NL:
2/3 $12 cap no time $100-300bi
2/5 $10 cap+ $10/hr. $500bi unsure about min. This game plays much bigger than 2/3- rarely get ratholers. 2/3 is full of ratholer reg fish.

Bigger games get up very rarely.I still don't understand the reasoning behind this..

Also interested to know about home games.

forget about Crown, just got back to Melb briefly and took a look at the 'high limit area', what a fkn joke, one 2/5 table everyone looking sad and NO BIG STACKS, and one 5/10 table with a bunch of live reg fish all pretty content getting their 'free sandwich dinner' provided by crown and feeling as if they are ballin' it up because of the free food... lol it costs Crown what, a few bucks to provide that while each one of these 5/10 guys(terrible players btw) pays $25ph in rake sitting there for 10 hours playing against other regs... no table selection, terrible dealers, not even a floorman in the high limit area since there's no action at all.

So not even worth me staying for a couple of weeks before heading to WSOP.. hence I just got a ticket OUT of melb after touching down just a few days ago... lol Crown you've killed the cash game in melb and im not going to give you a single dollar of rake for your ****ty poker room!!!

What's the deal with the 1/2 game? Do they allow a 100bb buy in yet? Ans what about those electronic machines? Do they still have them and are they worth playing drunks on?

The 1/2 Game allows a buy in of 150$ (until a few weeks ago it was only 120$). Rake is 10% as well and capped at ridicilous 15$

They still have that electronic machines. Those are mainly played at Friday/Saturday night. I have played these tales only once long time ago and at that time it was certainly not worth it since a lot of people would only put 20$ in...and then there is 10% rake (capped at 6$ or something)...even preflop rake was taken...

Even the people Friday Saturday night are probably amazingly bad and drunk, you still cant win much, since they bring only 20$ to the table and the rake is so high...so forgett about those electronic tables

Just curious did you ever play the bigger games?

I played the bigger games for a few years and I think it's pretty clear why they don't run anymore.

No I didnt.. Besides the standard crown organizational issues what stops 5/5 and up from running more often? Im not referring to nosebleed just mid-high stakes..
Agree about 2/5 on weekdays. I was there today wednesday on public holiday and didn't even bother sitting. There's still money to be made from the regs but I think 2/3 is more profitable weekdays..

Can you bring headphones to the tables at Crown or is this frowned upon/not allowed, and are the tournaments fishy for the most part or quite solid?

Yes, if headphones are your thing, you can bring them and use them at the tables at Crown.

Are the tournaments fishy? Definitely. But all the weekly tournies quickly become shovefests with short levels and poor structures. Being lucky is MUCH more important that being good in these tournies.

Good luck,
DD

Hey can someone repost the current rake? Is the structure in the OP still accurate? do 2/5, 5/5, and 5/10 games still run and how often? Thanks.

5/10 and 5/5 weekends and friday night...2/5 only one table during weekdays which is just nitty ... 2/3 is easily profitable, and 5/5 is the best game when it gets up

They seem to struggle to get 5/5 and up running these days.. Need aussie millions or some other big donkathon to be on.

Does anyone have a live graph (poker journal etc) of 2/3 and up they wanna share?

This isn't quite right. At the moment:
  • Two 2/5 table weekdays, three or four on weekends
  • One 5/10 table on Wednesdays, occasionally on weekends
  • No 5/5

On 5/10 there is a $25 time charge with no rake. On 2/5 rake is 10% capped at $10, no rake on pots under $50, with $10 time charge per hour. On 2/3 rake is 10% capped at $8 during the week, with a $5 time charge; on weekends 2/3 rake is 10% capped at $12 with NO time charge.

Are there any regs here 2/3-2/5?? I'm trying to get in around 15-20 hrs/week. Work 40hrs so depends.. Last 4 months have run good at 2/5 but bad/average at 2/3.
Stupid externall hd died so only have 4months of data from my phone..
On another note what is with all the dealers/sups quitting lately? A whole heap of them are either playing or loitering around.

2/3

2/5

Hey all,

I am new to the Melbourne area, will be living here for about a year with work. Interested in playing a 5/10 NL game, but I'm a little discouraged by what I'm reading here about the sups and rake (although if it's true that it's just $25/hr from 5/10, not a huge deal).

Anyway, would like to find out where I can find a home game that runs these stakes. If you are a Melbourne reg could you PM me?

PS - I know this may seem strange given my lack of post history, but I forgot the pass to my other account ("BPL"). If you are uncomfortable giving home game locations without other history, I'd be happy to meet up at the Crown for a session or to just grab a beer. Really just looking for a decent game.

What phone software is that?

I'd noticed some sups had quit and were playing, such as hippie Dave. One of them, Josh, short guy, good bloke, is running a cupcake franchise with his gf out at Highpoint Shopping Centre.

Hi guys

Im heading over from Perth for the footy and APPT in a few weeks. I have an account at Burswood here and am looking to see if I can wire money from this account to an account at Crown (Im assuming you have them there since its all owned by the same people, you know the type not a lockbox but a cash deposit/withdrawal system).

Has anyone tried to send money from Perth to Melbourne, or vice versa, or is it just easier to bring over cash or do it through the banks etc...

Thanks

Ash

RE: The beatability or non-beatability of games with high rake structures.

While the rake in Australian games is higher then their American counterparts, you have to remember that the level of skill within the games changes too.

Obviously if you took an Aria or Bellagio 5/10 game and told them to pay 10% capped at a billion they would tell you to shove it, but it isnt those kind of lineups in Australian games.

Almost everyone with half a clue plays online, so I know I dont have to worry about anyone actually good playing either in Melbourne or Perth. Its straightforward and boring, but anyone claiming that 2/3 or 2/5 is unbeatable haven't played in the games.

I dont want to get into exact numbers, but currently I have approximately a $35ph winrate over ~1800hrs in a 2/5 500max 10% capped at $15.

Before that game was spread it was a 2/3 10% capped at $10/$12 200 max that I was beating for just over $20 over around a 2000hr sample.

Im not claiming to be Gods gift to poker, but really beating the games in Australia isn't THAT hard, particularly if you are not playing full time and getting 25hrs in on a weekend vs 45 hrs 9-5 midweek.
