There was a certain young Af-Am gent (YAAG) at both my tables who throws money away like he's allergic to it. He literally told me once that he gets an adrenaline high off losing. I always secure the seat to his left whenever I can.

You have to be careful what you wish for though. He cost me an enormous pot with his ridiculous ways. I was on his immediate left in a pot with 30+ BBs on the turn. I had 2 outs to the nuts, but was otherwise dead in the water. YAAG bet out, and I grimaced hard while folding b/c I knew damned well he had ****all, but that the player on my left was going to raise and take away my pot odds. Which is exactly what happened. (YAAG even folded when it got back around to him).

Of course one of my outs came on the river.

LOL. Yep, that's him.

Dude is one of the donkiest players I've ever seen at that level. For example, I 3! my KK preflop at UTG+2. Flop came Kxx, with a 3 on the river. Anyway, I caught the boat, bet it all the way, and cleaned up. Dude said, "Oh, I thought you had K3." Mind you, I've played with him for quite awhile, and I'm invariably the tightest player at the table...

I say don't mention his name. It doesn't matter; anyone who sits down at the same table will spot him in 5 mins or less.

I dislike this thread being used as a Batsignal whenever games have a bad player in them. If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't say it in a thread which is open to the public and archived by Google for all eternity.

But do PM me.

Haha, now you can check your PMs while at the table!

Win win, ldo.

I hope you didn't take offense at my suggestion. I know a lot of interesting people float through the premises. I actually wish that I heard more stories. But it's a pretty small crowd at the Oaks and it's not that hard to figure out who's talking about you once you find out you're being talked about.

Also, I was totally kidding about PMing me. Someone asked if they could text me if a game was starting or on the verge of breaking. I replied, "If I'm not here, chances are I can't be here."

To be clear, that line intentionally conveys far more degen than I actually am.

No offense taken.

And you're right. I would be fine with the mod deleting my posts.

Deleted the "identifying" posts If you feel a post was deleted unfairly, or you feel I cast too wide of a net, please let me know. I'd have edited them, but I am awfully lazy.

Please keep your identifications to known poker personalities, badge-wearing customer-facing staff for providing directions or factual information [e.g. "Call Jeff to get a list of specials" not "Dave is a bad dealer."], or how to find YOU.

Feel free to discuss an event at the table with the usual and vaguely racist "Hoodie Kid" and "Crazy Asian Gambler" descriptions we've all grown to know and love.

The new Vietnamese menu has been getting good reviews from folks. The pork chop got raves, but it wasn't on the version of the menu I saw today...

The grilled chicken also got good reviews, and I actually tried it -- it wasn't bad at all. A very generous portion (literally half a chicken), and not at all dried out. I didn't care for the dipping sauce it came with, and you can just toss the crappy steamed rice, but for the price, the chicken itself was quite good. By Oaks standards, it was practically gourmet.

I'm told they actually have a new chef who makes the food on this menu, which explains why it's only available on certain times/days.

I tried the "deep fried egg rolls" on rice vermicelli the other day. The "egg rolls" were really fried spring rolls (to be an egg roll, it should be dipped in egg batter before frying), but apart from that quibble it was everything one could ask for.

I wish that with the Vietnamese menu they served Vietnamese iced coffee, but that's asking a lot of everyone from the kitchen to the janitors.

Confirm that the chicken is a friggin half chicken. I watched three people share one.

They do have that; it's on their regular menu.

going to be moving to emeryville in a few weeks so very excited. i had a couple questions. does the o8 game run every day? i hear there's 4-8 and 6-12, would love to somehow get a 10-20. also, for spread limit, say it's 2-100. does that mean the max betting on flop capped at 100 dollars, or is the max bet 100 on flop, and then possible to raise another 100?

thanks again

The 4-8 Omaha/8 game goes pretty much daily, except on Thursdays, when a regularly scheduled 6-12 Omaha/8 game goes down. The 4-8 has a half-kill to 6-12 (killer acts in turn), and the 6-12 has a third-kill to 8-16. I'd say there's essentially no chance of a 10-20 Omaha/8 game ever going down.

The 100-max spread-limit has a maximum bet size of $100. You can bet any amount from $2 to $100. If someone bets $2, you can raise any amount from $2 to $100; if someone bets $50, you can raise as little as $50 and as much as $100. If someone bets $100, the only amount you can raise is $100.

I believe the 6/12 O8 game also goes on Fridays, at least some weeks.

My impression is those are the Fridays when the game made it through Thursday night and morning.

Maybe so, but for me the Oaks has the compelling advantage of being walking distance from my house.

Possibly, but I don't think I've ever seen an O8 game with a running time of >12 h on the monitor up front.

The player pool is almost certainly the limiting factor.
