Re: Rivers Casino (Pittsburgh, PA)

Went to Rivers last night to see what kind of action the place had on a Saturday with Cleveland open.
Place was not busy at all.

Room was half full at prime time hours, and this counted about 7 tournament tables.
There was nothing higher than 1-3 going. The stacks were not big at any table other than the 1-3PLO.

I think that is too be expected. Of course people are going to try a new room out. I was in cleveland last weekend but I will not be returning. Plus it was a nice night out and a holiday weekend. I do not think we will see the impact cleveland has had until July. Once the novelty wears off the locals won't be driving up there and the people who live in between will make their decision where they want to play.

I was there from 1-7PM last night. I was somewhat surprised there wasn't even a list for 2/5 until ~5p. I know for the past year or so that game doesn't go much outside of Fri/Sat night. I do know a few of the 2/5 players were playing in the $500 deepstack tourny.

According to Bravo there were 18 cash game tables going ~10p and 16 going ~12:30a. Considering there are usually ~19-20 on a Saturday night there wasn't that much of a drop off. I asked a dealer Friday night what kind of affect Cleveland has had and he said it's been minimal. However they are expecting more of a dropoff over the next 2 months or so because of the WSOP, people vacationing, and the weather being nice. It happened last year as well.

Baduu, I'm not exactly sure what the point of some of your posts are. It's almost as if now that Cleveland is opened you want poker in Pittsburgh to collapse. That wouldn't be good for anybody, including the Cleveland poker players. Competition can only help the players by keeping rake lower, better player comps, and better dealer/poker room quality. It's also good to have as many people as possible with access to a poker room. The more poker players there are nationwide/worldwide the stronger the poker economy will be. I am very happy the Cleveland Horseshoe is off to a strong start. I would think you would hope for Pittsburgh poker to stay strong rather than revel in a downfall that so far isn't happening.

It may help Rivers comps and rake situation but as far as the Horseshoe is concerned there is no competition. Rake is 6+1 and probably will not being going down, factor in .25 comps as well. But for me it is still better than driving all the way to Pittsburgh or Detroit. I agree with you though, it would be nice if all rooms flourished and another boom came around with legal online poker in the next few years.

And you are the type of patron who I'm sure the Rivers expected to lose when the Horseshoe opened. The player who lives close to Cleveland and doesn't want to make the 2 hour drive to play 1/3 in Pittsburgh. Totally understandable. However this mass exodus of Pittsburgh area players who now make their poker homes in Cleveland that Baduu is implying simply isn't happening.

Re: Rivers Casino (Pittsburgh, PA)

The greatest striker in Arsenal history is right. Action at Rivers is indeed falling off, but its in no way related to Cleveland. The exception might be the PLO game on Fri/Sat night, but I highly doubt this. Before Horseshoe opened there were other places to play up there. Few traveled all the way to Rivers, not even a blimp on the radar.

Any other comparison of the two casinos, besides the PLO and larger holdem games (always present in the beginning) goes in Rivers favor. We talked about this in another thread. Rivers is still king in the western tri-state area. Time will prove this.
