There are places in the slots where there is clearly more room to move around than there used to be a few months ago. If I had to guess I'd say they packed them way too close to each other at first, maybe had to spread them out and had to remove machines. Pure guess on my part but there were definitely areas that seemed like there was no way they were up to fire code.
I do know that MGMNH opened with a few hundred machines less than they were approved for. At the time IIRC they said they wanted to put more table games in. If they are seeing an increased demand for slots now, there's a chance they have a few hundred to play with.
I'm certain to be in the minority here but I think that a new room wouldn't be the end of the world and could actually be pretty good depending on the layout. Lots of minor issues that might be easily solved.
