So how many we looking at for this? What time you all thinking as well? I know my wife has been itching to play all week, so I guess we are four thus far. 33, I know you weren't trying to derail anything, and if SKC was a little closer, I might actually think about going down. Derby's been spreading 1/1 PLO for about week and a half now, but I wanted to get a mix going (we could even discuss other games, if people want to experiment). I hope all the rooms get a spread of mix games going, because NLHE gets a little boring, from time to time.

From my experience trying to open up the Friday mix game we are going to need a full table to start. So I'm not even going to commit to coming unless we are close to that.

I can go get jerked around at the Rock for half the headache, and time in the car.

You guys should try to start the game either on Monday, bc of the insane high hand promotions we have on that day.

Or do it on Wednesday, bc we now have a $200 NO RAKE tournament that should have a lot of entrants and will cause a lot of games o go off after.

Fridays are still better than saturday bc of the high hand promotions for that day.

Just making suggestions is all. Either way I am crossing my fingers that you guys get something going.

Right now for me Saturday is the day I have. I wish I had more flexibility in days, but with work, school and teaching, does not allow for time now other than weekends. :-(

I think your misunderstanding, I am in for Saturday if we get enough to start the game at the specified time.

What I am wary of which you didn't experience, since you only played the mix game the one Friday(that I know of), is that we get 5-6 people there which would be enough to get the game running(and raked) and they refused to open the table until we had a full list for game. No amount of tips or bugging them would get them to open it sooner, or to to get them to announce it in a consistent manner to alert people the game was even available(This is ok practice for another table of ****ty low limit NL in the room). Some of us milled around for 2 hours one week with 6 on the list waiting for it to get opened.

This is highly annoying for a few of us who came from 1-hour plus away to play the game, are willing to start it shorthanded, and were the ones that were propping up the game all night long.

This is mostly why the Friday game died, there are plenty of us to keep the game going, but it was a hassle. With the exception of Joao you got treated like a ******* for even asking to open up a game they are going to make money on.

Actually hearing that the game died, I thought exactly that, people other that Joao didn't really care, which I hate to say is most attitudes at rooms, if it's not NLHE, it's not worth their time.

Well, I will say this, I know for a fact that I will be at The Silks on Saturday (wife and friends have planted the flag in the sand, so that is where we will be) so I am in for the game, but if it doesn't go I'll play 1/2 NL and be fine. I'd love to see something else go, but THR infuriates me to no end, and my friend doesn't want to drive to Derby (so we are driving to Silks)

Don't get me wrong, I like the Silks, I'm not unhappy to play their, but I know PLO is being spread 5 minutes from where I live at Derby, so I know a game will go off. I'd like to see this happen Saturday at Silks.

That's because a blind monkey can deal LHE and NLH. Why exert yourself at your job if you don't have to. This is also the main reason holdem is so damn popular, nobody wants to calculate 20 outs or what their sixth street bet meant. They are just there to recreationally gamboool.

Were you able to check on this? I realize its probably not on your top list of priorities.

I remember when you use to get to chose between a bucket of balls and a Derby Lane hat if you had AA cracked. That was so great I got so many free buckets of balls in the straight 2 limit days.

No, people don't want to play other games because they don't know how or understand the concepts of other games. They saw NL on tv and think it's "cool" to be playing something they see ppl on tv playing. You sit at a table in silks 1/2 stakes and ask the table who knows how to play anything other than maybe stud and no one knows. It's actually quite sad.

Hey Rob,

I think this assessment is a little unfair to be honest.

They would not open the table short handed bc we had a lot of people (besides the core that included you) that would short buy and once they lost one bullet would dip. Not to mention it is not like it generated a lot of people on the interest list to keep the game going.
Also, we were doing it on a night where all dealers and all tables were needed. If there is 20 people on a 1/1 list and 5 for the HORSE, their business model is that it is most fair to open another 1/1 game with that table so less people would be sitting around waiting.

If we were going to continue to run a game where only the same 5 faces showed up every week and a couple of more signed up to play randomly we needed to do it on a weekday. On a Tuesday they would open a game HU for you guys and not care, bc we have open tables an dealers sitting around with nothing to do.

I loved dealing that game and I loved that you guys came to our room. I hope you guys come back and I hope that we one day generate more interest to get it going steadily again.

I am sorry, to be honest I forgot about your question.
I will ask tonight when I go in. If it happens to not be the case where you can use it for balls I will write my boss an email and see if he could make that an option.

Unfortunately, the answer is no you can't. I will make the suggestion though for sure, bc I think that would be good for all ends.

YG

I know what your saying, trust me THR is even worse when it comes to opening a 1/3 game. 25 people on the list 2 tables open, but with 15 on the 1/2 game and 25 tables open, they open another 1/2 game. No lie, that happened 3 Saturday's ago. We waited almost an hour to get on a table.

I think if a room wants to expand it's selection they need the full buy-in from the room, dealers, players, management to make it happen. You do a great job, but other than on 2p2 there is no movement to make it happen.

For example, I know about 2-3 months ago you all tried running mix game tournaments, but each week, if I'm not mistaken was a different game leafing up to a final tournament. There were three problems I saw with this...

A) the tournaments were posted, but no marketing really done ( flyers posters etc...) I could post that I'm having a 550 satellite to the ME but if I don't promote it I'm relying on word of mouth. That satellite would generate interest because of it's clear message, but I would still want more details, like how many advance? Is it transferable? Are expenses included? But for unique tournaments, like HOSE I think people need education.

B) for something you are just starting, why are you making things so complex? Have a HOSE or HORSE tourney be just that a one day mix tourney. Want to do a TOC? That's cool, but confine it to a single structure. When you start in with wk 1... Holdem wk 2.... Omaha. Wk 3... Etc... You lose people. You all are doing it again with Sunday SNGs. What does it mean? Only Sunday's can you play SnGs? Are there any incentives to play on Sundays? Ante up just did a whole segment on their podcast about the lack of SnGs and goos structures and payouts. This is a great opportunity to get with a big name voice in the poker community, especially after black Friday.

C) no one talks things up at your room. THR doesn't care and they still have 4-5 dealers that talk promos and tournaments up. Derby even more. Your room has some very personable dealers that only focus on 1-2 people at the table. If I were running a room, I would tell my dealers to end the first five minutes blending with the table. ALWAYS acknowlegde your regulars of course, but the best games are when the dealers try to deal fast, bit be personable to the whole table getting people to relax. And pop in with a, "anyone hit the high hand?" Or, "you hear we're starting a no rake 200 dollar tourney? You best marketers are your dealers, you don't want to burden your players", but do want to educate.

YG, I offer this because I like your room, these are the things I do, am in school for, that have consistently worked in other businesses. Do with it as you feel, disagree, which I would respect, but I think these could help generate addition business for your room, and more tips overall. I'll be out there probably all day, stop and say hey.

i'm planning on being at silks around 7 tonight and hopefully there are enough people to start the $1/2 NLHE/PLO mix table at that time, and if not i'll plan on playing $1/2 until the table gets going.
