Very perceptive- have only been once, and played 4-8 for about 30 minutes, but this is accurate. 1-2 is normal, 4-8 Omaha is loose. See you there Sunday.

btw- looking at Bravo, right now Sat.night 900pm-
All 18 tables booked.
The waitlist:

1-3 NL HOLDEM 78
2-5 PL OMAHA 19
2-5 NL HOLDEM 48
3-6 HOLDEM 86
4-8 HOLDEM KILL 62
4-8 OMAHA H/L 20
5-10 MIXED 2
6-12 HOLDEM 41
8-16 HOLDEM 11
10-20 NL HOLDEM 4
15-30 HOLDEM 6
20-40 NL HOLDEM 1

Yeah, i would say its a new era in Sonoma County poker.

One thing I observed is there tables are set up to hold 10 players but they are running there games 9 handed. Seems like 10 would be a good idea given the number of people looking to play and the 30 min lobby time they allow players.

Wow, 80 people on the waitlist. I've never seen anything like it.

This is a recurrent theme among the players at the table. My feeling is that the chairs are a bit too wide to circle ten of them. They are very comfortable, and although ten-handed, the tables are smallish for ten cupholders. Nine seems about right give the chair/table size.

I've seen them going several times. They also have a mixed game sometimes: holdem and PLO, maybe somebody who has played it can tell you more.

I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke, but I've only smelled it a couple of times in the poker room when somebody was standing right on the threshold with a cigarette. The slot area around the poker room is smoke free so it's really not a problem.

One problem that a lot of people are talking about is the noise level, and the bigger games tend to be toward the back of the room where the noise is much less than up front.

Noise I can deal with but smoke would be an issue. What is your idea of "bigger" games. 2/5NL, 5/5PLO, 5/10NL?

How soft is PLO? Is the average player in that game someone who has a moderate understanding of strat or someone who's like "**** yeah 4 cards time to GAMBOLLLLL" ? I'm curious if that game would be worth playing for a typical online-trained NLHE player with good enough poker fundamentals to not be a ****** in Omaha.

Check Bravo to see what games are being played, or review this thread, it's pretty consistent day to day with more games on the weekend and 10/20 nl holdem being the biggest so far.

Why not play PLO online first?

Played this morning and lists were long for most common limits. Problems starting games arose from a dealer shortage. Yes it was raining, but I'm thinking that like us, they are still trying to determine exactly what kind of poker community with which they will be dealing.

They are starting a 2-5 plo game right now and if nlh skill is any determinate in players abilities, the old timers and 101 regs in the game are pretty terrible. If u can beat .10/.25 nlh online u can probably clean up in most nights plo lineup.

Full house with 18 games going, and they have a 10/25 nl game going tonight. I was playing at the table next to it and heard a fuss so I went over and looked and there was a mountain of cash and $100 chips in the pot, and one guy bets $9,700 on the turn, the other guy counts out $9,700 in cash, then folds. I doubt there have ever been games this big in Sonoma County. I also heard that a guy won $70,000 in the 2/5 PLO game last week, busting 6 players to do it.

They've turned down the volume in the adjacent slot area and they're improving working the board, so the atmosphere is more relaxed.

I've been having a good time here. The room's been attracting people from all over, even south bay. it's great to not be stuck with the same old 101 regulars. I think you can sign up for the list from the kiosk on the wall if you don't call in.

i played at graton earlier this week on a weeknight and the room seemed to be running fairly well considering it is brand new. the tables are bit oddly shaped, but fine. one thing i found strange was the rule that you could buy up to the big stack at 1/3nl. never seen that before in a low limit game.

anyway, action was good atmosphere was enjoyable. i didn't really notice the sound of the slots but maybe i'm immune.

also, wondered this aloud while i was there: as of last tuesday, i might be the only person on earth who has played in the poker rooms at both Graton and Maryland Live (which opened up about 2-3 months ago). my new claim to fame.

A dealer enforced the chips in the pot stay in the pot rule. Usually if you don't realize there's a raise and just call the previous bet you're allowed to take your chips back and fold. Apparently not here so be careful.

Sorry
Beat you to it
Had a vacation to Northern California and work in MD, so I hit both by November 14
Did PLO go while you were at graton?
The PLO at MDL was great.

I'm glad to see it. So many players, especially in Sonoma County, seem to think the dealer's job is to babysit them at the table. They don't allow short buys either, and they pick up players routinely who are gone longer than 30 minutes.

Great room, but a few critiques:

Turn the A/C down, I know it's better than it being too hot but it's a tundra!

Smaller picture cards, keep the bigger ones for stud games.

Do something about the noise.

Coffee/ water station would be nice.
