These thugs could have done this in any cardroom, but I'm having a hard time believing that the culture Commece allows to persist wasn't a contributing factor.

Any direct witness can correct this, but it's unlikely that they just jumped this guy spontaneously. There were likely profanity laden taunts directed at him first. Those taunts would at least get you a time out in other places. But people like this know Commerce is a place you can come and be an ******* with few consequences.

We (I'm guilty of it too) even joke that it's just Commerce being Commerce. From now on I will think twice before saying anything that remotely suggests there's any humor in allowing this kind of atmosphere.

I hope your not being sarcastic. Although it is entertaining, I'm going to advise against casino violence on-property. I'm a card player not a UFC fighter.

Sarcastic? I was just curious what provoked the entire incident.

Oh lol oops.

I don't know, I was playing the 1-2 PLO 30 feet away. I asked the dealer and this other guy and neither knew either.

I am proud (brag here) to say that I won like three hands in a row in that game for a profit of around 200. Never been back since.

Because of the min/max being just $40, there is little room for play as it's shove, shove, shove....

IIRC, the big blind is $2 so this:

Unless people are min raising, any pot-sized 3-bet pretty much commits you and anyone who calls it when the effective stacks are near the $40 buy-in.

I think I played this game exactly once, and it's not even suitable as a time killer while waiting on another game.

Someone told me they are going to remodel the poker room or was the person confused with the convention space room which is currently being redone as far as I'm aware.

-What are the next NLH stakes available after $40 NL?
-What are the rakes in those games?
-Min/max buy ins?

Currently, the 40NL is a capped $40 buy in, you can rebuy for $60 if you get felted (you're allowed to short buy too but I wouldn't recommend it). Rake is $1 preflop (SB), going into the flop they take $2.50, and another 50¢ if the hand goes into turn. So usually $4.

i havent been in the commerce in about 4 yrs now, but i used to think it was the ONLY NL game in which the rake could be beat so it was all i played. i wouldnt play the $2-3 NL, the $3-5 NL or the $5-5 since they were raked much higher. i figured the higher rake, usually $7+1 would mean those games would be unbeatable in the long run and the $40 NL with the lower rake would be easy money.

Do you still think this about the 40NL now? Or did you change your mind?

Hey,
Planning on going to LA for 7-10 days.
Do Commerce offer poker room rate? Or does any of the other casinos in LA offer it?

Hey, can anyone tell me about the neighborhood just east of the commerce? Is it decent or really sketchy. I was thinking of planning a trip and staying in the Montebello area near the Santa Ana Freeway.

Commerce used to. I would imagine they still do. Give them a call to double check.

It's almost 2018. How in the world does this place still used lead based chips? (at least in the $1 and $5 dollar denoms)

Thats a good question... Though I think the lead portion is the metal puck inside of the plastic chip... The outer plastic (which you actually touch) is well, plastic... Unless you peal off that sticker you do not come in direct contact with the lead portion (I believe)...

Though the checks with the metal embossed part in the middle, I'm pretty sure that is not lead as it doesn't tarnish...

Hi. Anyone have any recent info as to if there is still a poker rate for staying at the crowne plaza there and if so what is it?

Also are there any other decent places to stay near by?

$100 + taxes per night if you book in advance with a players card.

I've called around to some of the hotels mentioned in this thread and they have all said they do not have weekly rates. Does anyone know of any that be $300-400 within 15 min or so?

You can get monthly rentals at some, but no weeklies. I'd ask about that if you're staying a few weeks. You will have to sign a rental agreement for the one month basically.
