They have all kinds of promotions going, including rating Tournament play the same as Cash, increased points/comps per hour, etc. But nothing seems to be working. Barely had enough for 1 table in a midday guaranteed tournament. Hopefully people get tired of the long waits to play at MD Live and start migrating back to Dover. Its a shame, its a very nice room.
I play at Dover, Delaware Park & Maryland Live. The waits at Maryland Live aren't long unless you go there on a Friday or Saturday night (prime time hours). Dover has always only had from 1 to 3 tables running each time I have been there, usually 1/2NL, 2/4L and maybe 2/5NL. Yes the room is nice but as you said they have no Bravo so you either have to call or take your chance when you drive there that you can get on one of the 3 tables. As far as tournaments go Delaware Park has the best daily tournaments in the way of decent buy-ins and starting stack and structure.

I think Dover needs to get the Bravo system so players can see the games running and for room information in general, but I doubt they will because Bravo costs money monthly. I would also like to see other games spread there such as maybe a spread limit 7 card stud game, pineapple, and crazy pineapple. Another reason players continue to go to Maryland Live is because of the variety of games spread there.

played here last night.. staff was friendly as usual.. but i noticed they have a march madness promo. high hand and splash pots during the game and something to do with the teams winning games as well. i love the promotions here it stuns me they aren't busier than del park. and something i will never understand is why anyone goes to harrington when dover is 20 mins down the road and has better promos.

Can anyone please update how "busy" this room is? I don't get to play too much live but I will be in the area on Thursday 8/7/14 and would like to know any info that anyone can provide. Thanks.

It is generally pretty empty during the week. There are usually very small buy in tournaments at 11:15 and 7:15 (buy ins depend on the day but usually 35-60 with a 10 dollar dealer add on that is worth doing). These tourneys generally draw about 20-30 for the afternoon and 40-50 for the evening, the players are almost all regulars and mostly not that good. The structures tend to be decent for low buy in tourneys.

There are usually one or two 1-2 games going during the day, and that tends to go up to 3-4 at night (more on weekends or it they have promotions.)

I found myself in Dover with a few hours to kill so I decided to platy some pokers.

No Bravo system so I called to ensure a game was going. Friendly floor person answers in the affirmative, so I head to the casino.

When I arrive I figure I'll get a player card in the odd chance that they have goodies for new players. Turns out they do - $25 in free slot play (if I get 6 points) and a mailer with a free room, more slot dollars, food comp and valet for 8 points. i don't figure that poker will net me much but I get my card anyway.

The room was big but empty with one short-handed tournament table wrapping up by the cage and a single $1/2 table near the front. I drop my card and get chips but realize when I get back that the floor person has to swipe me in, not the dealer.

Table is filled with mostly older people, friendly for the most part, typical passive play with lots of pre-flop limping and no really big stacks.

I played a couple hours, winning $25 overall. I found out that poker gets you 4 points an hour so I thought I qualified for everything and I did. I played around on the slot machine nearest the rewards center, getting it up and then backl down to $25 which I cashed out netting me a $50 profit with the promise of a free hotel room down the road.

I liked the staff and the room was nice. I like the cheap weekday poker rate ($29).

I didn't like the lack of shufflers in the tables or the lack of a Bravo.

I'll be back for my free room and maybe play a tourney.

Anyone planning on playing the $500 tournament next Saturday aug 30th
I heard it is no rake. Does anyone know if this usually sells out. Any details would be appreciated.

I will be there. Actually I will be there all weekend because of the special they are offering on the rooms.
I don't think it sells out because they bring in additional tables. I played in the last three championships and never had any problems. I think Last year there were 200-250 players...no one had to wait

It is true that this tournament has no rake but so do all the tournaments for the four days. $20K on Friday no rake; $100K on Sat with no rake and $10K on Sunday with no rake...I think there is also a $35 buy-in on Monday (Labor Day) with no rake and a $3500 guarantee...not sure if I will play that one or not

I have a friend coming in from the Boston area and we are going to play until we have had enough

Hope this helps

I will have vacation in the area for four days and plan to check the place out. Which night has more action in general among Sun, Mon, and Tue? Or they are all the same?

I played last Monday, and there was only 1 table running (1/2 NL), but it was a great table. One player was driving a lot of the action, and everyone at the table was having fun playing cards, whether they were winning or losing.

It's crazy that poker nets you 4 points per hour, considering it takes $90 slot play to generate 1 point.

If you weren't playing poker, it would take $360 of slot coin-in to "earn" the $25 in free play.

How many runners for last nights event (Friday)?

257 runners for the 100k guarantee on saturday with no rake, although there was the $20 dealer toke for 10k in chips. This is completely fair IMO.

It is fair except they do not know how to run a tournament.

I made my first trip to the room for the September first $35 no rake tourney. I grade this room as A- for a small poker room. I can't compare it to Borgata of ML.

The no rake special was fantastic. I would not have made the trip if they did not do this. I drive past the DP entrance, then travel another hour to get to Dover Downs. 202 entries makes for a tourney worth playing.

I felt the TDs did a good job. They were not super vigilant at balancing tables, but were within TDA rules. No issues on ruling.

They offer a surrender a few minutes before re-entries end. I prefer this is not be option. The surrendered chips coming out of play, therefore the board does not show number of chips in play and average stack size. I prefer to have this information on the board.

The regulars in the room seem to be having a lot more fun than your average small room. OMC is out numbered. I believe in Caro's saying that the profitable tables is where the laughter is.

The BBJ for tourney players is a huge plus. Overall the room does a great job on bonuses.

I'll be looking for more special event tourneys for this room for my next trip. When a non-NHLE cash game is playing please PM me.

Made my second trip to the room for the $199 entry $25K GPP tourney. The structure was fantastic. There was still playable stacks ay the FT.

This tourney is comparable to Delaware Park's $340 tourney, but $141 cheaper.

If they run this monthly I will be there. Although I am a fan of DP, Dover Downs is better at tourneys.

Hello. The wife and I are coming out tomorrow for the 11:15 tournament and then we have a room so I'll be back in the evening for some $1/2.

I know the room is kinda slow... How many runners can we expect for the tournament and will a cash game go into the night or probably end quickly on a Monday?

Nice little toruney event coming at the end of April. I am tempted to make the drive to play the HOS. HOS ran earlier this month. How many runners did it draw?

Free seminar looks good also.

Trip Report

I played the HOS tourney in the Masters of Poker series on April 29th. With a $10K guarantee there was a $3,800 overlay. I was happy to make the final table with a nice chop cut.

Typical with Dover Downs there was something quirky. The mix was NL Holdem, NL Omaha, and Fixed Limit Stud. Holdem and Omaha played with an ante. Many people were expecting a fixed limit tourney, including myself.

Past the small room quirkiness and a few dealers not being up to speed on stud, I love going to this room. The TDs are very good for a small room. The regs and staff are super friendly.

I was on the table with Kenna James. I talked his ear off including one break. Super good guy. I will be going to the seminar today and look forward to hearing from all the pros.

My biggest disappointment was I didn't get to play Omaha with TJ Cloutier; hopefully at today's PLO tourney.

I recommend you check the schedule for this Masters Series. There could be some more overlays.
