I know they had flaws in cards at the WSOP this year. When the light on the ESPN stage hit them, some cards were identifiable. I think they even moved a final table to an outer table because of it.

If you feel something is up with them, you should talk to the floor again. If it wound up being the shufflers they could always hand shuffle. If it were alot of decks of cards, they'd have to order more. Nothing wrong with being diligent.

I posted this in the CT thread a little while back when a player there had a similar concern. Maybe you'll find it helpful.

I too have been in the position of notifying the floor of the marks because I thought they were unique to a particular suit/rank/etc., but when I continued to observe the cards I noticed that the distribution was wider than I had expected and the marks were almost always in the middle of the cards.

Anecdotally, think of it this way: what player is going to...

(1) cheat at 1/2 NLHE;
(2) cheat in a way that is so easily recognizable to other players, e.g., marking the backs of cards; and
(3) cheat by marking the middle of the cards in a similar fashion across all cards of a similar suit?

Again, I stress that I do not think that you are lying or trying to be misleading at all. I'm merely asserting that it's my opinion that if you get a bigger sample size, you might find that you observe this phenomenon on a broader basis and that your observations then might allay your concerns that cheating is occurring.

Good luck on the felt if you're out there again today.
Hopefully it is just the shuffle machines that are creating the marks.

Once I saw one on the new deck and knew nobody at my table was doing anything, I didn't want to be too alarmist. I always want to walk the line between been vigilant and making it obvious to everyone that I'm the experienced guy who notices small marks on cards.

Yeah, once I saw them on a few others it seemed like it was just the machines... It's still something that COULD be exploited, but it is comforting that it's not someone doing something. Still, we should all keep an eye on it and let the floors know if it gets too bad.

Maybe they just need to clean the machines or something?

Re: Delaware Park (Wilmington, DE)

Early @ the start, DP machines munged cards pretty bad. Dents, etc. The latest marks you're talking about look like someone rubbed it with an eraser. It's definitely shuffler machine marks. I had a discussion with my neighbor and we were playing, "guess if the card looks marked" and we couldn't tell from adjoining seats. You need the perfect light to see it and it's very unlikely you can see it on someone else cards. Esp if you are a card caver with big, ham hands.

Re: Delaware Park (Wilmington, DE)

The machines have been doing that to the cards as far back as I can remember. Usually if a card gets really bad just ask for it to be replaced. i.e. it has what looks like 2 apparent creases about 1/3 of the way in from each edge.

I haven't noticed anything that looks like eraser marks, but I've also mostly been playing tourneys in the tournament room lately and they're not using the machines over there.

Yeah - they were pretty bad early on. I remember they even turned off the shuffling machines for a few nights to investigate. It got better, but it's never really gone away. I see the kind of marks your're talking about all the time, and I just mark it down to the machines and don't worry about it.

Re: Delaware Park (Wilmington, DE)

They also switched deck brands a while back, and believe the current ones are thinner. If so, wouldnt be surprised if they are more susceptible to stress wrinkles when the machine grinds away on them. Plus the tables often have crumbs, flecks, that fall into the shuffler when they get opened, which then get mashed onto the cards, making some of them look 'marked'. I've seen little brownie crumbs, and other smallish debris pressed on the fronts or backs of cards. I've also noticed these stress lines on cards but don't think they are really usable as deliberate marks as they are way too subtle to notice from another player's seat. A card cover also reduces impact of these irregularities.

Playing tonight's 10 pm DST and tomorrow's 9 am juicy sat. Can meet for a hello if any of you are going to be in the room.

I was told that the Classic would start towards the middle/end of March and run about two weeks. The details have been approved, but I have not seen a schedule. I expect advertising to begin soon.

Hopefully some of the non-holdem events will be on the weekend or Friday nite.

chopped in the 4 pm today. 8 way chop for 587 each

When we hit the final table I drew the 1 seat. I was told to slide my chips there from my 3 seat. I did. Then I got up to talk to my girlfriend

The 2 seat had to move to the 5. He was pushing his chips there. Apparently the dealer wanted to help and inadvertently pushed my chips there

I came back. "Um where r my chips". I called the floor. I knew my approximate chip count. They had to check the tapes. Took a good 15 minutes but they were able to identify 2 of my 3 stacks and said my 3rd was all yellow and about the same size. I counted and it was about what I thought I had so we played on

They handled it well. I stayed calm because I trusted the floor person that was taking care of it.

After all that I was pretty happy with the chop 40 minutes later

Re: Delaware Park (Wilmington, DE)

Metsfan - I played w you - you were in the burgundy shirt right? I was the mirrored shades guy who cashed at 11 when I went ace-rag vs the 1 seat. Too bad about the chip glitch - similar to what happened to me a while back and the floor fixed it by going to the tape - floor team very courteous and get the right decision. Congrats on the 8 way.

People laugh when I snap a picture of my chip stack at break on my phone, but I've seen and heard of this stuff happening often enough to make the five second of work worth it. A timestamped picture in that scenario would help imo. Congrats on the chop and glad they got it worked out for you.
