i heard joliet harrahs is putting in a poker room, that should put empress room on their toes . wonder if empress is smart enough to start some damage control. hope the dealers from empress dont migrate to harrahs, unless they want to play . that would be good.

I have heard from some of the pit dealers that they have dealers in school for dealing poker. Some players at the Empress also have said they are opening one in January. I have heard it all before. I will believe it when I see it.
It is absurd though, that the owners of the WSOP don't have a room there.

I talked to them (someone at Harrahs Joliet) they said in March the room will be open.

It would be nice if they could create competition to get a rake under $8 or $6 in the Illinois Chicagoland but that is probably a big dream.

The proposed new Illinois gaming statute will include tax incentives for the joints (protect them if they lose money). The legislation has a good chance of becoming law. The room at Harrah's Joliet is being opened in anticipation the legislation will become law. I don't doubt the joints will get the incentives and also continue with high rakes. They are in business to make money...a lot of it.

There is a thread in here (now), about winning a pot, but LOSING MONEY, because of a high rake.

I think you are being optimistic about a 2/5 game actually happening.

Trust me, my feelings about any newly opening poker room are anything but optimistic. I'm a lower end midlimit limit player.

Outside LA and a few games in Vegas and AC there are virtually no games spread anywhere that I want to play.

Seriously -- try Tunica Horseshoe or the Canterbury in MN. Maybe even the Poti in Milwaukee. River City in south St Louis is showing some promise.

Illinois poker rooms and casinos are a waste of time.
Ugh - still have not played in the new Elgin poker room and will have to stop this spring to try the new Joliet Harrahs one also.

Did this poker room open up? I'm going to be up there in a couple weeks, and I wanted to play poker. I don't really have any interest in anything else.

They don't seem to have a word of it on there website.

I don't know. I was hoping someone who's worked at a poker room could chime in

If Harrah's Joliet opens a poker room, it will put to rest the misinformed notion, poker rooms don't make money for the joints. A company (Caesars Entertainment), which is losing money, certainly wouldn't be opening a poker room, (for "convenience of customers!"). That room will open, to generate some corporate "earnings".
