Bangor just makes more sense for me because my family is still there which means a free place to stay. I'll be up there in a couple weeks. If no one gives an update before that I will post something.

I'll gladly give an update for the few that asked. First, the dealer situation has improved in my opinion, in terms of quality. However, a lack of dealers (plus the company's refusal of part timers getting more than 28 hours a week) makes it so some days they simply cannot open tables as the list dictates. For example, if it rains on a Monday, you may be stuck waiting for hours until a dealer comes in because they likely have not scheduled enough dealers (the room is way busier during rain). This has only been an issue occasionally, but it is mind numbing and frustrating when it happens.

Secondly, 1/2 is always running. 2/5 has been going regular on Tuesday and Thursday. From what I hear, Saturday it is typically going as well. An insane 5/10 game has been running at 8 am every Thursday lately (yes, 8 am). Guys are literally opening the CASINO at 8 am to play. It is crazy but the action is just nuts. If you can absorb some potential swings, this game is just crazy juicy.

SNGs never go.

In terms of players, it is a pretty good mix. If you are smart, you'll be able to figure out where the action players are simply by seeing if people are attempting to switch tables. Tables almost always break into an action table and a nitfest one (in terms of 1/2). 2/5 is typically always insane and never a nitfest.

Daryn - I think it's 2 vs 3, but if you think Hollywood is inferior to FW then I would love to know why (serious question, no snark).

BSturgeon - wow, sounds kinda promising. Guess I'll definitely have to head up there some Sat. night for some 2-5. Still seems like FW is the better bet by far though. Thanks for the write-up!

I guess what I really need to know as well is - how are FW and MS these days? If anyone wants to chime in on that great, obviously I will do my due diligence in the appropriate threads there as well.

Well just more tables, wider range of games and stakes, better restaurants. It's not even close, and I think Foxwoods kinda sucks!

How does it take three hours to get from bangor to Foxwoods?

Thanks a lot for the update BSturgeon. I'll be up sometime next weekend for family stuff and will definitely get a few hands in.

So is there no sng/tourneys starting at all or are you just not interested in them?

I've only been once, but according to the dealer they stopped running SNG's because of a lack of interest. If this info is incorrect, please feel free to let me know!

Also, when the local universities are in session, does the poker room see an influx of college aged players? I think most 21+ college students would be desperate to play even in spite of a fairly high rake. Any input is appreciated!

There are a few more college aged players when school is in session, but nothing ridiculous. I feel like they gravitate more towards blackjack and roulette.

The SNG info is correct as far as I know. There is just a complete lack of interest in them. But in reality, if they had the ability to run MTTs, I think there would be a ton of interest.

Just saw a guy slow roll a good regular player here. Worst deliberate slow roll I've ever seen. Blatant and then he laughed about it !

After about 5 minutes of being ridiculed by the whole table he racked his chips and left.

It's been a long time since anyone has updated this thread and in the meantime the games have gotten very good at Hollywood. If you are interested in some solid $2/5 action there is a fantastic game that starts early on Tuesdays and runs most of the day. There is another juicy $2/5 game on Thursday and usually runs until close. Saturday usually boasts one too. There is an occassional $5/10 list that gets started as well. Min/Max for the $2/5 is $200/$1000

The games always look great to me, but I've still not made a profit after 150 hours, so maybe I'm just terrible.

It's a profitable room for many that I am aware of. Admittedly the $1/2 Action is much harder to beat than the bigger games. Regardless of the game most of the players are calling stations that give action when they are huge dogs in the hand. If you can stay patient enough to get max value in big spots while staying away from marginal value spots you should come out on top.

Much appreciated. One month to go and I get to check it out for myself...

I'm assuming the 1/2 is harder to beat because of the rake, not the skill level. Have you (or anyone) played the 2/5 lately?

The 2/5 is typically craaaaazy juicy. Tuesday especially. 2/5 has been running on Thursday as well, but a 5/10 game has kind of killed a bulk of the good action that was at the 2/5 game.

And yes, beating 1/2 is more of beating the rake than the players. Although, it can be done.

I was leaning towards FW even with the extra time and gas money because the rake up there is so bad. Guess I have a reason to hit this place up after all.

Still wish Oxford would get some tables though. sigh

FOUR DOLLAR POKER RAKE

Join us every Sunday & Monday during October in the Poker Room for a reduced Poker Rake of $4!

not quite half rake, but...meh. I'll be up there soon...

It will certainly be interesting how much extra traffic the reduced rake will attract on Sunday and Monday, as they are both typically slow days.

I can't make up my mind.

Rake for FW is $4 max unless they've changed it (i'm playing 1/2).

I haven't played in a long time, and would like a memorable first trip back.

Are the players at 1/2 in Hollywood that much worse than in FW? MS?

Thanks!
