I've never had any problems cashing out before, either. But this person was so unaware of how to properly do the job:

• couldn't cut chips
• did not know how to properly arrange them for counting
• was apparently unaware that different colored chips were different denominations

There is no way this person was ready to be entrusted with thousands of dollars without more training.

They've been bringing in a lot of new cashiers lately, but this is the worst I've seen. Which is why I posted the warning.

Yes, the hiring of new dealers is great; and they've brought in a couple new tables in the past couple of months.

But, from what I'm hearing, they're not using the new dealers to increase the number of tables during peak times. They're going to extend the hours open until 6am.

Sigh.

I can also confirm like TopGun that 3 new dealers have started in the past two weeks and seem to be doing very well. Three more (experienced) dealers to begin their journey soon, perhaps in the next two weeks. This has led to more tables being open at one time, less waiting list time, and less "freezing of the waiting list", where tables need to be closed down early because of unavailable dealer staff. More tables running also means more promotional money collected and subsequently paid out.

I like the October promotions with both High Hand payouts and rakeback for hours played. Crazy me has now qualified for the 100 hours level.

Word has it that November will involve some big money payouts. I'll post the details when I get them.

November looks to be a BIG payout month regarding promotions at Charles Town. More details can be found on their BRAVO page.

In essence, it looks like following:

--- Rake Back for frequent players. Top 50 qualify. $50 for 50 hrs, $125 for 75 hrs, and $250 for 100hrs. I finished with 128 hrs in the October promotion, but not sure how aggressively I will pursue this in November. It is certainly a balancing act between what poker results one achieves and the number of hours one needs to get in to qualify for rake back.

--- There will be $200 High Hands every 30 minutes (with Rollovers this month!) during a select number of hours each day. Each High Hand winner will receive 1 or more tickets to be placed in a drum for VIP drawings on 11/25 and 11/26.

--- VIP Drawings to be made each hour from 1:00 pm thru 11:00 pm on both Friday (11/25) and Saturday (11/26). Eight of the 11 hourly drawings will be for $300, while the remaining 3 drawings will be for $1000. There are still a few details which are not clear to me, so I will post them once confirmed.

Looks like I will be spending quite a few hours at Charles Town again in November!

Five of the six new dealers are now working. The remaining one will start soon.

VIP (11/25 + 11/26) drawing details confirmed:
--- As suspected, the person whose name is drawn must be on a table or on the wait list at that time. Otherwise their ticket is placed back into the drum (rather than discarded) and another name is drawn.
--- When a player's ticket is drawn, that ticket is re-entered into the drum, thus remaining eligible to win multiple times.

Interesting note from yesterday.......after multiple rollovers, a player hit a high hand totaling $1000 AND 5 tickets for the VIP drawings! I am sure they will make it a priority to be there on 11/25 and 11/26!

Me, I am still working to earn my first ticket.

Has there been any news on whether the poker room will go back to 7 days a week?

I have not heard anything in that regard.

They are not currently hiring dealers, per the poker room manager; and unlikely they could cover that many extra hours with their current number of dealers.

I'll see if i can get a better answer to your question tonight.

Have reasons to visit the DC and MD area over the next few years at least. Generally will play at Live! and Horseshoe, rarely likely to get down to MGMNH.

Is Charlestown worth more than just a single visit to play once and collect a chip fir collection? What special treat does it have to draw repeat drives?

I am sure I will eventually get there but if it has some particular draw I might raise the priority to get there.

In my opinion, you should go to the other casinos rather go to Charlestown. Not my favorite casino, and action is limited, even on weekend. I was there around the Fourth of July and action was slow.

The draw is to go to Harper's Ferry while you're in the area.

Also FWIW, while the poker room/area is ‘non-smoking’ the casino is smoking.

I wouldn’t go to Charles town for the action really unless you just want to check the place out. I’d play 2-5 or plo there which runs certain days if you go. Things I like about Charles — Nine Dragons (surprisingly good Asian food and sushi), the steakhouse (expensive but good), the sports bar and Sportsbook, and for me at least the best part …night horse racing under the lights on certain nights (I love horse racing though so your mileage may vary but it’s a lot of fun). I used to enjoy the casino when I played table games but it’s been a long time (it is smoky though). Harpers ferry nearby is awesome if you’re a history buff and the drive from dc area is beautiful if you take the scenic route (not sure where you will be coming from) and there are good restaurants to stop at on the way.

Also note it’s closed Monday and Tuesday (poker, the casino is open). And open 9-3 am weekend nights and 9-6 am I believe Friday and Saturday.

what's wrong with the 1/2 game?

I can’t really speak to it as I haven’t played it in awhile (I remember some good tables but some tighter ones with small pots like anywhere else). I was just saying what I would do if I was going to drive from the dc area. I think 1-2 leads to smaller pots than 1-3 and they have if I recall a somewhat high rake there and no comps at all. That said the players are friendly and I like the vibe there so I have nothing against the 1-2 necessarily.

All of this.

Rake is $6+1.

Do you have a more specific question?

If directed at me, no other specific questions. Just trying to prioritize a visit. Def will make the trip over from Ft M area but lots of mini trips on the list for our visits the area.

Def will not be primary room on visits. Prolly Horseshoe but Liv did treat us well on last trip. Wife wife is a DElite/7* level degen but also likes LS limit.

Casino smoking is actually a plus since wife is a smoker. She doesn’t mind the smoking pavilions but on floor smoking gives her more choices. Plus it was miserable for her last time. We were there for Christmas when was single digits and pavilion heater could not keep up

Harpers Ferry myself and son will love, wife not so much

I have never really like 1-2 esp with shallow buy in, just never been comfortable getting my sidings right. Much more used to deep 1-3 so on EC generally play 2-5 when I can

$7 rake is a little steep for capped 1-2 wo match stack but is what it is. Just more reason th play 2-5 if avail

So we’ll get over there but not a top priority

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this; it's been a busy week.

A few things to consider:

• Antietam battlefield is within 30 minutes of the casino.

• If you go during the colder months, bring plenty of warm clothing that you can remove if necessary. They do a really poor job of maintaining a reasonable temperature in the casino. Sometimes it's freezing cold, other times it's roasting. And other times it can be fine.

• If you're playing 2/5 definitely call ahead to get on the list. At most they'll have 2 games running, and sometimes the wait to get in the game is long even if the actual list is short.

The same for the 2/2 4 card PLO, which runs @ 3pm on Fridays, and the 5/10 NL which runs at 9am Saturdays.

• Worth noting that Live has been running a 4/8 limit with a half kill lately, but I don't know if it runs with the kill every day.

Enjoy

--klez

ETA: I'd recommend going on a Friday or Saturday: not many games run during the week, and 2/5 is not guaranteed to run, or to run for very long.

Also worth noting the 2/2 PLO game plays with a $10 straddle (at least at the main game... second table usually is more flexible, but the regs will definitely appreciate playing ball).

It doesn't. There was a fixed limit O8 game going on the weekends for a period of time, but it hasn't run in a while. I think it's just holdem and PLO now.

Worth noting some changes here:

• Jackpot drop has been increased to $2: $1 @ $10, 2nd @ $60

• BBJ has been revived: $10k: half to loser, quarter to winner, quarter for table share

• Qualifying hand for BBJ drops by one hand every month it does not hit, currently at AAAKK

• Other promos have been improved across the board

• Buyins for 1/2 have been increased to $100-$400

• No more 1/3

That is a tiny BBJP, ours usually start out well above that and build to much greater.

What is the initial qualifying hand? AAAKK?

It used to be progressive, but the player pool has shrunk a lot since then with new casinos opening in the area.

Initial qualifying hand is any quads beaten.

Bravo is showing a Labor day Tournament for this Monday. I haven't played at CT in a long time and have a few questions regarding this tourny. Hopefully someone knows a little more about it.

Registration starts at 6am. This seems early for an 11am tourny. Are they expecting this to max out? If so what would be a recommended time to register?
I don't see anything regarding the structure. Has anyone seen a structure sheet?
MD live is running a 20gtd with about the same buy in. But CT is a bounty and 25k gtd so I would assume this is a better option unless someone knows something that I don't

I was there recently and people seemed pretty excited so it wouldn’t surprise me if it sold out, but who knows. It is the first tourney there in awhile and on a holiday (and poker room usually closed Monday). Registration is at main cage, there isn’t a cage in poker room. My guess is 6 am is just because that is when the new gaming day begins so that is when registration is available. No idea on structure but generally the bounties count toward the guaranteed prize pool in most places.
