I think it's already time to add new tables
Harrah's has timed rake at 1/2nl and it's still beatable

To be honest, we won't because of just that, weekends is when most people come to play. We don't have the luxury of having enough tables to keep up with demand (at the moment). On Fridays and Saturdays, we have great 2/5-5/10 action, and great PLO action as well, with lists 10-20 deep at times. It's not in our best interest for us to spread 1/3 when we have these games. And I don't want to see 1/3 kill the 2/5 action.

Observations: lots of Houston players. Lots of Isle of Capri regulars. Some of the dealers were great, some were terribly slow.

Likes: time rake, deep stack nature of the games, the classiest casino property between Houston and New Orleans, Mississippi straddle

Dislikes: no noise and smoke protection from the casino. They need to enclose the room with glass walls and ventilate it. It's loud and smoky as hell. Bring your noise canceling headphones. No running it twice in 2-5 NLHE where the stacks often reach 400BB+ "because it's a jackpot game." Who cares. Jackpot standards are high (quads or better have to lose with both cards playing in both hands). Just make the top board only count for Jackpots if the players agree to run it twice.

There was a 25-50 PLO game going on. Several players I know had sessions where they lost 5 figures. Action, baby!

Overall, I was pleased with my first visit. It's not perfect, but it's the best poker room within 3 hours from Houston.
Thanks for the feedback and compliments. Not sure about the running it twice thing on jackpot eligible games. Might even be a state approval issue since a potential jackpot is involved. I'm looking into it.

I just called the poker room to get my name on a list for 1/3 and the guy I spoke to said that yall aren't running 1/3, and sounded a little confused about it. Have yall not started that game yet? If not when do yall plan on it?

Man, you aren't kidding. Granted, they are nice - but I can get two nights at Venetian/Palazzo or Aria for that much.

So far I've got 7 confirmations (not counting camz or RR) for mixed game this Wednesday. But as everyone knows, that may mean 3 show up.

Everything came through, so if we can spread the game tomorrow night we will. We'll put it on the board, I really hope it'll go.

Just a matter of supply and demand...we run near 100% occupancy during the summer. Come late August, maybe after Labor Day, we'll see what we can do.

After discussing it the past couple of days, we've decided not to run the 1/3. We will run the 4/8 limit if there is interest. There are some other ideas we're throwing around right now to add some things. I apologize for the late information, I didn't get a chance to post this morning.

There's a Wingate by Wyndham and a Springhill Suites by Marriott less than a mile away. Both are relatively new properties. Both are in the $150-160 range on the weekends.

Well as long as one other person shows up and will play heads up, then we'll have enough people to run the mixed game tonight.

What was the reason for not running the 1/3?
L'Auberge Du Lac Casino Resort (Lake Charles, LA) Quote

Probably because they wouldn't gain enough players to increase the number of tables that normally run, they would hurt the 2/5 game, and they would make less money.

It would be nice to have on weekends when there are enough people to fill it without hurting the 2/5 game, but until the room is expanded, there aren't enough tables for that.

except the casino won't run the game for just 2 ppl...

I am 100% in for next week, 8/3 as mentioned on twitter. I like that they are gonna put it on the board tonight and hopefully get some interest in it so that ppl come out next week.

I don't see any reason why they would not run it for 2 people, if they have an open table and they have enough dealers. Whether or not they would run it on terms that make sense for the players is another matter.

well true...but i just assumed since they are already limited on poker tables that they'd have no problem running another limit holdem game at that table. Can't see much rake generated form a HU mix game.

1/3 would not hurt the 2/5 the pot limit omaha and the 5/10 hurts the game. During the week they normally have 3-4 empty tables, so they could draw a crowd to feel in those tables.
