So to the average poker player, it now costs $5 to park at Showboat.
Are they counting TR points you (may) earn playing cash games?

Essentially if you play 5+ hours of 1/2NL or 3+ hours of 2/5NL, parking should be free. Is this correct to assume? Also, since I play a fair amount of hours at Showboat/Harrah's, I've noticed that 10 hours of play in a month will get you 2 free rooms at any Harrah's property (as long as the rooms are available) Sun-Thurs. I've played only a fair amount of hours at Harrah's/Showboat over the past 6 or 7 months and haven't missed a room offer in the longest time. That's pretty solid considering most of my play is at Borgata.

sweet, I want to check it out!

I went to the new room yesterday. Very nice and spacious. If the casino makes an effort to spread some games and try to attract new players, it could really take off. I had a relatively uneventful session except for one series of events. I'm sitting in seat one, dutifully lined up dead center on the cup holder. A new lady takes the seat to my left. 2 players next to her start complaining that they are crowded because the new player left over a foot of space between her and myself. The new player just snaps "I'm where I'm supposed to be." The dealer gets involved by telling me to move to my left. I say "What? I'm centered on the cup holder." The dealer says that their system is to have players line up between the cup holders. Strange, but it meant the new players was right.

The other two players get mad at her, and at the 2 new beer-swilling, raising stations that joined the table. The nits say they're jerks (they weren't, just guys having fun). So 3 nits leave the table because they don't like the new crowd. A 4th uber-nit table captain says to one of the drinkers "3 players just left the table because of you guys." The drinker responds, "Oh yeah? Why don't you make it four?" Hilarious. The nit storms off in a huff.

So the seats get filled, and the table loosens up and starts gambling. It was good for me because I started getting hit by the deck and getting paid. I flop quads with 67o and get paid off down to the river. The bad beat was up to $76K which everyone was talking about. The only negative was that the auto-shufflers jammed a lot, so many of the hands got shuffled the old-fashioned way. Overall, thumbs up for the room.

I checked out the new Showboat poker room on Sunday night and it looks nice. They say there are 5 more tables than upstairs and it is closer to the boardwalk and the walk to the Taj so everything is an improvement, except there will be more noise coming from the casino floor because it is closer. Has anyone played any tourneys there yet and can they say if there is a better tournout yet? I guess it is too early to tell. But I like their new location better than upstairs which is kind of off the beaten path and hidden. It will be easier to smoke too provided that the casino is not made totally non-smoking as predicted.

There were 110 players Saturday night in the tournament.

She was right, the Showboat has that stupid rail where the cup holder's are placed by each players right arm. Why they designed them that way is anybody's guess. The only thing worse than that is when the TROP used to cram 9 Holdem players on a Stud table with 8 cups years ago.

That just says you've earned enough to pay for parking if you want. That doesn't make parking free. In the past, you could play 5+ hours, and you had money for a sandwich because parking was free. Bottom line...it now costs you 5 bucks more than it used to if you plan on parking there. I even used to park there and walk over to the Taj. So now it costs me $5 more to play at the Taj as well.

SB was my first real cardroom I ever played in (just turned 22 last week), yet after 2 visits there, all I've ever been to is the Borgata (my only poker friend refuses to go anywhere else). Anyway, my parents are sure to take a day trip up to the SB this summer, and I think i'll tag along. I really like how its not crazy like the Borg, and I really hate the springy tables at the Borg and the cards (i dunno, i just hate them). Oh yea, their chips are impossible to shuffle... anyway, xxrod17xx, I assume your a dealer? What's your name? If I happen to make it up, it should be in mid June sometime, probably on a Saturday. If you work then I'll stop by and play some hands.

Showboat has alligned their parking policy with the policy at Bally's and Caesars. At Showboat, for Gold card holders, you pay $5 upon entry to the garage. Take your parking receipt inside with you. Once you earn 25 reward credits at Showboat, go to a self-service kiosk, print out a "free parking voucher", and take that voucher with your parking receipt to the cashier. They will then give you $5.

For me, that's the deciding factor if I'll play there. Will they make a real effort to spread any games other than 1/2 NL, 2/5 NL, and 2/4, 3/6 HE ?

I spoke to a Showboat floorperson recently who said they're going to try and spread 5/10 HE, and Omaha H/L (didn't know the limit, but said there's been interest). We'll see...

What a pain in the arse.

Edit: Do Vegas casinos charge for parking?

Is there chip racks down by the cashier or do you need to go to the poker room first, pick up a rack, and then walk back down to the main casino floor cashier?

Is there really any interest in spreading something other than 1/2 NL, 2/5 NL, and 2/4, 3/6 HE? Everyone always says "I'd play Omaha" but when it comes to the list of interest, there's only 4 names. If there ever is a decent sized list nobody ever shows up when they try and call the game.

For your first buy in you have to go buy chips at the cage (or have chips with you). You can go to the "poker cage" and get your buy in and they will give you "racked up chips"...for a 1/2 game for instance you could go buy $300 in reds and they will give you 3 stacks of reds "in a rack".

You do not have to go to the main cage on the casino floor. If you are standing at the Entrance to the poker room by the podium, turn towards the casino floor....you will see directly infront of you the "Spirit Bar", over to the right of the bar you will see the men's and women's rooms and right their is the "cage" that handles the poker room (tournament buy-in's, chips for cash games, etc.....), maybe 35-50 feet from the podium....

I dont understand why parking is that big of a deal? Its only 5 bucks your playing games that are well worth the cover. I know it sucks when you paid 5 bucks comparing to when you didnt but as you realized everything now a days is getting expensive.
05-01-2008 , 11:32 AM
still havent seen it... how can it be a bigger room then caesers? I saw the floor right before they moved downstairs..
Anyway the new location should be much better for walkup traffice since some didnt even know SB had a poker room

cant seem to stop going to harrahs for the jackpot.....im a phish
05-01-2008 , 11:36 AM
How big do you think Caesar's room is? It only has like 23 tables.
05-01-2008 , 11:37 AM
How big is harrah's jackpot...showboat was up to $85,000 last weekend.
