Do any of our fellow Minnesotans know definitively when poker will start at the new Running Aces Card Club in MN?
I know the horse races start Friday April 11th but will the poker start then too? I read something about how they had to have 50 race days finished before the card room could legally open but they were going to petition the Legislature to change this and allow the poker games to start right away when they open on April 11th.
Anyone hear anything or have reliable info on this?
Thanks

I'm definitely looking forward to playing at the new club.

No, I have looked at the web site but haven't found a date.

Ha! weird...

I was just thinking about starting this same thread myself, not 20 minutes ago...
It sounds like I know as much as you know.

They're being rather quiet about it so far. Would be nice to get poker going in April, rather than June or July.

It's a 15 minute drive vs. the 55 minute drive to Canterbury for us.

On the gas savings alone, we're already +EV!!

I can't wait either. The new club will be great for players' options and competitiveness.

RA has already scheduled the HPT for November.

I've given my CP hats to Goodwill and cut up my 'late night' shirts for garage rags.

Yeah I don't know why the opening date for poker is still such a mystery.
Racing opens Friday April 11th but I've heard poker will open right away, a month later, June 1st, Middle of June.
I don't know what to believe.
It will definitely be nice to have another option and even closer for us St. Paul and east side of town guys.

I heard from a person who claimed to be hired as a dealer...that they need to run 50 RACES, not 50 race DAYS. Don't know anything about horse racing, but is seems plausible to get in 5-10 races a day. So the gap between opening and poker might not be all that long.

What is Columbus? Isn't this in Forrest Lake?

Harness racing usually is 10-12 races a day.

This article from November says that it's 90 days after racing starts before the cardroom can be open.

It's officially in Columbus Township just south of Forest Lake.
50 Races would go quick, like a week after opening for poker if that is true.
Please all let us know if you can confirm this or any other reliable info.
Thanks

From what I can judge is not much less of a drive than to CP and I live in St. Paul by the fairgrounds. But I definitely wouldn't mind a change of pace and look forward to RA opening the card room.

EDIT: looks to be about 10 miles shorter distance each way and its much more direct up 35w so eagerly awaiting new card room to open.

Thanks for posting that Kevmath...I read that article back in December when I was researching when they were going to open.

This is such a great thing.

Nice 15 minute drive from Minneapolis instead of 45 to Cantebury or hour and 10 for Hinckley.

I'm glad CP is losing their monopoly on non-indian poker rooms, but does anyone really care about harness racing in the midwest?

Will they have regular thoroughbred simulcasts?

(I'd rather see the jockeys race without horses than harness racing...)

From what I hear, it's HUGE business in the midwest.

It will bring in people from all over.

I hate limit poker with a passion, and online about just as much so I will be a regular there,,,,be ready to take my monies...

Quote from the earlier posted article:

"Without legislative action, the Columbus track can’t take wagers on thoroughbred racing.

The ownership group will ask the legislature early next year for permission to allow such wagering. The bill would also enable Canterbury Park in Shakopee to conduct pari-mutuel betting on harness racing from across the country."

Talking to a dealer at Canterbury this week, he said July would be when the card room would open at Running Aces. The impression that I got from him was that some of the Canterbury employees are defecting there Mainly people looking to move up in the ranks I think.

I can't wait for Running Aces to open it's been so long in the making.

Wow, you learn something new everyday. Good for the harness players. It's just too slow for me. And it just seems like if your harness gets out front first you win and if not your screwed...

Anecdote fromthe past. My dad's cousin used to own harness carts out east. One of his horses was named Harass. Sometimes he'd pull the horse out at the last minute just so he could hear the announcer say "Scratch Harass"

True story.

Is it a possibility that they will have spread limit like the Indian Casinos in MN do?

It would be nice to know what games they will have and when they will start wouldn't it?
You think they would have a press release or have it on their website or something.
Please keep any and all info coming.

PS - I look forward to enjoying a few harness races during poker breaks.

The track has to be open for 50 racing days before the card club can open unless there is legislative intervention. I think they are planning that the first racing season will be 50 race days long

From what they have been doing so far to notify their "anxiously awaiting new players" as to when operations may start up, it might be smart to lower expectations on this new club.

Doesnt sound like they will be any more player friendly than Canterbury (I highly recommend Canterbury for poker though) and Harness Racing is still the lowly stepchild to Thoroughbreds. When I stayed in downtown Minneapolis I was pretty sure it was 30 minutes drive, but w/e. I just dont get all this enthusiasm for this new club when Canterbury is one of the best in the country. I try and make a visit come Fall Classic time all the way from Tucson.

I live in Minneapolis and it isn't close to 30 minutes.

The best part of a new card room for me is the drive.

I refuse to drive 45-50 minutes to play poker.
