Also they lowered the buffet prices to $20.10 (with FKC) for Fri/Sat night which now makes it a decent value.
They did add 1/2 but they are making it an awful value. For example the 3/5 game has a rake of $5. The 1/2 game I heard is being capped at a $120 buy in and has an $8 rake.

I was looking to see if anyone had posted any of the changes introduced to the poker room on January 1. I was there on the evening of New Year's Day to find that the rake had indeed been increased from $4 to $5 on the limit games ( I sat at 3/6 and 4/8). I assume that applied across the board.

I also was surprised to find a NL 1/2 game listed. On that evening, there was only one table of 1/2 that the room opened -- it seemed that they were intent on only having the one table running. The buy in was, as described, $60 to $120 and the rake was capped at an incredible $8!

I called in at around 5 PM and asked to be added to lists for my usual limits and "no limit". I generally prefer limit games, but after I moved to the one 4/8 table that was running, I happily took the switch to the 1/2 table (not knowing about the rake size before I arrived -- I just thought all of the new handwritten game plates showed the new $5 rake.) I had been on the list for more than 4 hours when called into the 1/2 game. That said, the fishing turned out to be excellent for me that night at that table. I think I played roughly from 9:30 PM until 12:30 AM.

One word of caution -- there was no rake reduction even on the occasions the table got short handed when more than two people were up from the table. It seems like the poker room is "dipping its toe into the water" with respect to this game, but doing everything possible to discourage people from playing -- $8 rake without reduction only one table with a list that would certainly support many more.

I have been on vacation and have not had a chance to go back to see what the status of that game is 12 days into this new experiment.

Wow 8$ rake at 1/2 NL is simply amazing!

FYI for all of the limit holdem fans in the Milwaukee/Chicago area, 50-100 will now run the first and third friday of every month (and today although it is the 4th Friday) with the goal of running every friday in the near future. Kill pots are also back at poto but it remains to be seen if this game will include a 100-200 kill or not. The action has been very good in the past 50 games, and just wanted to let everyone that plays mid-high stakes in the area know that the game is running more frequently.

Some other new things at the Potawatomi:

1) Yes, as reported, they now have 1/2 NL, but put in the high rake so as to (I presume) maintain the 3/5 game. In the few times I've been there this month, this seems to be working, as the 3/5 game hasn't really changed.

2) Weekly tournaments are now offered. The worst structure anyone's ever seen -- 15 minute levels, 2500 starting stack, and blinds doubling (or more) every level change -- but now there are tournaments. If you like hyper-turbos online, here's the live version.

3) Somebody had the dumb idea to make sure that the board lists all games that anyone might want to have any interest in. So now the board scrolls through page after page of empty interest lists until it gets to the two pages of important information. Its a shame, because this board was always so much more useful (in showing who is a call-in, at what time, etc.) than similar boards at, say, the Horseshoe Hammond.

4) Kill is back (at least at 2/4 -- that's all I saw).

5) Another really dumb idea -- when you cash out, the cage must break down each stack of 20 chips in the rack. This takes FOREVER and is quite annoying.

Other than that, its the same regulars doing the same things. Welcome to Wisconsin.

This was seriously stupid. Sounds like that had just started it when I was there in December. Guess the answer is to get a chip runner to color you up before you are ready to go to the cage. They do chip run, don't they?

Is this 10% up to $8 or the first $8 in the pot?

Just went back for the first time in a while. WTF indeed at breaking down every stack at the cage. Anyways, 3/5 NL is still the same soft game I remember. They did have a 5/10 NL game with 2500 max buy in going as well yesterday.

Another change, money does not play at all, even if you're rebuying. Only chips and lamers from the chip runner will play. This may have always been a rule, but they're actually enforcing it now as they would usually just let it play if you were waiting for a chip runner. Probably something to do with an incident recently where a guy refused to pay someone after getting called and losing w/o the dealer pull in his chips before hands were shown.

I was there last weekend and they announced a new rule that should be in effect now (they said Monday of this week it started). Chips that are in your hand and moved into the inner racetrack are considered bet chips. So if you're playing NL and the bet is $25 and you go to call $25 with a handful of greens and your hand moves into the betting area, the entire handful becomes the raise amount.

Apparently too many people were angle shooting by taking stacks of chips and only plopping down 1 of them - trying to get a reaction while the chips moved from stack to betting area.

I played on Wednesday night and they have put this rule in. Right now it really depends on who the dealer is. Some pay closer attention than others and will enforce the rule. Played for about 16 hours and the worst I saw was about $25 having to be thrown in.
In my opinion, this creates for chances for angle shooting. "Oh, it's $50? Darn, I only wanted to call." Never happened that way, but I bet it will.

I can confirm this as I just called them today to ask about tomorrow's tournament. They cap it at 100 entrants and it starts at 1 PM. And yes, the blinds double every 15 minutes.
bleh.

Plo still running regularly fri/sat?

When I've gone on Friday nights, yes, there was PLO. From what I'm told about the action, though, it's pretty deep-stacked action with very few white chips in play ... which is why I'm frustrated at the lack of limit O8 in my recent visits. We had as many as 6 on the interest list today for a 3/6 O8, but got no higher by the time I left (5PM).
I'll also throw in the dealers are inconsistent with the whole "bet line" thing. Some don't care. Some will let you pull back one chip if you had one extra in your stack. But for the big deal being made of it, it doesn't stop people from fiddling with their chips behind the line as though they're setting up a bet or raise, just before they call out "check" or "call".

There was 3-4 tables of 3/5 running when I've gone on fri/sat. Occasionally a 5/10 but not usually.

The real ? is how has the addition of 1/2 been for the dynamics of the card room. They used to have a ton of 2/4,3/6,and 4/8 limit. How has all these games changed and how many 1/2 games do they get on a regular. How has this effected the 3/5 NL game.

I don't play in the 3/5 game but it appears to be running as it always has. So I would have to say no different effect. The 1/2 game continues to be an $8 rake, and only one table will run. They still have a ton of 2/4, 3/6, but the 4/8 game has been non existent the few times I've been the the last month. Also it has been slower on weekends, probably due to the weather being nicer than it has been the last 6 months.

They have a $500+$50 tournament coming in August. You get $1 tourney credit for every hour you play May 1st - July 31st. You'd need to play 42 hours per week to cover the entire buy-in - that's A LOT of hours down at potty. Haven't seen what the structure or starting chips is going to be.

went to pot for the first time last weekend, and the following are reasons why I will never return:

$8 rake at 1-2
cage taking a ridiculously long time to count the checks
insane rules about cell phone/mp3 player usage at the table
betting line (not being able to count out chips from the stack in ur hand)

I am a horseshoe regular and am accustomed to not eating the dog food served there so the food court at pot was a very pleasant surprise. It was clean and very close to the poker room. Also, I really liked how you dont have to walk by table games nor slots to get to the food or bathroom since the poker room is on the 2nd floor.
