the rule is an invitation to douchebaggery, but most decent floors won't allow it repeatedly.

What will the games be like during the upcoming Choctaw Fall Poker Series starting Sept 26?

I'm sure nobody here has heard of Jim Traber before or maybe some of you have. He played college football and baseball and football at Oklahoma State in the 80's and then went to on to play some pro ball for the Orioles and then finished up his pro career in Japan. Anyway, that is enough of a synopsis on Traber.

So, Traber does a sports radio show in Oklahoma and he is pretty polarizing. Through the span of the day I will find myself in complete agreement with him to later outrage. In any case what was interesting in in his show today was that he lead off talking about Choctaw casino. He had said that he went down there to play in one of their Saturday tournaments. He crapped on the tournament, their rules, their management, the whole nine. Every tournament that I have played down there I have found it to be anywhere from standard to exemplary. I have never found the need for the heat that he gave. Just wondered if anyone can elaborate on his sentiment or would like to comment or if anyone is familiar with Traber and this stood out to them.

Never heard of him.

But, it's entirely possible he had a bad experience. Choctaw has been having problems for a while now. There is no leadership in the poker room and each shift floor rules their own way, and some floors have favorite players or players they dislike. The poker room has been going down hill for a while and it appears Choctaw isn't interested in it anymore (my perspective). The poker room has a new manager, but this manager also manages all the table games downstairs. Not really a manager but just an overseer. I wouldn't be surprised if the poker room loses their room in the future to high limit slots and ends up in a side room with just a few tables.

I hate to say this, because I've been loyal to the Choctaw poker room for many years (since shortly after the original one opened), and it does seem like the Poker Room is declining. The only time it ever seems very busy is when there is a large tournament in town. Otherwise, the action simply isn't there. I don't think it's because of the difference in rulings among shifts - that happens at Choctaw's primary competitor, too. Just seems like Winstar is larger and always has LOTS more action. Outside of a major tournament, Choctaw struggles to get a $5-$10NLHE table going. Sometimes, even on weekends, getting a 2nd $2-$5 NLHE table can take a long time.

Not sure how to fix the problem, either. Choctaw is successful enough that it is undergoing a major expansion.

Open now. They have a new poker room manager and are running specials to get people in to play. I would say they don't intend to close now because they are giving away a free truck to the poker room this month. Don't think they would do that if they intend to close in another month.

I have been told by upper management that the poker room is not closing, it seems that this rumor starts up every year at this time. The wsopc will be moved to the new event center in 2015 with plans for promotions that will draw more players. By the way no casino can hold a wsopc event without a poker room it just isn't feasible.

Is James Box gone? If yes, who is the new Manager?

Well, well, look who finally popped up on BRAVO. No game listings yet, but probably good timing on their part. First thing people will see is all the monster circuit action.

I don't see them on mine. Were they on and are now off, or is my app not showing me something that yours is showing you?

They popped up the day after I posted. This may certainly influence my decision to make the trek down there more often if I see they have some decent sustained traffic. I am also glad they made the decision to jump in.

How are the games playing lately? When I was going pretty frequently about 2 years ago the action seemed pretty nitty.

It is nitty except during tournaments. I do love the Choctaw room and dealers. But the action simply isn't there, except during tournaments, and then it goes nuts.

Just a reminder that the daily touraments and poker promotions are on hold during the WSOP circuit Jan 2nd thru 20th with the exception of the Holdem and Omaha bad beat jackpots.

I'm curious to know what the stack sizes are for the 5-10 NLHE game that's been running lately. I called the room and its $500 min, uncapped max.

For anyone that's played the game lately (or knows otherwise), are there a lot of shortstackers in this game, or does it generally play deep?

wow - uncapped is VERY unusual. Must keep it uncapped during the Circuit event. Last year during Circuit, it was capped at $1,000 or 70% of large stack, whichever was higher. That's why they got the $10/$25 NLHE game going - Those stacks were uncapped and there would be around $50,000 on the table at once

Just wondering if Choctaw still runs the poker player rate for the hotel rooms. I know they probably don't right now because of the series but when the series is over will there be a poker rate for weekdays and weekends? If so, what is it?
