Thx
Graton is probably the best cash games... or down in San Jose the Matrix casino has some pretty wild action in their 3/5 last few times I played there.

The 101 Casino right down the way has good tournaments 5 days a week at 6:30pm, with good structure and good rake.

The Oaks which is in emeryville has decent tournaments and has some pretty good cash depending on where you're going.

I guess it's all about what you want to play, but that's my take on the spots in the bay to play

I'm mostly playing cash, 2/5. Only one table 2/5 when I was there but sounds like the weekends are crazy.

Matrix sounds worth a visit some time, but may not be worth the haul on this trip.

Thanks for the tips!

I'll look into 101 tournaments for grins

Matrix gives you a 2 for 1 since Bay101 is a 5 min drive away.

Also, if you drive from Marin to San Jose (via 280) you pass by another large club, Lucky Chances in Colma.

True, but that's the long way. Shorter to come down 880 (past the Oaks).

If you're willing to travel 2-3 hours, might as well check out Thunder Valley in Sacramento. I have not been there but they host Heartland Poker Tournaments and others have mentioned the poker room is decent.

Weird that they spread up to 50/100 NLHE but they don't even have 20/40 LHE.

What is the status of poker room traffic in this room now? It seemed to have heavy traffic (& long lists) several months ago. Looking at Bravo now (assuming its correct) there is only a handful of tables going with few/no players on lists. 1 2-5NL game and 2 1-3NL...

What happened or is Bravo way off?

The Hold'em bad-beat jackpot hit 3 times in 4 days right right after Easter (on April 21, 23, and 24). Over $700K in jackpot reserves were cleaned out in a span of less than 90 hours. Until the jackpot builds back up to over $100K, most players have stopped going to the Graton.

No casual players want to play LHE above 4/8.

The 6/12 LHE game, whenever it was spread at the Graton, was infested with middle-limit pros (i.e. 15/30 pros from Cal Grand or the Oaks, 20/40 pros from Bay 101). Most casual players don't want anything to do with that table.

Today's casual players either play low-limit LHE (3/6 and 4/8) or NLHE (1-3 blinds.)

Most middle-limit LHE tables generally have 80-90% pros.

There are plenty of casual 6/12 and 8/16 LHE players in south bay. If there were really "pros" playing in the Graton 6/12, they were just there visiting. No pro is going to travel all the way up there to make 12 bucks an hour.

The middle-limit "pros" from Cal Grand, Oaks, and Bay 101 were playing 4/8 (and 6/12 on rare occasions) at the Graton when the Hold'em Jackpot exceeded $300K. The 4/8 games at the Graton were infested with pros as well during that period.

Bottom line: you won't see those jackpot hunters at the Graton until October at the earliest, assuming that the jackpot doesn't hit by then.

In the meantime, players in the area are playing elsewhere. Graton is now a ghost town 5 nights a week.

Okay, but that shouldn't prevent casual players from play 6/12 or 8/16 now.

How does this place compare to River Rock in terms of traffic and quality of venue?

Does anyone know the general rake structure for nlhe at Graton? I know they have a 'no flop no drop' policy with $4 raked on the flop for 1/3, but I neglected to see if they rake again on the turn and/or river.

Incidently, my first session went terribly. I ran kings into aces twice and had aces cracked by AKo. Good times.

$4 drop and $1 jackpot for all games except in the biggest games who don't do the jackpot dollar.

So what if the jackpot hits on one of those tables? Are they not entitled to the payouts?

No, and they do it by choice.

They understand the effect a single dollar per hand has on the game, and when they compare that to the longshot odds of a jackpot, they prefer to protect the game.

Any regs/local players at Graton or 101 Casino interested in live poker discussion group? 2+2 is fantastic but any other outlet is good too.

I heard they hosted a tournament a few months ago but haven't had one since. Anyone know if they're planning on running another one soon?
