I ran across a dealer away from a table recently and asked him if he enjoyed working there. His response: "Johnny is a good boss. He actually got in the box when required, and that's impressive." A very nice and unforced comment.

They could also be seriously under-staffed At my casino, it is not uncommon for only one server to be working the poker room on a Saturday night at 10 pm while 20 of 20 tables are running.

Such a false statement it's scary

Johnny is the best boss to work for in casino industry, and its not even close

Benifits are as good as any in any casino in country, trust me I use them

The Hostile work environment comment is a joke, and is a strong statement if u have no backing of this

Another thing is at what point are some of you posters on here gonna start appreciating what this guy does for the player base here?

Uhhhhhhh I think you misread my post. I was speaking generally in terms of high turnover at any business - I wasn't saying that MGM has all of these problems, just that they're things to look into if turnover is high. And Johnny made a good point that I hadn't acknowledged - the high turnover could be people being dismissed rather than quitting. I'm not even sure if the food runners report to Johnny directly, or if they fall under different management.

I've already complemented Johnny on the room, on multiple occasions. It's very well run. Please, there's no need to be so hostile.

I enjoyed my trip to the DC area. Sorry I missed you Johnny the days I played. Overall I enjoyed the room. Lots of decent action for sure. I mostly played 2/5 ... Hope to see you again in the future.

Bottom line, though, is that food delivery is a service they offer, and it's not near good or satisfactory. If for whatever reason they can't offer decent food service, then don't. Otherwise, figure out how to do it well.

I recently went from asking a runner for a menu to food next to me at the table in under 20 minutes. So variance is high, but it's successful sometimes.

Had a rebuy period of around 7 hours, ended up with around 50 entrants, and 80 buys total. A recreational player won it, and the most buy-ins any pro put in was, I believe, 3.

Again, not saying you're wrong, but in my (admittedly low) tournament experience, most players - pros and recreationals alike - limit themselves to 3-5 buy-ins MAXIMUM.
Jeez with 4 flights in two days, if someone needs to fire more than 8 bullets, they have issues...

And my hostile work environment comment referred to how players can treat the food runners - esp when it takes so long. I see it almost every night I'm there, I feel awful for the crap that these kids take. Its not their fault the setup is so terrible but how often do you think they have to deal with backhanded player comments when players are waiting upwards of 90 minutes?

I honestly dont even use them anymore. Getting up and walking to the food court takes 1/3 of the time. No, its not as "convenient" but its definitely less annoying.

There's gotta be a path that the food runners can cut through to get to the food court, right? I'm also guessing that MGM probably doesn't want them to use a plastic cart to bring more bags of food all at once? All these things would cut some significant time for the food runners.

I’d like to see a change in the Sunday promotions.* Between the free money giveaways and the tournament, the room is packed beginning early in the day.* This is a good problem for the casino, I suppose, but it sucks for the players.* If you want to play the tournament, here’s what can happen:

1.*******If you bust early and want to re-enter, you have to get behind a long list of alternates.* This list exists because so many tables are needed for the cash games due to the free money giveaways.* By the time you get a seat, you start with a 30bb stack

2.*******Alternatively, If you bust early and want to play cash, you have to get behind a long list of players waiting for cash games.

3.*******If you don’t like waiting in long lists, you go home and mow the lawn instead.

The promotion or the tournament alone is probably enough draw to fill the room.* Would it be possible to move the promotion to a different day, or later in the day in order to spread out the crowd throughout the day?

Respectfully,
Loony

It would be nice to see the tournament scrapped on Sundays if the cash games are too busy to accommodate a tournament. I'd understand keeping the tournament if it makes more money for the room than cash games. (I don't pretend to know which is more profitable for MGM.)

I read the FAQ.

It says you might be able to call ahead to get on the list in January. Was that 2017 or 2018? Can you call ahead now?

Does cash play? What denominations?

Buy-in at the table or at the cage?

Is this a Pepsi place or a Coke place? Yes, I know it is poison.

Is parking still free? Garage 3/4 the best or is there a surface lot?

How does the dinner list work?

I'm fine with the way it is. I'm in early so always get a seat without waiting. And the fewer cash tables the better my odds to bink a promotion.

I would guess youve gotten appx 30+ hours of extra poker from me each of the past 2 months.

i think 5/10+ you can

no

table but sometimes they tell you cage, I normally try to grab chips from cage if possible.

Quote:

ive always asked for coke and they bring it, but who knows if they are actually bringing pepsi.

Quote:

yes. I have had good luck with 5, but you should be able to find parking somewhere, can always change floors inside.

Quote:

I think you have to play X number of hours first (5?) but i havent ever been held to that, but im also enough of a reg that the floors know me, so who knows on whether theyd enforce that part.

The part they do enforce is you must keep chips at table for them to count, and then you must buy back in with the same amount. You have 30 minutes to eat? (i dont think this is enforced super strictly either, but i never take >30 mins, my friends have been 45 mins or so before)

when you come back youre top of the list.

Loony
I am not sure if there was a tournament last Saturday - I never even thought to check before I left the house - but the room was a mob scene. Thankfully I got right in the 5/5 game that was starting up because at 12:45P I was 19th on the 1/2 PLO list. When I left - at 5:00P - I was still 7th LOL. I actually dont think I ever saw the tourney clock so maybe it was just a good crowd. But yeah it was like old school, opening month type crowds.

BTW theres no secret passage for the food runners. I've passed them with bags of food running back from the food court when I've walked there. And yes there is one kid that really hustles.

Re: MGM National Harbor Resort & Casino (Oxon Hill, MD); FAQ in OP

I'm way late on this response as I've been out of town, but Johnny posted a very good, but possibly incomplete description of the situation with the PLO games. Sometimes I will come and play 5 card or Big O first, but really want to play PLO that night. After waiting for several hours, my name gets called for PLO. Then I realize that if the game turns out to be bad, I would have to wait 3 or 4 hours to return to the other game, so I don't risk it and turn down the seat. Johnny registers that as another player that doesn't want to play PLO but that's not quite accurate. On the other hand, I have seen nights where another game gets called and all of the lists clear quickly. The new game runs for 2 or 3 hours then dies.

What is wrong with running that new game for a few hours? The lists clear, eliminating the massive wait for PLO, and then the table becomes available for other games. It seems like a win win.
