FYI - The Grand Falls Casino Resort in the far northwest corner of Iowa opened June 9th. The casino is located about 8 miles east of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, just across the state line in Iowa and contains an eight-table poker room. I'd guess most people in the region are aware of the new casino, however, if you’re passing through the area on your way to Sturgis or something else and looking for a place to play poker, you may want to give it a try.

Games are typically 1-2 No-Limit, 2-5 No-Limit, 3-6 Limit and the occasional 2-10 spread Omaha 8 or better High/Low Split. If the table agrees, they will add a kill.

GFC Poker Room

I'm hoping someone will post a report on their impressions of the new poker room. I called in a week or so ago and talked to someone in the poker room (Amy?), and while I got the answers to some questions, I wasn't exactly wowed by the conversation.

Sounds like they've been mostly running 1/2NL and 2/5NL (buyins 50xSB to 100xBB). Also running some Omaha, and I guess they're trying to get a regular stud game going on Wednesday nites, and possibly stud8 on Saturdays (seems unlikely?). She said the poker room is open 24/7, but then she later said something about opening up at 9-11am, and I never got a straight answer. Playing comp is only 50 cents an hour, and the only promotion is a bad beat jackpot. Tournaments begin 7/18/11, so the first Saturday tournament will be July 23rd. Weekly tournament list The tournaments are probably going to be capped at 70 players (though alternates will be taken) to save at least 1 table for cash games at all times.

That's about all I found out since the conversation was chopped up by being put on hold for long periods, multiple times (and even the responses I got usually took coaxing). If anyone can, I hope you'll give better information on the details of the room, as well as providing us a sense of what it's like (general thoughts on the amount/quality of players so far, the competency of the dealers/staff, etc).

Card room is poorly run by a bunch of amatuers and they can't figure out why they can't fill up an 8 table room in an area with 250,000 person population. It wouldn't matter if they ran a good card room but the food would be horrible even if it wasn't overpriced.

Anyone play any of the grands falls casino tournaments in larchwood? Just moved back to the midwest and thinking about going and playing if there is a decent tournament. How about the cash games? I know there was a post a little over a year ago just seeing if anyone has any updates.

I still haven't bothered to make it over there to check it out as I've consistently heard bad reviews from other players.

I think I might go there in Saturday and play the $60 dollar tourney. They are also having a 100,000 guarantee in August and doing satellites for it so I might try and win a seat that way. Ill let you know how it is.

My mom lives in Sioux Falls so I get back there about once a year. I've played in this room 3-4 times, all cash games (1/2). Pretty tight regs., but social and fun. A lot of min buyins so don't expect to make a ton of money. The waiting list for a seat was a pager the last time I was there so I felt like I was waiting for my table at Outback... Not a bad idea I guess, you don't have to stay within earshot of the room to get your seat. Haven't played any tournaments there, haven't had the time. I'd be curious to see what you have to say about them.

Heading to Sioux Falls over Easter, is there anybody who has played poker here recently? How has the action been? Has there been any?

Thanks for any feedback.

Was there a month ago. Action was good. They get two 2/5NL games going on Friday by 1pm I think - $500 max buy. Good games too. Otherwise there's always a 1/2NL game to jump in I think - $200 max buy.

I played there over Christmas, my wife's family lives right up the street. I asked about the 2/5 and they said it only runs on Friday.
