely and said if the room was in my name then everyone would have had to leave. All this because I called the floor over to keep an eye on this guy's friend.

Is Scott still managing the room?

When he first came, he made significant improvements, then the "suits" stepped in and the room went to crap. I stopped playing there around the time the Borg opened and have not been back since.

I used to sit in the 10-20 that went right across from the hi-lo table. I knew most of the regs in that game. [name removed] was a good friend, so is [name removed]. But, the game... ugh.

Up until (give or take) 2 years ago they spread 4/8 LHE, pink chip, 5/10 stud, and 3/6 O8.

Wouldn't be shocked to see that room close soon...

Thanks for this post. I'm headed from FL to NJ next week and will avoid the Tropicana.

My goodness wife drags me to the trop because her inlaws got us free rooms. go into the poker room and there are 5 tables running. holy **** this room used to be packed. the highest stake was 1-2 NL and they had a 2-4 limit game running. i am no where near a high roller but i said tomorrow the borgata to my wife (play 5-10 NL) or some 10-20 omaha 8/0. Also they eliminated the horse room so there is no horse betting anymore(yes I am a horse player) and could not believe my eyes. That poker room will be closed or made even smaller in about a year.

I think they've been sliding downward, ever since the ownership problems.... but I didn't realize that the poker room had slid THAT much!

The Trop was my first love in AC years ago. I used to waste all my bouncing money at their "big" stud game back in college (15/30/45 is high stakes when you only bring $600 to the casino w/ you LOL). I haven't been to the trop since '06. It will never be able to compete w/ any of the big rooms in AC and may become the next room to disappear.

I have heard some rumors since the Trop poker room in AC is in such bad shape that all that are left there palying are the fish. It is apparently pretty bad as far as the level of play goes. LOL if that is true. I may just head up there to see for myself. But I won't play anything but 1/2 or 2/5 if they spread it.

I play there just about every weekend to get my hours in for the room - it seems the total opposite. The table is filled mostly with the regulars (some nits and others tight/aggressive) that I have seen there over the years. The problem now is that instead of having a couple at each table, they're all at the same table since theres only one 2/5 game.

idk about 1/2 tho.

how do you look @ your comps, and know what you have available, w/ no online access where you put in a card## and check?? and does the trop have poker rate rooms on the weekend?? Unfortunately the crap tables were not friendly to me, to the tune of a few thousand over a few hours, I wanna at least try to squeeze a room out of them for my trouble....
and to anyone in the know@ trop, do they have an upgrade program, where you show a harrah's diamond/borgata black card, and get their upgraded card?

all you need is about 4hrs at 2/5 (probalby 5 for 1/2) and then you can reserve a weekend room. 99 friday and 129 saturday. (this should go down in Sept)

You can't check your balance online but there are a couple kiasks in and near the poker room where you can swipe your card. You get paid $2/hr which comes off the room rate (or food, etc.)

I dont really think they have any other upgrade cards available. Just one card for poker.

It's sad to see the trop in such disrepair. I cut my teeth there when it was one of the few nl games going in town. Back in 2001/2002 they had a 1-2 nl game that went off before their 7:15pm tournament. It was awesome back then when 1-2 and the pink chip game were the big games lol. I remember John Hennigan and Ted Forrest playing 300-600 LHE in the back of the room. It's sad to see it go.

So I am heading to the tropicana in atlantic city for the first time and was wondering how the poker room is and the play? Also what games do they have going regularly and whats the min/max buy in for their 1/2 game? Thanks for the help

Their room is pretty bad these days. They have mostly 1-2 and 2-4 with 1 or 2 tables of 2-5 with lot of regs. They don't get too many tables. The play is bad(duh). I would go to Borgata if possible. Min/Max is 60/300, the standard in AC.
