If anyone is interested here are my results at the lower stakes in the star: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...ostcount=12604

I am starting a very busy job so will not have much time for poker going forward.

Very solid rates and consistent with a number of sources except for the 2/3, there is no way that should be less than what you made at 1/2 and experience agrees with that assessment.

Star lolaments. Action to turn irrelevant. I'm first to act. I'm sitting there silently with one hand folded away and resting my chin on the other - i.e. neither hand is near the table. Dealer: "that's a check". Me: "huh? I haven't done or said anything, where did you get the check from?". "you touched your face, that's a check". Me: "?!? this is quite possibly the most lolworthy call I have ever seen a dealer make in years of playing". "oh, some of the old guys do that to check so it's a check".

If any dealer or supervisor at star is reading this, just because some old guy is allowed to get away with obscure actions that nobody else understands nor sees does not mean that these now become universally binding on the rest of the players in the room. If for the past hour I have checked by either clearly announcing "check" or clearly tapping the table and all my bets and raises are clearly and unambiguously announced why do you get this idea that I am checking this one time in a smallish pot by silently touching my face lightly with one finger?

Rant over.

Anyone have any thoughts on the differences in skill between 2/3 and 2/5 at the star? I'm currently beating 2/3 for $45/hour over 250 hours (I know small sample size etc) but whenever I take shots at 2/5 I feel absolutely outclassed by some regs and just play awful. Any advice?

There are definitely more better players at 2/5 and 5/5 and it's more aggressive which takes some getting used to. But if your results are really that good, you should be able to adjust. You should think about why you're playing though - if you need the money and that really is your win rate, then there's a decent argument for staying put

Hey guys, I'm an online reg there trying to shot take through the stakes in the star in the NL and PLO cash games (and some tournies). Binked a couple of donkaments here and there at The Star for some nice scores and ran really pure (feel free to check out my PGC). Not really trying to grind out an hourly on a particular stake but more about jumping limits and getting to the nosebleeds to play v guys like AJ. Anyone doing the same - aggressively taking shots to go up the limits? If so, feel free to msg me and we can talk some strats/adjustments/profile some specific regs

They open new tables at 6pm and 9pm, so make sure you arrive soon after one of these times. Tables start emptying again by 11 and wait list disappears

Wait times these days aren't too bad, you missed the good ol' days when waits could be 2 hours+ for 1/2.

Hey guys, I plan to visit Sydney and probably play some poker at Star City, mainly for PLO. Does PLO game run every night? If yes, when would it usually begin (6pm/9pm)? What is the common stake running on weekdays and on weekend? Thank you in advance.

There is no 2/4, the NLHE games running are 2/3, 2/5, 5/5 and 5/10

New room whilst renovations are undertaken is total failure. Walked up to desk tonight... over 100 in waiting list for 2/3 for 4 tables and almost 50 in waiting list for 2/5 for 2 tables. I'm not hanging around for that.

What time? Really have to aim for 6 or 9 when the new tables open

PLO lowest stake is 1/3 and then there is 5/5 and often 5/10/20. And.....there was a 100/100/200 game running on Friday if you have deep pockets

Hey guys, I used to work at the star but its been so dang long since I've been there (almost 5 years) would anyone have any Info on the buy ins for the 1/2 as well as rake (is it still 10% capped at 8?)

Looking to grind up a roll there this year and figured Wednesday and Saturday would be the days I'd play. Any info on these days? Thanks guys!!!

2/3 is lowest stake. 200-300 min buy in, $5 an hour plus 10% rake capped at (I believe) 10

2/3 is 100-300 buy in. Rake is correct, 10% capped at 10.

There is a cashier next to the poker registration desk where you buy your chips. Then they make you walk to the main row of windows to cash out. Almost like the casino wants to make it easy to spend your money but loses interest when you're collecting theirs.

I think what he means is similar to running an account - good for players who play with large sums so they don't have to carry tens of g's on themselves to and from the place.
