There's a pretty epic thread on an English language Asia poker forum talking about some guy getting people to play him heads up at his apartment and using marked cards/UV contact lenses.

Then no talk about active games running. Looks like they do tourneys on some island close by.

Just played tonight. 2 tables of 5-10 until about 2am then consolidate to one. Definitely not an action game, pretty straight forward. Don't think I saw one pot over $1,000. Very low risk, low reward game. From my small sample size I prefer the Cambodian 1-2 game.

Played about a month ago. Lowest stake is now 10-20 and had 4 tables going on a Friday night. Left at 5am and still 2 tables going.
Profitable game imho

Hi all, just joined these forums so thought I should add something vaguely useful before I start other threads asking others for help/views with my poker hands.

So I first started playing poker last September, this was when I visted Singapore for a few weeks. I went down to Sentosa and sat down on a 5/10 SGD table, brough in for 1000 singapore dollers (buy in is 300-1500). I was a total fish and didn't even know what a small blind, big blind was!

I played maybe 4-5 nights during that stay and go back to singapore once every thwo months and play 3-4 nights each time. My observations are

1. Alot of Singaporean regs there, like I say I go for a few nights once every two months for the last 9 months and I see the same guys there again and again.
2. Online poker has been discussed sometimes and from what Ive heard the local regs do not play online. Online poker is illegal in Singapore and its the most law abiding country Ive ever been to. Not having the ability to play online in my view serverly puts Singaporean regs at Sentosa at a servere disadvantage to visiting poker players who can play 1000's of hands online each week. For sure you can be sitting round a table in sentosa and know that if a local reg started three years ago and you did to, but you play online as well as live games you would have played 10x-100x more hands then theve played.
3. This relates to the previous point. I have found most (but not all) regs to be quite nitty. The problem is that the lowest game was 5/10 Singaporean dollars, which they have now closed down, the lowest game is now 10/20 Singaporean dollars. Now singaporean pople are quite wealthy for the most part, but even so 10/20 is quite high, the pots regularly get to 500 dollars and quite often get to 1000-1500 dollar range. So In my view from what ive seen this seems to make people play quite nitty, people just dont want to see the turn and river unless they really have a hand because the pots often gets quite large.
4. There a HUGE ammount of limping going on, all the regs are just limping all the time, its not uncommon for the whole table to limp in and see the flop.
5. there are some regs who play loose agressive but I would say this is only 10% of the regs.
6. The dealers and floor managers in my view (which is somewhat limited) are pretty good and keep the game going along at a decent pace.
7. Alot of the the conversations are in Chinese even though singaporeans speak fluent English. Its kinda half and half, they will speak some English then start speaking Chinese. Last time I was there some french guys started speaking french and the floor manager cam over and said they must speak English whilst at the table.
8. No phones allowed, they are very strict in this and will come over if you just glance at your phone to check the time - they have a clock in the casino clearly visible from the poker tables. Cant leave your phone on the table next to you either, it must be in your pocket or bag. Generally Sentosa does not allow phones in the casino but the poker room does seem a bit more relaxed and does not mind if you stand up and walk 5 meters away from the table to check you messages/emails on your phone or answer a call.
9. Table wait is not bad, 20% of the time I can sit down straight away, 30% of the time I wait 20 minutes, 40% of the time I wait 20-45 minutes and 10% of the time its over 50 minutes wait. But it does depend on what time you get there. I find if you go at 9-10pm you can sit down very quickly as people start to go home and tables start merging. But if you get there at 11pm, then the night players are the only ones left and its often down to just two tables and the wait list may get to 5-9 players and you may have to wait an hour or more.
10. They have 6 tables in use, and Ive seen all 6 in action at the same time, usually when I get there at 9pm there are three tables going and after an hour or so this merges to 2 tables and then down to one table at about 2am.
11. The local Singaporeans who play are very well mannered and do not drink any alcohol, just Chinese tea, and they are pretty friendly as well but if your a tourist you will have to start the conversation as they will not, but once you do they are pretty chatty.
12. Many times i have been the only non-asian in there but quite often there is an expat or tourist also at the table, especially around school holidays in Europe/Australia when families include a few days stay in Sentosa on there vacation and the dad escapes during the evening to play some poker.
13. Not mush stealing of the blinds going on, and also not mush respect for people who do try and steal the blinds. I was there when this American guy kept on attempting to steal the blinds and he was always called.
14. The lowest game is now 10/20 dollars which I think has scared some people away. I get the feeling Sentosa Casino does not like pople playing poker and they make less money from it, theres often more staff members in the poker area than there are players. And I think they thought they could increase the lowest game to get abigger pots and more rake. Personally I would have done the opposite and kept the 5/10 game and even started a 1/2 game to get more local Singaporeans playing poker, make it mre accessible for beginners to get started who will most likely climb up the stakes in due course.

So thats it. any questions about Sentosa then ask, me, Im no expert but was there just a few weeks ago and will be there again in about 4 weeks time.

Im a bit of a noob, so Im guessing your asking me? Hopefully I understand your question right.

rake % is 5% - Which apparently is high but since Ive never played at any other casino it seems normal to me Anyway I think Macau is the same so I think when in Asia if someone want a descent well run casino then 5% is the best available.

The max is $50 rake, well I think it is, it was for the $5/$10 game which I played every time I went, but then it got stopped and now the lowest limits is $10/$20 game but I think its still max $50. I will look again when I go in a few weeks time.

On another note, after gaining some more poker terminology, from what Ive seen there seems to be a fair bit (maybe alot) of scared money on the table at Sentosa, i.e.

A player who is so nervous about losing that the player's decision-making is negatively impacted.

This is especially true after they raised the lowest stakes up to $10/20

Yea ,I am asking you thanks for answering

With now lowest game SGD10/SGD20 (equal US$7ish/US$14ish) the cap rake at SGD50 is too high..

People who gambling, like most degenerate Asian/Chinese,is playing without BRM so it doesn't surprise me if the play with scare money (me included )

Thanks for the information, good luck on your play there..

Games are ok, a bit nitty.. normally only two tables open, weekends sometimes 3 (10/20$).

pokerroom management is terrible, like now, the best time of the year (chinese new year) they just close it for two weeks because they're short on dealers for the other games(:

hoping for mbs to open soon!!!

Highly doubt MBS would open a poker room. Not all that profitable for a casino.

AFAIK RWS is still 10/20 only.

Still 10/20?

They completely dried the game out it's a shame...
[not that it was ever juicy, but at least there was hope for an entry point available to more crowd..]
