I played at the soaring eagle for many years, but have not been back since they opened Firekeepers in Battle Creek. I started playing at the eagle in 1997 where I mostly played 7stud. When the 10-20lhe game got big it was the most profitable game I have ever played in. I agree with some of the earlier posts that these "good ole days" where much better. As far as the monthly deepstack goes it is an OK structure that I played in twice. Took 4th place for almost a 2k payout the 1st time and knocked out early the 2nd time. The poker room at Firekeepers is far and away a much better poker room in every category. If given the choice I pick FK or SE everyday of the week. However, if we could get a regular 10-20 game going again then I would play at the Eagle.

Anyone know if they still sell out the end of month deep stack tourney? Its been years since I've played in it and back then it would fill up every table they had and I'm wondering if its still as popular.

Yes I am sure they do fill up the end of the month tournament...as to why anyone still plays in their live games anymore I will never know... after playing there off and on since 2008...and then going to play at other places...it honestly is a crap hole... the room use to be good...but now it's not worth going to... you are better off going to firekeepers or detroit or even a charity room lol

Nope they don't fill up. I played in the end of Aug one right after I posted on here. The tourney only had 142 runners. I cashed and made the final table finishing in 9th, so I woulda made more money if they woulda sold all their seats.

Stopped by Soaring Eagle last saturday (have played there a couple times a year since 2007). I've always had a good experience except I have found the overall attitude of the dealers to be a couple points lower than the mean (this time was an exception, everyone was great).

A dealer I have seen for years did make a mistake where he awarded a pot to a guy with T8s instead of chopping it with a guy who had TT on a 679x8 board but it was easily rectified and made right.

They also had a tournament going on which kept all the seats at our 1/2 table full of players as they busted out which kept the games good (probably better than an average day, but the games have always been soft).

The 4/8 O8 game was running from the time I got there until I left and even at times had a wait list. I played it for about 20-25 minutes while waiting for an NL seat to open up and even with me at the table the average age was ~55 and it was soft as you could imagine, the fact that you can put a half kill on it probably makes it a good game to pass time in when nothing else is open even with the rake eating away at the lower stakes.

Final thought: I have never seen a betting line so far away from the edge of the end seats, I understand they do it so that dealers don't have to reach so far but it is laughably far. The lady at the end could barely reach it when she was trying her hardest and it must have been uncomfortable (I don't want any aspect of a game making a player want to leave the game earlier than they would have).

Overall I like this room and will continue to hit it up every summer when I'm in MI.

edit: One last issue. A guy I was playing with all day was 99% convinced the BBJ went from 99k on friday night to 96k on saturday, do they draw from it for anything else? I assume he was mistaken but he was very convinced and seemed to be an observant guy.
