Sounds like a pretty effective business model that most companies use. Making changes to serve their business goals not just to appease the few that complain, cant fault them for that.

128 entrants X $130 = $16,640 prize pool
That first place cash seems high for this pool. I was curious what the payouts were for all who cashed.

Re: Hollywood Casino @ Charles Town, WV Poker Thread
Hello All,
It looks like the first tourny event was a success at Chuck. They sold 110 seats and another 20 alternatives an hour before the start of the Tournament. The first prize was $5700, I didn't get a chance to pick up the prize distribution, I will do that next time.
The juice and chip break down is as follows:
150 buy-ins are = 130 + 15 + 5 - 4000 Chips
250 buy-ins are = 225 + 20 + 5 - 5000 Chips
As I reported before, I assumed the staff bonus would get you extra chips, but, I was wrong there is no additional benifit to do so (no extra chips for $5 staff bonus, then why would one pay for it?).
There is a 10 minute break after every 4 levels (20 min levels) of play. The fourth level is blinds 200 - 400 (essentially bringing the M to 10 for a 4000 starting stack). So, I would assume, this level would be the shove fest level (any one who is card dead for couple of levels or lost a big hand would be in this mode).
I am glad that there are tournaments at Chuck, I hope the structures would be made a little better (introduce additional levels for more play or bump up the starting stack).
It would be interesting to see how much demand the nightly would get today.

I'm going to guess demand will be quite high. I'll be heading down the for the donkament tonight and will report back on it tomorrow. I'm going to head over for cash game first in the afternoon because if yesterday was any indication this will sell out pretty early.

M uses blinds + antes, so the M at 200-400-0 is 6.7 for everybody that has 4000 chips.

That's way too fast: super turbo. Maybe after they get started they'll offer differnet, better structures. These might sell out for a while, but people are going to get tired of little amount of play they get before it becomes a shove/fold fest.
I understand that they want to schedule these things when they're slow, hence Tues and Wed, but I think a nicely structured tourny for a nice buy in begining Sat morning would do real well. As long as they're selling out those awful structures, they have no incentive to mix it up.

Card rooms do not exist so that poker players have the perfect place to play cards. They exist to make money for the owner. CT seems to be doing a pretty good job of that right now. They'll make changes when they need to to keep the room full.

You still didn't answer my question and as someone already mentioned, you're wrong. Management had nothing to do with the success of tourneys here except just host them. There is a huge demand for poker in the DC area and we've already discussed it before CTOWN had poker up and running.

Re: Hollywood Casino @ Charles Town, WV Poker Thread
Arrived @ 3 pm Wednesday:
9, 1-2 NLH
4, 2-5 NLH
1 5-10 NLH
1 3-6 Limit
Roughly 10 on 1-2 and 2-5 waiting list.
Within first 30 minutes 30+ had signed up for evening tourney. By 6 pm only 60+ had signed up. There was the initial surge then quiet for a while. At the end of the night the total # of entrees was 95 (not a sell out).
Of note, the alternates take open seats through level 2, if there are any.
Prize Pool : ~$19,000
1st ~7300
2nd ~4100
3rd ~2300
4th -9th Can't recall.
The tournament was down to 3 players at 12:30 am so I imagine it was over around 1 am after 6 hours of play. By the 5th level it was down to 70+, by the end of the 7th level it was down to 35+, not sure after that.
I did play just to see how things went. TAG AND POSITION is definitely the way to go. Get in low, hit the flop and jam. In the end, it was fun but luck did play a major factor. I DO like the speed....even though other casino tournaments have better structures for the skilled player, grinding for 12 hours is hard to do. IMO: I would like to see daily tournaments structured to last around 8-9 hours long.
My suggestions for improvements:
1) Have the sign up line start at the cage and go back towards the bathrooms; this way folks trying to get chips or cash out aren't mixed in with the registration. At 3 pm the initial 30 got in line to sign up and there were a few frustrated folks that were trying to get/cash chips.
Then to lengthen the tournament to 8-9 hours by either:
2) Add 4 levels with 25, 50 antes and add another 100 and 200 ante level. The speed went WAY up at the 5th -8th levels...it was almost manic. To prove my point between the 5th and 6th level dead money went from 900 (300/600) to 2200 (100/400/800) The earlier levels were manageable.
OR
3) Increase the levels to 30 minutes. But I prefer suggestion #2 above. Doubt I will participate in the tournament again at its current structure, but it was entertaining. Definitely created buzz in the room. You can have great success if you hit a heater in the 5th -8th levels.
4) Oh yeah, I would like to see SnGs started that pay top 3. This tournament was a lot like a SnG, except short handed play doesn't become a factor until later, which makes it more difficult to play.
@ 10 pm the wait list was
12, 1-2 NLH (8 on list)
5, 2-5 (20 on list)
1, 5-10 (7 on list)
10-20 PLO interest list was about.
I left at 12:30 am after the CAPS nailed it! The tables were starting to break pretty quickly. The action makes CT so worth it, even though it really isn't a "spa" poker room (the kind that really caters to its patrons). Saw a lot of soft play, yet again.

Re: Hollywood Casino @ Charles Town, WV Poker Thread
What time does the room start to fill up on a Friday? Is it just as advisable to get there around noon, as it would be on a Saturday to get a quick seat at a 2/5 NL game?

Good thing DP Marketing hasn't thought of that yet, it would be real dilemma for those living 2+ hours away. I think I'd have to move to be closer.

Of course "all" management did was host the tourney. Why are you making my arguement for me? There is a demand. They are using scarce resources to make money by filling that demand. If the demand falls off they will change how they allocate their resources if they think they can make more money by doing so. They don't care if we think it is a crappy sturcture. They care if they are making money.
