Yeah I remember, but I think it actually makes more sense to them now since it's somewhat weaker. They can potentially bring new players in to the club and retain some business that might dabble down south. Having no 30 game on Thursdays is just bad business.

Not that I'm aware of?

The only recent change (September) was that you on longer have to post on your first hand, you can come in for free when new to the table (1/1/2, 2/3/5 at least).

Dealer said that was the case for every game except 30/60 LHE.

So I've read through a bit of this thread and felt like perhaps some of the info may be outdated. Can anyone give any information on the strength of the 30/60 game now? How often it goes...hours, player pool, and any other info would be greatly appreciated. I live in SF and play mostly at lucky Chances but only recently heard about this game. The info I received was regarding the good ol days when everyone was getting drunk. I'm sure a lot has changed since then. Thanks!!

I haven't played in a long time but I'm not sure anyone who has played will post.

I think the game runs pretty regularly but not daily on the weekdays and rarely if at all on the weekends. When it goes it will start in the late morning to midafternoon, and run until the late afternoon to late night. Sometimes the game breaks in the late afternoon or early evening and then restarts when the night crew comes in. On Tuesday and Friday, the game starts at 12pm, and you can sign up on the list a week in advance.

Unlike the 40/80 game at Bay, the game does not run for enough hours or with enough regularity to attract a lot of pros. So it's a good game in the sense that you can rise to the solid winner level as a recreational player.

The game is pretty standard MSLHE. Blinds are 2/3 so it's a little looser than your typical 2/4 blinds.

To my knowledge, yes, and it goes on the weekends too.

Depending on the crowd, 15/30 and 30/60 may run independently of each other, or the survival of one depends on the other (some people will only play 15/30 until 30/60 goes, others won't play 15/30 if 30/60 players are in it).

For 15/30 and 30/60, you can call up to 1 hour in advance to put your name on the list.

The 30 game has been running very close to around the clock on the weekdays for a couple months now. There were two games running a couple times last week. The weakest days are Thu/Sat/Sun, but typically it runs for at least a few hours even on then. There is almost always a short handed graveyard game at the least too. And the Oaks 15 is actually very weak for the most part (as is the Bay 40 recently) where there are regularly 3-4 props in the game.

I come regularly to the area for work and go to Bay 101 for 40-80 and occasionally 80-160( when stuck LOL)
if Oaks had 60-120 i would drive extra 15 min to play in it.

PSA: We're getting the Oaks to setup a one-day $1500 LHE Tourney on Saturday, December 16th. Official structure should be out soon, but expect it to be on the faster side. Definitely seems like there's a lot of local interest, so should be a fun one. If it's successful, they might try and run it 2-4 times a year.

Cross-posted this in the Mid-High LHE forum too.

In San Francisco for the week, so came across the bridge to Oaks and found it to be the best run room I've seen. Fast chip runners, excellent service, great action. How is this room not talked about more? 1 post in 8 months?

The Oaks is also holding an Omaha High-Low Split tournament on Saturday, December 9, at 11 a.m. Buy-in is $200. My guess (based on attendance at their pre-WSOP Omaha tournament) is that they will get 80-100 players and pay 12-15 places. There should be two or three juicy $6/$12 Omaha games (with a 1/3 kill) later in the day as tournament players bust out.

It's in or near a crappy neighborhood. I used to work in Emeryville, which is okay, but it's literally a brick's throw from areas that are not okay.

But it's not enough reason to not scope it out. There's at least 2 parking lot security guards and multiple inside the facility. It's on the border of Oakland and Emeryville. It's no less safe than most other areas in Oakland. Pixar is literally right next door. Yelp reviews and poker atlas make it sound like it's super sketch - it's not. If you live in the area, you'll be used to this sort of thing already.

Don't mean to jump down your throat, pig4bill, but the reputation of how bad it is in the area is significantly overblown. Your car and person will likely be totally safe.

Pig4bill tried to discourage me from going to the Oaks when I first started playing. It's dangerous! It's crappy!

Then he tried to discourage me from making the trip down to Bay 101 when I expressed interest. Not worth the trip! Games are too crowded!

Even when he was in the Bay Area, everything about it sucked. Traffic! Taxes! Guns! Housing! Economy! (Wait, what? You heard that correctly - the Bay Area economy is apparently horrible.)

---

The Oaks is located in an urban area. So you should exercise all the precautions you take when you go to Fisherman's Wharf or Jack london Square. And if you're more careful at the Oaks than you are on Market Street or Broadway, then you're probably being appropriately careful at the Oaks and inapprorpriately careless in the city.

Property crime is endemic - park your car in the lots or favor street parking towards Pixar over anywhere east of San Pablo. Don't wear fancy jewelry.

Use the player's bank if you keep a regular schedule.

The LHE tournament is scheduled for Saturday, December 16, at 1 p.m. Buy-in is $1,500, which is much larger than their usual Saturday and Sunday NLHE tournaments, so it should be interesting to see what kind of crowd it draws.

The Omaha tournament on December 9 is the other upcoming special offering, that's all.

I thought it was a sketchy area the first time I went, about 10 years ago, but it seems to have gradually improved since then.
