I haven't heard anything about them closing for a bit, so I imagine they'll just jump right into the new games and limits at midnight.

I actually called after work today because I was wondering about this. I was told that they are going to have the normal games, and at midnight will open different games that they weren't able to run before. At Midnight the new laws will take effect for the games that are already running. For example if you are playing a 5/10 prior to midnight after midnight you will be able to buy in for what ever you want up to the max. New player will have to meet the min, and the new laws will take effect. If you had a stack on the table you get to keep it there.

Looking forward to tonight, should be interesting.

I have been scouting places to stay around there for when I decide to make a trip down. I found a Best Western that is 2 miles from Gulfstream. for $49/night. you might check that out. alot cheaper than $150 or whatever HR is.

I just got to The Rock and it's packed right now. Lists are getting long and all of the downstairs tables are full. No games going upstairs, however. Channel 10 news is here.

Just about every game has a list 10-20 names long.

I read it a long time ago and it stuck with me. Talking about a city, they said half the city has it the other does not. I thought it was good.

Just got back from a short session.

I got there around 10:30 and got my name on 2/5nl, 5/10nl, 1/2 plo, 2/5,plo, 5/10plo, 10/20 limit and 20/40 limit. They starting calling the higher limit games at about 11:15 and had people in the seats before midnight came. The big game at the time was 10/25 and a 10/20plo (not positive on the plo, i heard them call the players). I got seated at 2/5 first. It was mostly regulars so I left when called and got on a brand new 5/10 at about 12:30. Just kinda played until it started to die.

I need to give the HR credit, they handled tonight pretty well. It was very packed around midnight but they got people to their seats and were offering games to a lot of different needs. I had one issue at the first 2/5 I sat down at where the dealer was letting people by in from her bank and then getting fills. A few of us talked to the floor and they agreed that the initial buy ins should be from the house cage. When they opened the 5/10 the initial buy ins were forced to come from the cage. Not sure if our convo with the floor had any effect, I have a feeling its a dealer thing.

As far as the bigger games go the 10/20 and 10/25nl were both going and had huge lists. There was a 20/40 limit game that looked super soft. There was a 10/25 must move at first, not sure how long it lasted. I saw a few people trying to get a 40/80limit and 25/50nl but I'm not sure if they ever went, just heard the names called. There was also a decent list for 20/40 stud, and 75/150limit that didn't get started.

All in all, decent start. There were very little action from rec players because of the weird time. I only heard them call one 1/3nl game and within a half hour they were calling open seats. Tonight seemed like a feeler for most people at the new limits, and it was mostly regulars. I'm sure Friday and Saturday will be when the real madness will start.

I too have to give the Hard Rock credit for handling the changeover well. The room was packed all night but things seemed to go relatively smoothly-- definitely better than I expected.

One thing I noticed though was that aside from a 10/20 PLO table that ran all night, the nosebleed games weren't what I thought they'd be. I think at most there were three 10/20NL games running and I think there was a 10/25NL running for a short while but that's it. No briefcases of money and no athletes, celebrities or poker pro's buying in for $50K+ like I heard about them doing a couple of years ago when the Hard Rock allowed uncapped poker for a few days.

I began playing $5/10NL at about 10pm last night and when the clock struck midnight, nobody at my table added chips to their stack. Almost every had around $500 in front of them already with the exception of 2 $100 regs who had $200. It was interested to watch the old $5/10 regs get busted and then be told that if they want to continue playing, they'd have to buy-in for a minimum of $500. Once those guys went busto and were replaced with new money, the stack sizes grew considerably and by the time I left, I'd say the average stack size was about $1500-- not great but it's a start considering what we just came from.

I agree with the smooth changeover at HR hollywood, considering the amount of people lined up @ 11pm to get on the list of interests. I was playing the 1/2 and then later jumped to a 1/3 with my stack I accumulated at 1/2 which was great. Plus we all won the bonus! A free hat! lol.... I will be running over there again and will update what kind of games they are running. Would be nice to play a little 1/2 plo

I heard them start a 2/5 PLO table tonight but I don't know how long it ended up lasting.

Just a little rundown of what I noticed tonight:

- The high-stakes games were good, but not all that. At its peak, there were five $5/10NL games going, two $10/20NL, one $10/25NL, and a $2/5PLO. By midnight, I think there were just four $5/10NL, one $10/20NL and one $10/25 (not sure about the PLO). There were times when my $5/10 game felt like it was dying thanks to nitty play and when I walked around to scout the other tables, other players complained that their tables sucked as well. That said, they're still great tables compared to the $5/10's you'd find out west but the room didn't have that "buzz" I expected tonight-- I didn't notice a stack greater than $10K, even at the $10/25 game, and there was never a $25/50NL.

- The Hard Rock really needs to allow high-limit players to cash out upstairs somehow. As it is right now, neither the dealer nor the brush pushing the chip cart is allowed to color-you-up so you have to rack up your whole stack and then walk down stairs with it like you're on a prom date, directly into the line of people waiting at the brush stand, 5-feet away from the front door. Then as you walk up to the cage, you stand in line like a putz for 5 minutes as the cashier fumbles with the money of the person in front of you, meanwhile all of the micro-stakes players seated directly next to the cage mean-mug you for having more chips than them.

I only cashed out for $4K+change but it was very disconcerting to hear the cashier say "are you going to your car? do you want a security escort? they'll do it." I mean, it's a nice gesture and all but I shouldn't need a security escort for $4K. If the Hard Rock wants to be serious about hosting the biggest games in town, they're going to have to address this issue. People who cash out for $5K+ don't want everybody and their mom to watch them put those bills in their pockets and then walk out the front door-- which you HAVE to do because even if you have a safe-deposit box, you have to carry the cash/chips yourself outside of the poker room and through the casino to the cashier inside.

- As I expected, $2/5 seems to be a very popular and juicy game. The only problem I've noticed when checking out those tables is that a lot of people seem to be buying-in for the $200 minimum. What's the point of raising the limits if half of the table is going to have $200 in front of them while you're playing with $1000? It just seems like it would be frustrating.

Other than that, the room seems to be operating smoothly.
