I've brought this up before and people really sleep on this - something like 6 of the wealthiest 10 counties in the country are here, I think 3 of the top 4 are VA. National Harbor has been successful in part because of this and I think MGM will be as well.

Not sure if anyone caught any local news coverage this weekend. But in between the hundreds of storm stories they had a piece on MGM. This week they celebrated pouring the last concrete in the resort and interviewed Bryan Voltagio about his new restaurant, really excited for that.

Oh and one other reason I will prefer MGM that I dont think anyone has mentioned. But as a 2-3x/yr Vegas traveler, this will allow me to easily earn some MLife points towards those trips. I already get pretty good room offers for minor table play (free rooms at Bellagio or M. Bay) and this can only help.

Yay, we'll be able to use the comps to pay for parking at MGM properties in Vegas!

Now, just imagine if their brain-trust decides to extend that policy elsewhere. PGP baby...

Harrahs has plenty of Vegas properties. Unless someone already has a favorite, I don't see that pulling a playerbone way or another

Have you looked at Caesars' Vegas properties lately? Big difference earning something towards a nice stay at Aria vs. a random room at Flamingo or Ballys

Exactly.

The CET properties are garbage for the most part. I use that word flippantly but it is truthful for the most part. Caesars might be OK but the free rooms you will get there are pretty mediocre and the casino is terrible IMO. Paris, Ballys, Flamingo, Harrahs, Linq...ugh. I still get free room offers from them even though I do very little gambling there every year.

Wheras with MGM you can earn points towards Aria, Bellagio, Vidara, Mirage, Mandalay Bay/Delano, MGM and on down. Much better.

Again, IMO.

Hi guys! Just reading about some of the rumors flying around.... Would love to know where you guys get some of your info... Many of you have better info than me! I am officially the poker room manager of Beau Rivage until January 29. After that date, I will drop in on this thread and stop many of the rumors going around.

So I just heard that Johnny Grooms is not the poker room manager of MGMNH.
01-26-2016 , 03:34 PM
Gonna need a source for that, Rapini.
01-26-2016 , 03:59 PM
See the post above mine.

I don't think his post explicitly says that

Methinks it was Rapini's attempt at a joke referring to JG's

This is correct. I am not, nor will I ever be the poker room manager at MGM NH.

It probably comes from my history as a tournament director. On the second point...Uhhhhh...NO!

Third point.... UHHH NO! for every hour of play, we will offer a pack of saltines and a bottle of water.

Crap. I thought this was a thread about the Beau Rivage. Sorry....

Bet he comes back and says "I'm the Director of Poker Operations"

It would be funny/cool if the poker room manager of this place was Fossilman.

I wouldn't be a good manager, in that I have no experience in hiring/firing/annual-reviewing/being the boss over other people. But there are other parts of the job that I could probably do really well.

A better job for me is ambassador for the room. Would love to work with a place like this and do stuff to help it be a great room for the players and the house. Kind of like what Matt Glantz did for Parx. I've been talking to some rooms here and there, feel free to recommend me to your local poker room manager if you think I could help them out, and let me know so I can follow up with a call to them.

Thanks, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

See the bolded part of your post that I quoted.

Johnny Grooms looks like the guy. Not only did he say he is moving to a big opportunity 'up north', but he now says he will leave the Rivage at the end of January which aligns timing wise. Hopefully when that move happens he will be able to say for sure where he is going and will be able to provide more information and be able to interact here on details of the room if he is indeed coming to National Harbor.
I was asking about your statement that you saw news that the casino will open in the 4th quarter of 2016. What news source was this? Link?
