Ok this was for last weekend but let's revive it for this weekend (Aug 15th).

Will be playing the 7pm tonite and then 1/2 NL afterwards. Black Nike hat if anyone wants to say hi.

Thanks for the info guys, thinking I might actually blow a hundred bucks on the 11am tournament, then play some cash games after - who knows maybe I'll get lucky in the donkament!

How are the 2/5NL games at the Showboat? Is it a big jump in skill from the 1/2? More regulars at that game, less players to the flop I'm assuming?

I'll be at the Borgata on Sunday playing 1/2 NL thread.

Do we have an official Borgata thread?

I was only going to get in that one if there were 73 or more people.

What have the turnouts been for the mid-week 11A/2P tournaments during the Summer? Trying to make it down Wednesday into Thursday of this week.
08-16-2008 , 03:55 PM
I was there this past week playing cash and the tournaments I saw mid-week seemed to have in the neighborhood of 60-70 players.

Not sure of the rate, but you only need four hours of play to qualify for it.

anton4, are you sure it isn't 5 hours?

Xxrod17xx is it around 65 dollars or so after tax and other expenses?

One of the persons there told me that i had to book a room at the showboat first for the regular price on M-Thursday. Then play the 5 hours and then they will call back the hotelperson and will then give you the poker room rate. Can someone confirm this?

I did the poker rate at Harrah's about a month ago (it may be different at Showboat):

About 4 or 5 days in advance, I called the poker room directly and asked for the poker rate. They transferred me to the front desk. The front desk booked the room for me at $59 ($10 more than Showboat). When I checked in, the front desk did not say anything about a different rate or having to play a certain amount of hours. I played about 6 hours that night at Harrah's. When I checked out the total was about $76 after taxes, fees, etc.

It is sunday through thursday and if they have rooms rates available they can give them to you in advance if they think you are going to play the 4 or 5 hours whatever it is. You just have to talk to one of the pits.

what do you mean by advance rod? You mean go there sunday and then ask them for Monday and then on Monday you play the 4-5 hours? I talked to them last time on the same day

I mean you dont have to play 5 hours then get the rate, they will give you the rate then play 5 hours.

They have the Air show this week which usually sky rockets the room prices on that day and the ones around it. Doubtful they will be giving many poker rates on those days especially at a boardwalk casino.

Finally got to the Showboat for the first time this past Saturday. Overall I was very impressed with the poker room. The setup was nice. I liked how the poker room is in the House of Blues area - it feels separate from the rest of the casino, and relatively quiet without being too isolated from the main casino. (And the main casino at Showboat is extremely loud.) The chips, tables, and chairs were all very nice.

I played in the 11am tournament, made it to the final 2 tables but was card dead at the end. There were the usual mix of terrible and pretty good players in the tournament. One guy had the PokerStars shirt and crazy-eye sunglasses that he put on every time he was in a hand, like an imitation Raymer. Seemed like a pretty nice guy though, and he was definitely a good player. He made the final table, not sure if he won it. I ended up desperation-shoving with J9 and lost to KT when neither of us paired. I think there were 81 runners total, 8 made the money. I think I busted out in 14th. I liked the structure and the fact that there were no antes. Gave you more room to maneuver than most of the daily tournaments I've tried.

After that I played some 1-2NL. Play was typically loose for live 1-2. I lost a pretty big pot when I called a $12 preflop raise with 99. Flop came J-3-7, my opponent bet $12 again. With that weak bet I figured he had overcards or a small pair, so I tried to represent the J by raising to $40. He called, and he only had about $50 left. I shoved on the turn when a 4 came. He called again and showed TT, saying "I figured you had the Jack but wanted to see it." The river was a T giving him a set, so I was kinda glad I didn't have the Jack.

Later I won a big pot when I called a raise to $12 on the button with 3 callers with 89 offsuit. It was a loose call but people were willingly going all-in with top pair, so I figured my odds were good if I hit a big flop. Flop came 2-3-8 with 2 diamonds. Preflop raiser bet $15, then another player called. I just called (probably should've raised but I wasn't too confident with just a pair of 8's with a 9 kicker). Next card was a 9d, giving me 2 pair but putting a possible flush on the board. First player went all-in for his last $45, next guy called, and I called. Last card was a Q of clubs, opponent went all-in for his last $28 but didn't look happy about it. I called and my 2-pair was good (one opponent had AQ with the A of diamonds and other had KQ with the Queen of diamonds, so they were drawing for the flush.) I won a nice pot even though I played the hand pretty awful.

Only other notable hand was when I got AA and raised a few limpers to $15, got re-raised to $40. He had about $150 behind so I just went all-in, and got called by AK. My Aces held up. Overall I won about $200 in the cash games and lost $100 on the tournament.

I thought the room had a nice friendly vibe to it. Seems to cater to the lower-limit players so it felt more laid-back than the Borgata. The floorpeople and dealers were all very nice and helpful. Many of the dealers looked barely old enough to gamble themselves, but they were good and very nice. None of the surly dealers I've occasionally encountered elsewhere. Many of the female dealers were also quite easy on the eyes, a nice bonus.

Overall I enjoyed it and plan to go back soon with my wife and hopefully take advantage of the poker rate. Here's a couple of pics I took of the room (apologies for my crappy cellphone camera):

Hi All, been away for a while...took a weekend off to do the FTOPS on Full Tilt...but that is another story....

Was at the boat for an extended stay 8/8 - 8/12. And get this on Sunday Night (8/10) we got the following game going for about 3 hours....

Around 8pm got a 2/5 going, with a short table (5 players), rather than just continue to push the chips around, we all agreed to play a 2/5 NLHE & a 2/5 PLO mixed game (10 hands of each then switch).

It was a good deal of fun and actually had a couple of others join the game...

Had 6-7 people for about 2 hours total....then game broke up as people had to go home, got tired, etc.....

But we did get it going...and the first few hands of the PLO were nuts with multiple draws on the board and wild betting!!!!!!
