Wanted to play plo tourney, couldn't because of commitment today. Structure sheet said 2 day event. Looks like they finished last night. The wonder of it all! Probably saved myself $365.

What can we expect from Foxwoods once the Mass. casinos are up and running as well as the new poker room in RI? I've also heard of thought being given to a new CT.casino south of Springfield, and another in northern Jersey. What should they do to keep their piece of the poker pie?

Northern NJ - Wut?

The plan is to open as many as three facilities: one in the Hartford-Enfield corridor, near Bridgepot, and near Danbury.

Small. Probably not, but details like that are not a big concern right now.

So, whatever comes, can we expect cheaper food, room rates, rake, etc? There seems to be a lot of competition on the near horizon. What's in the works for New York City? I know they have some type of casinos there already, but do they have full casino action with poker? If not, I'll bet it's only a matter of time until they do.

In short: no, no, and no.

Casino expansion has not lowered the rake. In fact, virtually all new poker rooms have higher rake. It is only a matter of time before NV casinos raise their rake as well.

New York city has a "racino". It offers video lottery terminal gaming. The games might look like slot machines, video poker machines, or even table games. But they are instant lotteries. The results are determined by computers in Albany, and they are regulated by the state lottery division. Poker does not qualify as a lottery game.

The most recent casino expansion bill passed here permits full fledged casinos that are allowed to have poker in certain areas of the state. But no casino in New York city. It can't happen here. The city is already massively overcrowded - there is no place to put a casino. Eventually, Long Island and/or Westchester may get a casino. But that can't apply for a license until at least five years after they build the one in the Catskills (which is not gonna have poker).

[QUOTE=TheDarkElf;47905266]Northern NJ - Wut?

There have been talks to turn the vacant (and very ugly) Xanadu project in the Meadowlands into a part or whole casino. Now while it might have its detractors like the NFL. Gov Chris Christie has given the green light for this to move forward in June. While there is still a lot to work out. There are many people in the know who think that this is happening.

The referendum to permit casinos in Norhern NJ will not be on the ballot this year. AC is not satisfied with what the northern developers are offering. Nothing is gonna happen this year.

Next year, maybe, but it is a presidential election year - the fat boy might be busy with other things.

And even if Meadowlans/Xanadu works out, what makes you think a CT tribal gaming facility would be part of it?

Competition is always a good thing for the player. Expect more free weekday room options (as more will be available) and more aggressive promos. Look at the "promo war" going on in Maryland with Live! running $1k High Hands every 20 minutes each weekday for the past two weeks to get a taste of what competition can do.

Is Maryland Live funding the 1K high hand "promo" out of their own pocket?

No it comes from the jackpot drop, which just increased from $1 to $2.
