Greenbrier (West Virginia)

Anyone know if they will have poker?

From http://www.greenbrier.com/site/news-...aspx?cid=2664:

Quote:
Roulette, blackjack, baccarat, craps, three-card poker and Texas hold ‘em will be available for resort guests and members.
Hopefully that doesn't mean the crappy Hold'em Table Game.

It also sounds like the casino will only be open to hotel guests, members of the "Greenbrier Sporting Club", and to people who are there for conventions.

In other words, pretty much the softest casino poker game in the world (if you can get in).

If I was gonna drive to bfe I'd wanna stay the night anyway. They are having a pga event this year, I bet some of the golfers leave a lot at the tables. It may be hard to book a room though.

I live in the area and the only way to play is to be a guest at the hotel.

Can you confirm they have actual Hold'em (not the table game)?

Re: Greenbrier (West Virginia)

It looks like the Greenbrier has clarified this on their webpage that they are only offering table games:
The Casino, with its refined, tasteful décor, will include table games such as craps, roulette, blackjack, baccarat and poker varieties in addition to state-of-the-art slot machines.

Re: Greenbrier (West Virginia)

Update, the website now says this:

Quote:
Take a spin on 320 state-of-the-art slot machines, try your luck at 37 table games including blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat, and three-card poker, or test your skill at our Texas Hold 'Em poker tables.
Anyone have information?

I just spoke with the casino manager. They are only spreading 2/5 nl and "usually" have two tables going on the weekend, beginning Friday at 8PM. $100 min/500 max buy-in. I'm surprised that the game is capped (unless it's WV state regs that force them to do so). Hell, five fun tix ain't even "walkin' around money" for the Greenbrier's guests.

Not sure if it's a state thing, but Mardi Gras(formerly Tri-State) Casino and Wheeling Island have same buyin structure.

Anyone have an update? Going Mid-week mid Feb and wonder if a game will get going?

Re: Greenbrier (West Virginia)

For those of you who dont know, the Greenbrier is a resort which has existed for well over 100 years for the super rich blue bloods of the old East and South. I had no idea they had a casino in there, but I believe the company who used to own them (one of the railroads) sold it a few years ago. It's an uber nice place.

I have a work/golf boondoggle trip up there in early August. Can't wait. Hope the poker tables will still be going strong.

Washington Post ran an article last summer that discusses Greenbrier's poker room in comparison to the newly opened Charles Town WV room--fun read. Clicky

Re: Greenbrier (West Virginia)

Greenbrier is awesome, the poker there kind of boring. Had 2 tables of 2/5 going at around midnight; apparently game gets going around 8 pm. buy-in was 100 min 500 max.

Avg stack was probably around 200-250, saw a lot of limping pre-flop, where mst would fold to a raise pre. In about 2 hours of play, I saw maybe 3 hands get to showdown. Jackets required in casino after 7 pm.

5-6 players at the table knew each other as they were there on a golf weekend - I would imagine this is a common occurrence.

At one point, each table was 6-handed. Making one table a must-move wold have helped a lot.

Rake was 10% up to $5 a hand.

Dealer said that they used to run tournaments but stopped for some reason, but that they may be starting them up again at some point.
