Will be in Louisville this weekend but only time I have to play is Saturday from 9am til around 4pm. I assume since its Saturday that at least a couple 1-2 games will be goin at 9 but wondering what the chances that a 1-3 or 2-5 will be running? Also is max buyin 300 at 1-2 and is there a buy up to a certain amount of big stack rule? Thanks in advance!

Doubtful that there will be anything bigger than 1-2 going at that time, and yes 300 max or half the big stack.

I just moved to Louisville. How good are the tournaments there now? Big fields?

The last few I have played in (spaced out over the past year and a half) have had 75ish runners. You might want to ask someone about their rake, because I believe they take a lot.

How has the action during the week been lately? I will be there next month and will only have the chance to play during the week, and most likely earlier in the day. I am looking forward to playing some 1/2 or 1/3, whatever is running.

In thinking of coming up Monday and Tuesday from about 240 miles out. Is the weekday cash/tournament traffic enough to warrant this trip? Should I just want for a weekend trip?

I'd be playing 1/2, small tournaments, as much as I can over the two days

I heard that a 10-20 Limit hold em game has been going on Saturday evenings...can anyone confirm if this is true, how long it went, full game or not, etc?
Thanks.

From the Southern Horseshoe Facebook page:

"Don't forget we will feature a $10 - $20 Limit Hold ‘Em game every Saturday in February and March. We will have a table and dealer reserved for this game each week at 5pm. Players will earn $2 / hour in comps and the rake will only be $2. We have had numerous players ask for this game, but we cannot seem to get enough of them in here at the same time so we decided to schedule a time for the players that would like to revive this wonderful game.
We had a good game last Saturday and almost had enough for 2 games, so make sure you come out and get in on the action!"

I actually did play in this game last Saturday. At 4 PM there was a list about 12 players deep, but they said the game would go at 5. Sure enough, shortly before 5 they called the list down. While dealer was preparing a guy asked if we were going to play with a full kill on the game, saying that's what they did the previous week. We all agreed so we did, but the floor was concerned because they have been advertising the game but not with a kill, so they didn't want any players showing up to play the game but not liking the kill. But we did play with a kill.
Some of the players were waiting for some of the other games, such as PLO or stud, and soon left. But we had a pretty full game for the 4 hours I played it. Don't know how long it went, but I'm pretty sure only one table went.
The players were not the 3/6 LHE players, but moreso players who played other higher stakes games.
Suffice it to say I liked the game and I will be going back tomorrow, 3/2.

Also, FYI, if you are a limit hold em player note that the tournament series that is about to start has a limit hold em event on Tuesday at noon, I think. Event #4, $150 buy in. As I've previously written, limit hold em tournaments are generally very attractive for competent LHE players.

If when the game starts anybody objects to the kill it will just go without it, and I don't think anybody would care that much. There was just a couple of degens in the game that like pumping the action. Myself, I can take it or leave it (the kill).
My point is don't let the kill discourage you from coming and joining the game. It may not even be on the game at that time or maybe if you ask the floor they'll take it off. Fine by me.

I plan on making a first visit when in the area on business in April, what game choices can I expect to find on a Friday night. Generally I play lower stakes NLH, PLO/PLO 8, LH, Stud, O 8, etc.

I am not the authority on this, but until someone else answers I will say that I am pretty confident that: $1-$2 (possibly 2-5) NLH and some LH will be running. There may also be some PLO going as well.

Check out the Bravo Poker Live App to see what games are currently running.

I have been keeping an eye on this with the Bravo app lately because I will be there in less than 2 weeks. Pretty consistently there has been a few 1/2 NLHE and 3/6 LHE games, along with the 2/5 NLHE going on Friday nights. I think there is also a 1/2 PLO game going on most Fridays.

Let me preface this post by taking responsibility for not looking at structure seats, etc. before registering for a tournament. I'm a recreational player that plays once or twice a week and I always enjoy playing mixed games when they pop up.

When HSI posted their "Midwest Regional Poker Championship" schedule, I was stoked to see H.O.S. on the lineup.

So, when the time came for the tournament, I was rather excited about it. It's few and far between outside the series that a tournament has mixed games. .....then I saw the structure sheets.

20 minute levels, starting at 25/50 and increasing by 100% every level. Wow. Really? Super nano turbo mixed game tournament? I knew we were screwed.

To make things worse, the dealers (while a few of them knew what was going on), for the most part, were under prepared. There were several occasions that the dealer at my table would lose track of which hand we were on, levels etc. ...and I don't blame the dealers for that. I blame the management for offering this tournament without having staff ready to deal it.

I just find it so impossible to believe that a numbered event in the "Midwest Regional Whatever" would've so horribly structured and ran so poorly. It's almost like they don't even care about repeat business now. ....when they need it the most.

Casinos are popping up everywhere in the area and you're losing customers. Way to go Jimmy, way to go.

I couldn't agree more. I was anticipating my favorite event, a limit hold em tournament, event # 4. But, I too was disappointed in how this tournament was run. The levels were ultra-turbo, as you mention, but my biggest beef was that they had antes kick in at about level 4. That may not sound like a big deal for those used to NL tournaments, but traditionally limit hold em tournaments do not have antes, at any level. This just exacerbated the already fast structure, and to win or place in this event one would have had to run good, no way around it.

I honestly don't think they consciously chose to run it differently than a limit tournament is supposed to be run--without antes--. I just think they didn't know any better.

But I guess I should give them credit for having the tournament to begin with.

I agree. I've never played a "limit" tourney with antes. Despite that setback, I thought some of the other tourneys were ran well.

I understand all the negative feedback ITT about the short blind levels and what not, but I only played in the turbo tourney (wanted to play more, but couldn't make any others) mainly because of the quick structure.

My point: some people like the "terrible" structures we often see in tournaments these days.

Do you all see this place surviving with other casino opening up with better business operations? They don't seem to service the players much in that room like other casinos do. They ran a lot of players off. Thoughts?

Still the only casino in the Louisville Metro area. Yes, there's Belterra 45-60 minutes away but that's more geared toward the resort aspect than the casino. They're not going anywhere.
