Hi Jaycee - are you a representative of Crown Poker?

Just wondering if you know how the cash games change during December/January period due to Aussie Millions? i.e. when will the 5/10, 10/20 games be introduced prior to AM?

Hi Kiwihaze!
Unfortunately I'm not a representative of Crown Poker. I'm merely a semi-regular NLHE player at $1/$2 and $1/$3 who's excited that the $1/$3 buyin structure has (finally!) been fixed.
I'm afraid I'm not exactly sure when $5/$10 and $10/$20 games will be introduced at Crown prior to the Aussie Millions. However, if I'm not mistaken, such games may be offered during the Joe Hachem Poker Challenge in August.

Long shot but are there any Crown dealers or supervisors on here? I'm a tournament dealer in the US and would love to head down there to work an APPT or Aussie Millions but I'm having trouble getting info on how they staff them. Do they bring in temp dealers for this? Shoot me a PM if you don't want to post publicly.

I believe they use the dealers who work throughout the year, the may bring in dealers from other sections of the casino aswell (table games mostly).

The aussie millions isn't anywhere near as big as the WSOP so the need to fly in/staff extra's isn't generally required from what I understand.

Possibly best messaging Crown Poker Facebook page.

its really easy to get hired at crown. they employ a total of 7000 people and the turnover is really high. worse case - you would need to complete a 6 week training course(like anyone else) to be a poker dealer, but they will likely wave this if you can demonstrate proficiency.

btw you cant play if work for the casino.

Thanks - I'm not looking to move there and get a regular job, just work during the tournament if that's an option. It's a pretty common thing here in the US but might not be there because there are only a few big tournaments a year.

I know dealers who work tournaments in Ireland, Prague, and elsewhere as a sort of working vacation.

Are there many 2/4 tables throughout the week?

How about 2/5 or 5/5?

Thanks

Hi ZwebackHD!
The $2/$4 tables at Crown have recently been replaced by the new $2/$5 tables. The $2/$5 games are among the most popular at Crown, and there's almost always at least one table playing at any time. On weekends there's usually about a dozen tables playing, give or take a few. The $5/$5 games are significantly less popular, with only one or two tables playing on weekends, let alone during the week.
You're welcome!

Hi everybody. I am flying down to Melbourne mid-October. I understand that the APPT Melbourne Leg is going on around that period. Does that mean that there will be no cash games at the Crown and just tourneys? Some information on this will be helpful. Thanks

Cash games continue as normal. Sometimes during major events, they don't have 1/2 N running, but from memory, that has only been during the Aussie Millions in January.

So, rest assured, it is business as usual, 24 hours, 7 days a week.

work permit will be the biggest challenge. If you're 30 or under, you can get a 12 month working holiday visa

if you're over 30, you've got no chance unless Crown would sponsor you on a 457 visa and that would need to be a permanent hiring and I doubt they could justify that for a poker dealer

Yeah, thanks for the info. There is also a 400 short stay visa but I'd have to convince them that my job is "highly specialised" and of course get Crown to hire me and assist with the process. I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen at this point.

I guess I'll just have to save up and take an actual vacation like normal people do.

Did anyone see the $5/$10/$20 PLO game that ran last night? It was insane! Usually they keep all the high stakes tables at the back, but for some reason on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning), they decided to keep it running right near the walkway so that we could all watch the action unfold.

There were several players there with $20k+ stacks! Like someone literally had 2 bananas ($5000 chips) and a whole stack of gorillas ($1000 chips) and multiple stacks of tigers ($100 chips). They introduced a $40 straddle to make it essentially a $20/$40 game, but I never saw the blue chips actually being thrown in the pot... it was mostly just black/green chips being used.

Did anyone hear about the poker regs that got a lifetime ban from Crown about a week ago? Apparently they were a bunch of 5/5 and 5/10/20 players that used a whatsapp group to share hands and the cameras caught them... this could just be a rumour though.

Regs scheming to screw over the non-regs?

If true, pretty ****ing stupid to think they wouldn't get caught.

Just a couple of players on my 1/3 NLHE table were talking about it a few days back. These were the same guys that claimed they used to play 1/2/5 PLO with Joe Hachem so I'm not sure how credible they are. They could've just been bull****ting.

Hi I'm thinking of playing live for the first time and was looking for some advice. I was thinking of playing 1/3 since the 1/2 structure doesn't seem good. What is the competition at 1/3 like? How good are the good players?
