Re: Hollywood Casino @ Charles Town, WV Poker Thread
The posts in this thread have become so boring. Why this digression and aversion of food at the table.
There are no TR's for as long as I can remember. There is no representation from the management (even though the room is active for 2 months).
There is no confirmation about it being 24/7 anytime soon (even though they are active for two months).
One thing is for sure, you can definitely make a lot of money, the variance might hurt sometimes, but, the games are still pretty juicy.

Re: Hollywood Casino @ Charles Town, WV Poker Thread
OK, I'm pretty dead-set on driving to C-Town from C-Ville tomorrow for some 5-10 or 10-25 if it runs. A few questions:
1. I remember reading this somewhere in the thread, but where's the best place to park (ie closest to the poker room) again? Or should I just be a baller and valet my sick $3k whip?
2. If I get there at 1 PM, how long will it take for the 5-10 game to start running?
3. How soft is 5-10 compared to 5-10 in Vegas or AC?
4. Should I get there early to get a casino players card or whatever? Are they mandatory for poker players? Do you get any "comps" ($1 per hour or whatever) for checking in with the players card?
5. What's the best route from Charlottesville? Google makes it seem like the back roads are most direct, and I'll probably go that way because I run really bad on I-81.
Also, banning all eating at the table is pretty dumb, but if people are regularly digging on sloppy, drippy, greasy, nasty sandwiches and **** like that it could be the lesser of two evils.
Oh, new question: how is at&t cell phone reception/3g service there?

Re: Hollywood Casino @ Charles Town, WV Poker Thread
S-Man, here are some answers:
1. Valet Parking and East Garage are next to each other. I haven't felt uncomfortable self parking at CTown till now. So, my vote would be for East Garage.
2. Starting a 5-10 game on Friday shouldn't be an issue. You can sit at a 2/5 till your game is called.
3. I only played 2/5 and 1/2, so, no help here.
4. They are no comps currently, they might back track for the hours played later. You can get a card right at the cashiers cage in the poker room while getting your chips.
5. Sorry no help on this as well.

Re: Hollywood Casino @ Charles Town, WV Poker Thread
Park in the East Garage on lvl 1 or 2, park near the 2nd set of doors on the right as you drive in, poker room is about 100' from there. Never used valet. Played again at 2/5. I feel the level of 2/5 play here is akin to the 1/2 play at the Borgata. Better players for the most part, who know how to fold JJ on a T36K board when I flop a set of 3s, only to catch their J on the river for a set of Js..... I digress.
Trip Report
Got there at 12pm Labor Day Monday, about 40 ppl in line. I ate at the Epic Buffet prior to, so I wouldn't have to eat at the table. For $13 it isn't a bad deal, food isn't 5star, but it serves it's purpose. People don't even wash their hands before eating at the table, after shuffling chip shmegma for a couple hours. Kind of revolting, but whatever.
Dealers have VASTLY improved, to the point in a 13 hr session there was a total of 4 misdeals at the table. There was one turn card flipped prior to action being completed which resulted in a guy hitting a boat on the river to another's flopped straight. That caused a ruckus, but it happens.
Players were decent, a couple of old locals who seemed to know each other well, and played in home games together. I do wonder about the collusion aspect as several never seemed to take each others' money, so keep an eye out for that. Just gotta find the fish and exploit them. There's always the token crazy aggressive Asian and the Middle Eastern Shover at every table.
First couple hours I was down a buyin at 2/5 with 3 OESDs and 3 OESFDs that never materialized. After that was a long climb until 1 am, finished +$1000.
Did have 1..incident where I tried to get by a guy who was sitting against 1 of the columns, and politely asked him to slide in a bit, and he refused, telling me to go around. total dickmove, and I asked him of all the people in the poker room, why he chose the 300lb gorilla to take a stand against, and his whole table started berating him. Kind of funny, I went around, no harm no foul. He later came over and apologized, maybe he had just taken a beat or something. It's running smoothly now. No definitive answers on 24/7, but for a local cardroom stocked with fish, I'll continue to play there.

I've sat against those columns before. Don't understand why people like to squeeze their way through tight spaces when there's clearly better routes to take. I was bumped so many times that I said to the person next to me that the next person that tries to force their way through I'm jamming my seat back. My only problem was most of the people squeezing through did not politely ask like you did. If they had, I probably wouldn't have been bothered by it so much.
I'm in no way criticizing what you did since you clearly showed better manners than most and at least politely asked him if you could get through.

I've always taken the back roads from Charlottesville to CT. Straight up 29N into Madison, then 231/522 to Sperryville, 522 to Front Royal, 340 to CT. Should get you there in a shade under 2.5 hours and is a very scenic drive.

Any particular reason you think the level matters? (There are elevators.)
I arrived on Wed. between 12:45 and 1 p.m. No line at podium; immediate seating for 1/2; about 10 people in line at cage; playing in less than 10 minutes. Damn near perfect.
Game started out tight, but within 45 minutes it was 50-100 in the pot PF almost every hand. Crazy sweet.

i have encounter the same douche moves by ppl who refuse to budge as i get up to goto the bathroom. the reason why i have a problem is because depending on where you sit, people who walk around can be STUCK. you HAVE to ask someone to move their seat or you can NEVER get out. so obviously, logic says I should take the easiest way to the bathroom - and get by someone w/ a chair close to the columns. and i've met ppl who just refuse to budge, and not even look up. i guess they may have done it so many times and is annoyed, but really? I asked politely and they cant even give a reply? i mean, i dont even have a choice, I was stuck so it is either him or i ask someone else near the tables where the seats are crammed.
trying not to create a scene, i went another way and the ppl there didn't budget till the hand was over. kinda weird situation that CT is probably at fault but honestly, it's just common decency some times

I've sat against them too, usually with 2 lardasses on either side of me. They suck, but it's part of the room unfortunately. I was in the 8 seat on the table right next to his, center of the rear area, and all I needed was an extra couple inches for him to slide one way or the other. If he wasn't such a dick about it would not have been an issue, it wasn't like I just bulldozed through and didn't say a word like most. He wasn't in a hand and was shoved back like 2" from the column just lounging
@Klez:
no particular reason other than it's fastest and more populated than the upper levels.

Yes a very nice scenic drive, but not the fastest route imo. Take I-81 all the way to Inwood, WV and follow the signs from there. I made the trip in 2 hrs 10 minutes.

I was on table 2 on Wed for about 5 hours on Wed leaving around 8. Crazy action. I played pretty poorly, but people weren't shy about building a pot. Some real crazy players. I had built my 300 up to 700 then proceeded to piss it back down to nothing.

You might be thinking of me!
What seat were you in?
I was in seat 2 from the first hand until about 4 or so. Was mostly card dead, but took down a few big pots with middling hands. Yeah, the action kind of reminded me of the Taj on a Fri/Sat night.

Re: Hollywood Casino @ Charles Town, WV Poker Thread
I'm planning on going up tomorrow after work, will get there around 6pm. I've been 4-5X now, but all during the week when there never is much of a wait. Can anyone who has Friday after-work experience elaborate on waits around 6pm? I know lines at the 1/2 tables definitely develop on Fridays, just not sure when. If you see a guy with a beat-up Notre Dame hat at your table, give the 2+2 password (which I have still yet to decipher, both from the boards and live at the tables). GL all!
