I agree with a lot of these sentiments. Hopefully, the market is going to work the way that it should, and in the fight to retain market share, the AC casinos will offer more incentives for players to make these long drives. It would be nice to see hotel rates decline and comps increase. It bothers me that I make regular treks (at least a couples times a month on average) to AC to play cards, but I can't possibly log enough hours in the poker room to earn the small privileges associated with a Black Label card at the Borgata.
With the increased competition, maybe we'll even see something innovative for the area. In a crowded Las Vegas market, the Hard Rock created its "Poker Lounge," an atypical room with (supposedly) better drink service, tournaments with celebrity appearances, and action games (like "Trash Talking Tuesdays"). I'd stop short of saying that what the Hard Rock did has set any new standards for poker rooms, but I really applaud the effort to do something different.
So here's hoping that DP, Harrah's Chester, parx, and whatever casino finally gets built in Philadelphia combine to make this area a player's market for poker. The long waits at DP's new room demonstrate that the demand is here and the opportunities are great.
