I was very disappointed with my visit to this venue. For a monopoly (almost) in a major city, on a busy weekend (Fri + Sat night) with 20+ NLHE tables running, I was surprised to discover the biggest buy to any of them was $500. I am not a high stakes player myself, preferring deep 2/5 and any 5/10 as a game of choice. But even I was incredibly frustrated to find the biggest NLHE game here plays as deep as a 1/2 at any other decent poker venue.

Are these restrictions a measure to prevent players going broke and keep games running longer?

Generally, the dealers and majority of the floor all seemed very nice, but my enquiries into the cap rules were met with antagonism; so I am posting them here instead.

tl;dr - I will not be going back in a hurry.

This has been an ongoing issue at rivers. They refuse to offer any type of non cap nl games. There are more people that prefer the 100 bb games than people that ask for anything different. I've asked to open one of 20 games with no cap and was told no. So good luck they have ruined poker in Pittsburgh. It was better before the casinos were built

Isn't the 5/10 (when it goes) uncapped? And you can buy in up to the biggest stack at 2/5?

Not unreasonable but an incorrect assumption all the same for the 2/5 stack matching. It's a 500 buy in even if someone has 10k. I'm not sure how often they get 5/10, but when I was there they preferred to open another 1/3 (to add to the 12 games already running) than even try to open a 5/10 game with a list of at least 12 people.

It seems like every time I've played the 5/10 they've had a different buy in structure. Lately it's been 1000-3000, but it's doubtful anyone would say anything if you wanted to buy in for more.

The 2/5 has been 200-500 since February.

Almost positive, but I believe 5/10 was uncapped when I last played over the summer. Has something changed?

I've always thought the Rivers had a big potential market and a prime location but for some reason, (management?) never seemed to be able to put it all together for a great room.

Anyone have any additional information on this? Anyone talk to someone who works in the room about this?

As far as I know they're filming poker night in America again. They did it last year during the winter series, but didn't have the big names like this year.

Yeah. The poker night in america tv cash game was filmed last year at rivers. It had Joe cada, darvin moon and Raymer in it. Those guys also played in some of the tournies. I'm sure it's same thing as last year just with some bigger names slated to attend

Confirmed talk to floor the other day about it. Guys are going to play in a private game in the banquet room that would be open to anyone willing to throw down 10k (25/50) + they are recommended to play the main event, but it's not necessarily required.

He said expect the tourny guys to play the main, the cash guys in the 25/50 and some to split time.

Can someone toss tomorrow's main turnout in here? I'm debating driving down Saturday and probably would if tomorrow has a decent number.

Last year it was 170 players I believe with a 70k first place. I'd guess similar if not more this year with some bigger name pros around.

70k of the 170k to first? Pretty top heavy structure

It was 296 (http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/event.php?a=r&n=125329) but it was a very different weekend, hence why I am curious.
