$8 rake. wait is long if you go fri/sat nights. you can call in an hour before and that helps a lot. if you go during the day when they're opening games it doesn't take too long.

good action in both the 1/2 and 2/5 games. staff seemed competent.

$8 sounds high. But with gas soooo high its better than driving to Aurora. And I think Aurora only has limit games except on sunday.

Wrong. Aurora has limit games as well as 1-2NL every day. Rake sucks at both Casinos though.

Aurora is 8+1 at the NL tables and 6+1 at the limit tables. The 1-2 runs everyday.

They added a 7th table Friday night. This weekend they had 3 2-5 nl games 3 1-2 and a 5-10. Last night they had 4 2-5 games going and the rest of the tables 1-2. The staff at night is better than the staff during the day with 2 exceptional dealers and the rest average with only one 'bad' one. The Comps aren't as juicy as the Indiana casinos and the rake is high but its a Poker Room headed in the right direction with 2 more tables to be added before July and talk of a BBJ finally..

Everytime I play poker at this casino, I vow to never go back. Its tough having lived in Vegas to go to a poker room like this. In terms of a quality poker room and an enjoyable poker experience, the Horseshoe in Hammond is the way to go. That being said, if you live in the NW suburbs there aren't many good options if you don't want to drive to Hammond. I do end up playing here about twice a month and do so quite profitably.
If the games weren't so soft, I would never play here. Its not really a poker room, more like a poker corner. The poker front desk girl always seams rude and incompetent. The wait can be anywhere from 2-5 hours. There aren't many tables and most people don't leave. There isn't anything to do while you wait that isn't extremely -EV as the whole casino destroys. The town of Elgin is shady/smelly. I wouldn't recommend venturing too far off the property.
The rake is insane. The comps are pathetic. The drinks are costly. There is no eye candy. Its sometimes hot. I hear some people complain of motion sickness. All you can hear is the loud noise of slots nearby. Some of the poker room rules are crazy (no gum?). The poker room manager (I always think his name is Joe, but I think that is because he reminds me of someone I know) has no clue what he is doing or how to run a poker room. The dealers are ok at least. Did I mention the rake is insane? I always leave this casino thinking that they have no respect for poker players.

Lol, I didn't realize your post said you were right down the street. Never mind my Elgin is shady/smelly opinion.

Also, the aforementioned 2-5 hour wait list time is obv. during their busier times at night/weekend. I'm sure the wait is considerably less/zero on a monday morning.

Yesterday I have made a final decision to never play at Grand Victoria Elgin again. I am a professional 1/2 grinder in Chicago and I mix it up between going to Horseshoe and GVC.

Elgin: Horrible rules... You can't talk during a hand, no hats, sunglasses, hoodies, gum. You can't even look at your phone. the rules over there are soooo ****ed up.

Most of the dealers suck (with the exception of a couple really good ones)

The rake is ridiculous ($8) and the wait is usually about an hour long! (2-3 hours on the weekend)

The buy in for 2/5 is a max of 300.... thats only 60 big blinds lol. and half the people at the 2/5 tables are sitting with 50 bucks in front of them... and if they lose they rebuy for 50 or 100. Its a big joke. The max buy in for 5/10 is only 600 and half the table only buys in for 200...... (the 5/10 is almost never running maybe once or twice a month)

The only good thing i can ever say about Elgin is the action. The players are sooooo bad its not even funny, most of whom are old guys over the age of 60 with a lot of money who live in Chicago suburbs.

Aurora is by far the worst place to go.

Horseshoe is the best casino within 1,000 miles of Chicago, and is in my opinion one of the best poker rooms in the country. A+ staff A+ dealers A+ room and environment. Totally worth the drive.

yeah i think Leo is the best one there and right behind him is Lilly. I would put a couple dealers above Sean not saying hes a bad dealer just he talks alot on the game. thats my opinion.

Do you play 1-2 or 2-5 @ Elgin? ... Leo is a very good dealer, cracks me up, really funny and keeps the game a little loose. Lilly I think is the fastest and definitely keeps the action moving at a good pace.

Anytime. After reading all the comments I would be surprised if those who mentioned names didn't get a penalty from this site. I know I did. Regarding the poker room comments: Dead on accurate. It's just not a fun place to play, but when one gets the poker urge and the place is only 20 minutes away.....

On saturday theres usually two 1-2 games at 8:30 a.m. The first 2-5 kicks off within the next hour.
The buy in for 2-5 is $100 min $300 max.
