Just played at Rivers for the first time. I have very little live poker experience.

I played 1-3 NL for about 15 hours. The players are fishier than at the 25NL tables on Bovada for sure. And you can spot a fish as soon as they start playing hands. I also played against some LAGs who were not skilled enough to back up their aggression.

Order a Duquesne sandwich. It's really good.

Rivers has introduced new chips with a "First Five" decal and others with a "Year of the Ram" decal that are slightly thicker than their ordinary "Rivers Casino"chips.

If you sort your chips by decal and stack 20 "First Fives" and 20 "Rivers" chips (redbirds at least) you will find the First Five stack is almost a full chip taller.

Count your stacks down - all of them - every time.
Chips wear away over time and I guess some of the chips at the Rivers has been in circulation long enough that if you get a bunch of the older ones you can fit 21 into a slot in the rack. I remember being able to jam 22 of the $10 chips at Bellagio into a slot a few years back. It's always a good idea to count down your stacks.

It really is a good idea to count. I always count before cashing out, but I mostly just eyeball the rack when buying. But on a recent Rivers visit, I was shorted one red at the cage. I did go back and mention it, but I was out of luck.

It's probably not going to change my behavior unless it happens again.

How soft is the field here? I've played/cashed in the weekly deep stack but never played one of their series. I assume they get some other/stronger players for the series?

How many runners are normal for this event? I can find some past info that shows like 80-90 runners, which seems really light. Is that normal or did I just find an exception?

Thanks!
Curious as well, how many can we expect for the main event?

Sorry, didn't see this sooner. Best guess based on previous years would be 200 to 250 runners. Anyone there tonite see how many showed for day 1a?

From what I understand, while from da Burg, Chad Power lives in a house with a bunch of other poker players, near Maryland Live.

Much as I love going to Rivers, if you're going pro, the reality is, Maryland is where the money is these days on the East Coast.

the last 1100 which included Phil Hellmuth et all, and had Poker Night in America attached to it (last year) was 50k chips and 1 hour levels...it was a great structure, Phil and many other pros commented about how much play there was..it had around 230 entries

I'm thinking about coming to Rivers for the PPO Fall Series in Nov. Are there any hotel codes? Which hotels have shuttles or are walking distance to casino?

I have had great success using priceline. Each time I have used the express deals for a 3 1/2 star hotel in the downtown area and have gotten the Wyndham Grand for between 60 and 70 dollars a night.

There is a Rivers casino app that has the participating hotels.

I played and Hellmuth was at my table for about 3 hours.

FYI, starting chips were 30k, not 50k. It is the same this year.

nope, starting stack in that one was 50k..hellmuth even stated how much play there was and referred to the 50k specifically...plus some grumbling in the room lately about how they knocked it down to 30k
