Re: Hollywood Casino, Kansas City
Played 2/5 for about three hours on Sunday 2/5/12, two days after opening.
Was told at the table that the degen games were so busy that they were turning people away at the door on opening night. Never heard of that happening.
Poker room on Sunday wasn't busy at all, but it was Super Bowl Sunday, so...
There was one 2/5 game, maybe two 1/3 games, and a few limit games.
Some of the dealers are green. One in particular (older guy with white hair) seemed like he had never dealt before. He wasn't terrible, but he was frequently confused.
Players were OK. One guy stood out as a bit of a douche, but the rest were human beings.

Re: Hollywood Casino, Kansas City
Went there saturday night. Room was full but there wasn't a wait for 1/3. I agree with the dealers being a little green. Play was pretty standard imo. Only got to play a couple of hours but am looking forward to going back. The room has a good location close to front door and restrooms. Nice to have another option here in KC.

I didn't count the tables, but 12 sounds right. It was smaller than I expected, and smaller than the original plan apparently. Not Argosy small, but not as big as Ameristar or Harrahs.
Room was about half full when I was there, but the Superbowl probably had something to do with that.
If you care, the degen games were pretty busy. The main pit was almost full, but the high limit was nearly empty. In the high-limit, expect $50/hand double-deck BJ with dealer H17, and it's face-up, which is stupid.

Re: Hollywood Casino, Kansas City
So how is this place on say Friday or Saturday nights. It only being 12 tables I could see huge issues with long wait lines, what games gonna take main precedence? 1-2 I imagine. How in the long run is this place gonna work for say like 2 5, where at harrahs it can get 4 2 5s at one night, now is the player base going to be half and half. Also does hollywood offer any good comps for playing poker and what hourly comp rate does a poker player receive?

Re: Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway (Kansas City, KS)
I played Tuesday night. They had a few 1-3 NL, i believe 3 2-5 NL games and a list for a 5-10 game with 3 players on it. Also had 2-4 and 4-8 Limit games. I know they had 20-40 Limit on Friday night and heard that they were going to continue to play it at the Hollywood. Some newer dealers are a little slow but overall it was a very enjoyable experience. Hopefully they keep players happy and contuinue to have a busy room with good game selection. I'll prob be up there this weekend. Let you know how it goes.

Re: Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway (Kansas City, KS)
They told me they have a contingency in place to expand the room by taking out the wall on the west side of the room, but idk opening a room in a brand new casino that has less tables than your competitors just seems dumb.

Re: Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway (Kansas City, KS)
I'm thinking of making the 3 hour drive to k.c. sometime this spring. Can anyone tell me what the action has been like on the weekends lately? How long is the wait to get a seat? Any advice on what hotel to stay at? Anything else I should know?
p.s. I play nlhe 1-2 up to 5-10.
Thanks wilpa

Action there has been sick. On weekends you will most likely find a handful of 1/3 NL, a few 2/5 NL and maybe some 5/5 and 5/10 NL mixed in. The 20/40 LHE runs from Thursday night into Saturday a lot of the time. If you dont want to wait, I suggest you try to get there before 5 PM. If you get there at like 9pm youll be waiting a good hour for a seat, imo.
Ill be there either friday or saturday. Send me a PM if you wanna meet up.
As far as hotels, theres a hampton inn nearby but i dont know about rates. Prob like $140 a night but it might be more expensive this weekend because i think theres a soccer game at livestrong stadium nearby.
edit: If you play PLO, the 2/5 PLO games are the nuts. I have won over 5k in a session at that game. There are a few 5/10 and 10/20 NL players that dabble in PLO and they flat out suck
