The question, of course, is whether or not they even want to court that portion of the market. Living in the Atlanta area, I'd love to see it happen, but I agree that if they don't get live cards/chips, that is much less likely to happen.
I would also be more willing to make the 2-3 hour drive up there on a regular basis if there were live cards/chips for the games. While I don't mind the poker pro tables, they're not exactly my favorite arena for playing poker.

Re: Harrah's Cherokee (Cherokee, NC) Poker Thread
I agree, but why wouldn't the want 200-500 people staying at or around their casino for tournament series? That would clearly be a poor business decision on their part.
I prefer to 2-3 hrs more and go to casino with live cards. I.E. Horseshoe So. Indiana or Dog track in WV.

Re: Harrah's Cherokee (Cherokee, NC) Poker Thread
It's possible they can have the best of both worlds giving the travelling roadshow nature of the Circuit events, as I believe they bring in their own tables/chips/etc for the events, which would remove the necessity of the casino itself having the equipment. The only downside is how much cash game action they would generate when the people coming in for the circuit realize they have to use the pokerpro tables.
As for driving, I unfortunately don't have that option. It's either 2.5 hrs to Cherokee or 6+ hrs to either Florida or Mississippi if I want casino poker rather than the home/underground games here in town or bar poker.

They use the casino's chips, tables, etc.

Learn something new every day, I suppose. I was going based off of the WSOP-C event in NOLA last year. The tables all appeared to be native to the event rather than the casino, and the same with the chips.
In that case, it does make it a bit more problematic for Cherokee to host such an event, which is disappointing.

Still a decent place to play; many of the better players have moved to FLA after buy-in limits changed. There are advantages to PokerTek Tables; no tokes; no mistakes.'

I would prefer not to use PokerTek tables, but I can deal with any form of poker that doesn't have me playing against the house.

Re: Harrah's Cherokee (Cherokee, NC) Poker Thread
PokerTek = online poker to me IMO.
Of course, I think people "gambool" more when they play them so you can rack up.
I am MTT player so I pray that they get live cards soon....I'll be a fixture there if so.

Re: Harrah's Cherokee (Cherokee, NC) Poker Thread
What is the latest report on this place? How many active tables on weekends? weekdays? Soft, regs, nits? Just a 2 hour drive each way but if the action sucks in general, I probably won't make that time investment.... Thanks -GY
