Just started going here recently. I have only been here a couple of times, but my experiences have been pretty positive. I have never really gone to a casino before so I was a little lost, but getting into a game was pretty easy.

Could someone let me know how you get a Players Card here? Is there a cost?

There's a player's card. Go ask the desk they'll help you out. It's free.

Thanks for helping me out. I picked one up earlier today.

Any chance you know what the real benefits of the players card are? They should really talk about it on their website.

The main benefit for them at HG is to qualify for free roll tournaments or tournaments that aren't exactly free but you get into them alot cheaper if you have x amount of hours for the week. For example there is a $10,000 GTD tournament every Saturday at 10am. If you have 10 hours or more that week you get in the tournament for $10 + $10. If you have no hours then it's $60 + $10

How is the 5/10nl and 2/5nl action during the week? How many games do they get going? Do they allow 100x big blind buy ins or more?

I haven't played HG on a regular basis in a long time but i do know this, the structure is terrible. I'm not sure if this is 100% correct but the 5/10 game is 500 dollar buyin can't buy more or less. I am absolutely certain there is no 2/5 game in NL it's 3/5 and the buy in is 300 in HG. Welcome to crappy low/mid stakes structure of LA county. Hope others will chime in to confirm or correct my post.

You are wrong about the 5/10 game. The buyin is 500-1000. You are right about the 3/5 though. It is locked in at 300. There are a couple different options for topping up though. When you drop under 300 you can always bring your stack back up to 300. You also can add on a full 300 buyin at 150 or below. Also if you get felted you can buyin for 150 fold your hand then buyin for another 300 the next hand and be at 450. And most of the time you can just ask the table if they mind you just bringing the 450 into play all in one shot and most won't object.

The action is good during the week. 5/10 (500-1000 buyin) seems to always have at least 2 tables going for most of the day and into the night. 3/5 (300 buyin) will have anywhere from 6-10 tables going. Even late into the night and early morning during the week there is usually 3 games of 3/5 still running. A couple weeks ago I took a break from my game and was just looking around the place and on a random wednesday at like 1am five 3/5 tables were still going and the place was still pretty busy. Action is good and the games are really soft. The 5-10 I've only taken shots in but it didn't seem significantly tougher than the 3/5, just more money on the table. 3/5 NLHE at HG is my main game. I've talked to some other people who's games I respect that play the 5/10 reguarly and they pretty much agree with my sentiments. And ohh yeah comped food at the 3/5 and 5/10. There are some really good things on the menu and some mehh things as well but overall I think it's up near the top as far as food for the LA area rooms.

Thanks, I'll keep this in mind next time I play the 300 at HG. I usually go to the bike to play low stakes, love the 2/3 100-300 game they have.

I actually tried the 2/3 100-300 at the Bike for a couple weeks and I think the 300 3/5 at HG is way better. At the Bike you get so many people just buying in for 100-200 or just nitting up and half ass paying attention just so they can hang out for an hour and get the free food. Hardly anyone buys in for the full 300. So basically you are looking at the same 40-60 buyin structure that everyone rips on all the time. The Bike 2/3 game never gets super deep. Even though the buyin is capped initially at 60 BBs for the HG 3/5 you still get multiple people with 1500+ on the table. With the same relative BBs in play to start there is just way more money on the table and more action in the HG 300. If I'm going to be buying in for 300 I'd play the HG 300, Hustler 300-500, or Bike 300-500 before I played the Bike 100-300.

that is true, you'll get way more action at the other places than the bike from what I've heard.

I agree w/ Chips here...although table selection is super obv here as there are some crazy-action tables going sometimes, especially Fri/Sat, so be prepared for a couple buy-ins to get going. My avatar is from the 300 there not too long ago........gl and have fun. (and yes, I was up a lot, and Chips, if you've been playing there for a long time, we've prob crossed paths...)

Wish I ran good live, nice avatar!. How often do you go to HG? I used to go all the time when I turned 21 and was still in school, now that I'm 26 and discovered online poker and rake and all that I don't go at all.

Thx , I used to go 3/4x week in 07-09, played the 300 and the 5/10 which used to be like the 300 but w/ 500 max then rebuy full @ 250. Then I played online about the same amt from 09-bf. Now prob just 1/2x wk. My regular job and commute are a killer which was why I started playing online (mainly mtts and rush due to time/girlfriend constraints) sometimes. HG is def action which can be good, but can blow thru some bi's real quick too! I wasn't worth a crap online cept some 6-max but binked 3 tourneys and some ft's for some decent scores. I miss rush poker a lot, gl to you!

Don't play HG 5/10 game unless you're looking to get cheated. There are lots of rumors there about friends playing together and make signs and/or bet patterns when they sit on the same table. If you go there at 9 AM, which is generally when the 1st 5/10 game started, you'll see a table full of regulars. I'm not surprised if they share the same bankroll too. 3/5 game at HG is more profitable. I believe I did a 16hrs session there and came out with around 4k from my initial $300 bi. I played both of those stakes before and some 5/5 plo and 10/20 nlhe at HG. I can tell you that the 3/5 game is most profitable. GL

Can you buy in for $150, then add $300 the next hand or is it just after you get felted?

+1 I agree and I've played pretty extensively there as well. Plus there's also the risk that someone tries to run you over on your way home.

The reason I went there was because of that hot card checker girl though. Anyone who's a regular there knows who I'm talking about. I always wondered what her story was.

I know who you're talking about. They always hire girls with fake boobs walking around scanning cards. Weird thing is I'm sure some of those girls slept with a couple high rollers before too. I came across a conversation before with Mr. Lee, who's rumored to win a big lotto jackpot, that he slept with one of those girls (i won't name) for $500/ea. Now knowing Mr. Lee, I wouldn't think he was joking. This guy has to be the biggest ATM at HG 5/10 and above. I'm sure he lost over a quarter mil a year playing at those stakes and ppl always "change table" onto his table.

I also talked to a few other "whales" who played 5/10 and 10/20 at HG and they also "confirmed" about the rumors. HG did fired a girl, which I would pay $1k/nt for..too bad..oh and some dealers do too..you just need to know which ones lol.

Anyway, if you're looking to play 5/10 or bigger games, I suggest you go to Commerce in the afternoon and nights because generally speaking they have more tables and you're less likely to sit at a table with a bunch of regulars and/or friends with each other and also because Commerce runs 5/10 with max $400 bi.

Yeah, I've always heard about how shady the 5-10 game has been. Remember when there was confirmed cheating and it was done from the inside? That's scary when you have casino employees in on it, let alone all the collusion.

Yeah it's the Vietnamese girl she has like dyed golden hair, looks like she could be half white or something. They fired her?

Thanks for the stories. Very interesting.

Is Mr. Lee the guy w/ the Lambo? When I was playing the 5/10 in 07-08 he was there a lot and always had his keys around so everyone would know. Whatever...oh, and another plus 1 w/ the card check girls, and there was one dealer that was outrageous (although I'm mum on those things now, but we can still look and reminisce, yes?).

Remember back in 2005 when there was a guy who always played the 500 game. He was dating Amy, a former asian dealer at HG, who happened to be married. When he found out about the love triangle and how Amy ditched him to come back to her husband because apparently dude busted his bankroll from the 500. He decided to burn her house, killed her husband, 1st degree burn for her, and committed suicide for himself. She was my favorite dealer too I hit a straight flush against a royal for 60k from her.
