So I just finished my first trip to the poker room and overall it was a great experience. I did however notice one thing that I think should be remedied before it causes a problem. Another player accidentally touched the all-in button, and before confirming, cleared his bet. I however, was on the other side of the hand and the software digitally places all their chips on the big screen which made me react. I was thinking that it's essentially like a string bet that you don't get penalized for (and could def. lead to angle shooting). Someone did comment to me after the fact that I should consider it more like counting a gigantic stack of chips out and then checking normally. Thoughts?

I've seen plenty of folks do it as a joke and others do it as part of their process of pondering a big call or move. Certainly, everybody quickly realizes that's a feature of the table so the only folks who might get taken in on it are those who've never played on the table before in the first hour or two of their play. Not a big deal IMO. As you suggest, I would regard it as akin to stacking up your chips as if to call or push and looking to see if your opponent gives off any tells.

Keep the feature, IMO.

In any case, since verbal action is not binding on these tables, folks can always announce all in, say I'm raising, etc to get reactions while doing something completely different. Not angles on these tables, just a feature or side effect of playing at these tables.

Of all the features we put in PokerPro, this one seems to get the most debate.

I agree with you that first time PokerPro players seem to not like this and think it is akin to a string bet. Whereas once they get a few hours at the table, they seem to like it.

I like the feature because with clay chips I can count them out behind the line and get a read on a player. You can do the same thing on PokerPro. Based on all the feedback we have gotten from players, we do have plans in next version of PokerPro to make it more clear to all players that it is NOT a confirmed bet.

But I understand Amoroff's point that the first time you see this at the table, it is a little disconcerting.

Drove up yesterday from Spartanburg, 2hrs.

One of those sessions.

Arrive, have a nice dinner, in the hotel, not the casino, very good.

The poker room has 6/7 tables going, all Hold'em, no PLO8. They open the last table, 1/2 NL; I take a seat.; buy-in for $140. One guy is LA, playin' almost every hand. I have 45s on the button, about seven players limp; I call.
Flop comes 2-3-6 rainbow; yep, I flop a str, it checks around; I check; turn is a K, I bet $10, one caller, the LA guy, river is a 3; he goes all-in; (He had made several over-size bets) I'm thinkin', surely he hasn't made a boat, but I was wrong; he did; he had 2/3. Rebuy.

The last hand: Look down at AA; someone had made it $5; I raise to $20, two callers. Flop, 10-10-2; I push, about $70, one caller. He has 99. Turn is a blank, and yep, the good ole river is a 9! The ole two-outer kicks my butt.

Before the AA hand, had lost another decent size pot, again on the river.

I know this happens, but last night was just a little much. I never won a showdown, not one.

Sorry you had a crappy night. It can be rough at there.

I went out "after the rush" last night. Got there about 12 or 12:30. Got my aces cracked within the first 2 hands. Funny thing is someone else in the hand had KK, and it should have went all in preflop in most cases. 9 10 won the hand with a boat on the turn, I got away from the AA but he didnt get away from the KK.

Thing is, somehow I have become close to immune to this stuff happening. I lost about $100 or so on the hand, and immediately did an add on, like nothing even happened. Worst part was I was sort of beating myself up for betting the turn when the board paired the top card. However, I figured it was best to bet the turn in case there was a draw, and to avoid a call on the river.

I was playing with a couple of large stacks, that were overly agressive with their bet sizes. I knew if I caught a hand against either one, I would get paid. I just waited patiently.

I ended up finishing pretty well, the big stacks paid me off. I ended up being the big stack. I told myself I would leave after a few hours before I got there, so I left at around 2:30. Great session...

Talk about the PokerPro included the option for different color deck for people who want it. I went further and suggested a 4-color deck like internet poker, but I can see why that would never happen.

Also saw someone flop a set last night, and lose when the overpair hit his set on the turn. He banged the outer edge of the big screen pretty hard in frustration.....I wonder if there is an insurance policy on these things somewhere!!

Nice TR.

I know bad-beats are a part of poker, and of course, if 3 or 4 callers are shootin' at Aces; they may be cracked, but last night, got my money in good everytime, post-flop, got rivered everytime. Makes me wonder why I love this game?
( I know in the long-run, that's what we want, but sometimes it's hard to take.)

I agree, it blows. Especially when you are stuck. I've gotten in the hole pretty deep over there at Harrah's, but I believe you always have to have faith. Last week I flopped two pair with K 10 ( i hate K10 and AQ) , and lost my stack to a flopped straight. I just couldn’t fold.

I immediately rebought for the full buy in, and proceeded to getting all of my loses back and leaving in the black. Somewhere there is a poker god smiling when you take a sick beat, and you hit the rebuy button for full amount.

My theory is when I am stuck, is that I have to have almost the full buy-in on the table. For instance, If I am stuck $150, and I only have $125 or so in front of me, even if I double up, I am still going to be stuck $25. However, if I have $275 and double up, well I am out of the hole, and into profit. Also deeper stack play out there punishes the LA players. Not that you played your AA wrong at all (you got someone to call a $70 bet with 99), but what if you had another $125 or so to put in on the turn? Does he call there? Maybe so, that is the risk, but I've found when I cbet, that when i fire the 2nd barrel on the turn, that’s where a lot of people fold.

Just food for thought, you’re a good player so I am sure you do well over the long run. I am always analyzing every freakin thing, and understand if you don’t want to hear any of this crap, especially after a bad night.

Any more PLO8 games get going? It'll be a couple weeks before I can try again, want to know what the best weekend time for PLO8 would be. Saturday night seems to be ruled out unless you call the casino and the game is already going. I'm almost 2 hours drive away.

Most of the hotels around the casino are usually anywhere from $60-$100/night, unless something is "going on". They were double that, when the bike rally was in town.

just an FYI here is a link on the planned expansion at the Casino Resort. Looks pretty cool

http://www.harrahscherokee.com/casin...ng-detail.html
supply for rooms at Harrahs Cherokee will remain constrained until expansion is complete. Expansion is going to be awesome and poker players will get a MUCH improved overall poker experience as part of that expansion, most likely I really dont know, just guessing.

Also some rumors are brewing about Harrah's Cherokee first major Tournament over a few days in Nov or Dec. North Carolina MTT champion might be discovered and crowned. If I am allowed to play, it will be me though so don;t get your hopes up. I suck at cash games but am sort of hard to deal with in MTTs. biggest enemy in those for me is myself. If I dont beat myself then look out. Plus if it wasn't for luck I would win ALL MTTs in North Carolina anyway

Small World. I lived in Matthews for 5 years out off of McKee Rd.

Now I'm in Ft. Mill and have to travel to parts unknown to get a game outside of my weekly Tuesday Night one.

I went to Harrah's Cherokee to check it out, but I'd rather go to AC or Cali when work takes me there.

It does not. It struggles during the week, and I would never count on it running. Usually Friday night, Saturday afternoon into Sat night, and Sun afternoon, you can catch a 2/5 game going, but no guarantees of course.

Last night, it ran for about 6 hours or so, but was struggling. I played in it for about 30 minutes.

Also, you may get some interest for a 5/10 game, but it hasnt happened yet. Probably not till we get the new poker room in a few years. The hardware just isnt there (only 7 tables)

The two times I have visited, I've stayed at the Comfort Suites off of US 441. The prices are very reasonable and the rooms are very nice. The first time I stayed there it was $69 on a random Saturday night, and it was $109 over Memorial Day weekend. It's maybe a 5 minute drive from the casino.

Microtel

About 2 minutes from casino; $78 on Fridays and Saturdays; this includes tax.
Not bad; modern, clean, safe and free munchies, HBO.
