I'm at the Sands now: approx. 1 hour wait for all games, maybe a little less for 3/6 per the room manager.
70+ names on 1/2 list 48 on the 2/5 list

Lottery Larry which of the Pa. casinos is nearest you and have you played there yet? Going to be in Philadelphia soon and was wondering what my options are. Thank you.

How do you go thru 70 names in an hour? I assume all 12 tables were full?

Not yet, because they just opened yesterday. From Philly, the closest will be Harrah's Chester, most likely. Other options for you may be Delaware Park, in DE; The Sands in Bethlehem, PA... and later on this year, PARX at the Philly racetracks (north, off of the turnpike) and supposedly the downtown casino that will be opening up this fall.

Check around in B&M for the various threads to get the many reviews, trip reports and other details.

Plus, there are a lot of home games, and some underground card rooms supposedly, in various parts of the city (it will be interesting to see what happens to them, with the new casino rooms opening.... and whether the police will crack down on them more heavily, now).

Answer: you don't

I arrived Monday at about 3:45 PM. Put my name on the 1-2 and 2-5 NL lists. Was about #33 on the 1-2 list and #10 on the 2-5 list. About 45 minutes later I was called for the 2-5 game and another 30 minutes later my name was called for 1-2.

And it seemed that the lists were moving faster late afternoon than in the early evening, which makes sense since people were leaving to get home for dinner. The lists moved pretty slow once people settled in after dinner.

People coming into my 2-5 game around 9:00 PM were saying they waited two hours or more. So, if you are going to arrive after dinner or work you should plan a long wait.

As I mentioned, "per the room manager." I waited closer to 90 minutes to get a seat in one of the worst 3-6 limit games I've ever witnessed. Don't want to start bitching about limit, and luckily my name was called soon after for a 1/2 seat, but this casino has some major issues:

1. DEALERS
2. DEALERS
3. DEALERS

Whichever outside company, school, etc. responsible for training these people should be discredited immediately. Being from LA, (and having attended "casino college") I can tell you that at best, maybe 2 of the current Sands dealer staff would pass an audition for a local card room back in California.

Be prepared to constantly move the button, cut chips, re-assign the blinds, read the board, and debate rules like the calling of "string bets."

The result of this nightmarish dealing? SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW games.

During some of the downs, I bet we were lucky to get 20 hands in an hour.

I hope I don't sound like a big grouch, but this piss-poor dealing was inducing some tilt in my game last night! It's painful to watch, so be prepared.

And do not, I REPEAT: do not wait for the chiprunners- go to the cashier or pits and get $25 or $100 chips for your rebuys. If you go broke, you must sit out while they go to the cage- this is so bad for business! I've seen several well-tilted patrons walk away from the table because they couldn't get back in the action right away.

I'm heading over there in an hour, you want me to put you on the list?

I wanted to offer that suggestion to other 2+2ers goin to the sands. I will be there every day over the next 2 weeks usually after 4pm, sometimes later.

To combat againsty these unbearably long lines, how about sending pms or setting op another thread where we put each other's names on the board if we're an hour away from arriving at the casino?

Anyone? Bueller?

Plz post, I'm an Airy regular but may switch to Sands it's only 15 min extra drive for me if Airy dosen't start caring about their comp system and actually giving them to their poker players.

Think Sands will start taking phone calls to get on the waiting lists for locals like Airy does?

This is accurate but, at least for me, pretty much what I expected. There are a few dealers with experience and they were generally fine. Then there are some who need to improve a lot. One dealer got in 7 hands during his 30 minute down. Another asked a player not to change seats because it was too confusing for her. All but a handful of the dealers had problems with how/when to move the button.

IMO there is another more pressing issue to deal with - the noise from the casino floor. It is not terribly loud but loud enough to create problems. Many times verbal declarations were not heard or understood by the dealer and/or other players. This led to a high number of calls for floor decisions and created enormous opportunities for angle-shooting. I saw an unusually high rate of experienced players, when faced with a bet, SOFTLY announce "raise" and then put in the chips equal to make a call while they thought about how much to raise. Invariably other players behind would think there had been a call and would then call/raise/fold out of turn. This happened at least once every 30 minutes. Watch out for yourselves as angle shooters are sure to catch on quickly to this.

This thread will probably do fine for that. I think it's best if we just convince the floor to accept phone calls for the waiting list

Daveygravey - overall I like your room and the whole casino and figure to go back fairly often. But it's not true that there's no smoking next to the poker area. In fact lots of people were smoking along the rail and the smoke in the room built up over the course of the night. I'm imagining it could get heavy on Friday and Saturday nights.

I was there today....

I arrived at about 11 and was immediately seated at an open 2-5 game. The place is COLD. I know most casinos are cold but this was FREEZING. I was wearing shorts and highly recommend long pants. The tables are way too close together. I was in the 3 and some dickhead from the other table kept backing his seat into me and the waitresses insist upon walking through those narrow gaps as well. It is annoying when you are in the middle of a hand and they beg you to move in.

The game was great. Everyone was friendly. All the PA peeps seemed to know each other from playing in other places. I saw a few Borgata regs as well. The game was very loose and on par with a Borgata 2-5. The dealers ranged from aight to horrible. There was one guy that was so slow it was sickening. I am sure this will improve in time.

By the time I left at 4:30 there were a ton of players hanging around and waiting. I didnt check out the lists but they had to be long. All in all a good time and I will definitely return. If you guys have any questions, let me know.

This is def true. There were people smoking right at the rail. If you are one of those people who cant take smoke, you wont be comfortable here.

If anyone can post wait list numbers anytime from now to 9pm would be greatly appreciated. Deciding if I should check out Sands tonight or not depending how long the waits are.

2/5 had only 1 table and wait list was 40-50 deep. 1/2 list goes thru in about an hour usually, 9 tables of it and more than half dont show when called.

Not sure how they are going to run a tourney when all 12 tables have been running with lists 50+ deep. Would think they'd have to expand first?
