Hello,

I'm in Stockholm for a business trip tomorrow and i was wondering about the cash games at Casino Cosmopol. What stakes are running regularly?

Is there a dress code there? Is it reasonable to exchange Euros or is it expensive to change there?

Are there other poker rooms in Stockholm?

Any infos would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm not a regular but I visit maybe once every could of months. It's the only legal poker room in Stockholm.

Poker room opens at 6pm and closed at 5am. Rake is 5% capped at 100SEK.

Most common game is 20/20 NLHE, starting from 6pm, but there is always one 50/50 NLHE game each night starting at 7-8pm. There's no LHE. 20/20 is the lowest limit and play is comparable to 2/5 in the US. Everyone plays weak aces and top pair weak kicker is the nuts. At 20/20 an UTG raise to 120 will usually get called in 3 or 4 places.

Max buy in for 20/20 is 2000 and for 50/50 it's 5000.

On a Thursday around 10pm you might have 1 or 2 tables of 50/50 NLHE, 8 tables of 20/20 and maybe a table of PLO or dealers choice.

There's usually a tourney starting at 6pm on Thursdays so there may be a wait for cash games around 7-8pm.

The poker room is on the 4th floor so you don't get many people wandering in from the main floor. Drinks are expensive so you don't get many drunks. Most people at 20/20 have an idea how to play.

You'll have to pay to get in (not sure how much since) and you'll need photo ID. You can usually get in with jeans, t-shirt, and trainers. Jeans and collared shirt and you'll have no problems.

You can call the poker room on 08-781 88 05 to get your name on the list for cash games but you need to get there within 30 minutes.

Enjoy!

Wow that's a 15$ rake. Do you tip the dealers as well?

Yes, rake is steep by US standards but not excessive by European standards. Australian casinos have a similar rake.

There's no tipping in Sweden. You can tip the bar staff, waitresses, etc. but tipping dealers or floor staff is illegal.

Ok time for some corrections (and the info is pretty much 100% since I am a poker dealer at said casino)

The Casino including poker room is open 365 days of the year, 13.00-05.00. The poker room opens at 18.00 except on saturdays when the tournament starts at 15.00.

Tournaments are played everyday starting 18.00 (exkl sat starting at 15.00) and the cash games start pretty much then aswell.

Cash games offered are (in SEK):

Played everyday include:

20/20 NLH min 500 max 2000
50/50 NLH min 1000 max 10 000

20/20 PLO min 1000 max no limit (most sit with 3000-10 000)

a 50/50 PLO game usually gets going most days of the week min 2500 max unlimited (most sit with 5000-20 000)

We Do also offer Limit games however the interest is so low that we haven't had a limit game for over a year.

Dealers choice is also quite rare and the games offered are limited to PLTH, PLO and 7 card stud high.

We have a few big tournaments every year, these include Nordic Masters, Poker SM (Swedish championship, for Swedes only) and in less than a month we host the Swedish open poker championship (all players welcome) buy in is 20 000SEK for the main event.

During these poker weeks we also get a large interest for 100/100 NLH 200/200 NLH and 100/100 PLO and 200/200 PLO

Previous poster was correct that the poker room is on the 4th floor, however on fridays and saturdays we open up to 8 extra tables on the 3rd floor poker room.

Rake is the same for all games. It is max 5% since we only take 5sek for every whole 100 in the pot (so a 380sek pot the rake is 15) this is capped at 100SEK. Tipping the dealers is not permitted.

The entry fee to the casino is currently a measly 30sek, photo ID is required (passport for non Swedish citizens) Games offered are
* Black jack (min 50 max 10 000)
* Roulette (min 20 and up)
* Punto Banco (min 200 max up to 50 000)
* Sic bo (min 20)
* Caribbean Stud (ante min 50, max 1600, rolling jackpot currently at 4+ million)
* Texas holdem bonus (like CS but texas)
* Poker (of course!)

If you decide to visit us I wish you good luck and a pleasant stay!

Thanks Grumpy Son for your detailled info!

I was there last thursday and played in a 50-50 game with a mandatory straddle to 100 (which is around €5/5/10). The game was pretty good, some nits, some loose passive fish and a few in-betweens.

The casino is very nice, the dealers were all pretty good. The tables are 10-handed.

I wasnt able to get any money with my visa card, because i didnt know the PIN code (i only use it with signature). For some reason i also couldnt get any money with my Maestro card.

I did have 2.500 EUR in cash on me and exchanged it there. They told me i could change it back at the same rate. What they didn't tell me (or i didn't understand) was that they only change back the exact amount you changed. That is if you come back with more money they only change 2.500 EUR and if you come back with less (as i did) they don't exchange it at all.

You can change SEK for chips at the poker table but you have to exchange EUR on the ground floor cashier.

All things considered its a very nice casino, i liked it.

Any updates on this room for an American traveling there on business? Any advice on changing money (in U.S, in Sweden elsewhere, at the casino?) in terms of best rates? Hotel recommendations?

Has the situation in regards to LHE games changed? I see them advertised on the homepage, but do they actually run at all?
Input by a local would really be appreciated.

I am moving to Stockholm and interested if there is an active regulars thread or fb group or something? It would be great to get more up to date info about the level of the games and discuss strategy etc. Also, is there a Cosmopol twitter account where they have updates on the current tables running? (like some London poker rooms have).

So the stakes provided are 10/10, 25/25, 50/50, 100/100, 200/200 (And higher if there is demand for it, which it isn't) The rake is 5% across the board except for 10/10 where it's 10%. So you should probably stay away from said stakes, though they usually are incredibly soft.

NL: 10/10 and 25/25 are being run every day. 25/25 tends to be incredibly reg-heavy, especially during the weekdays. Sometimes you can get a 50/50 going, but that's usually pretty rare these days.

PLO: 25/25 and 50/50 is being ran every day and the playing field is usually pretty soft. Usually you can get a 100/100 table running provided it's a busy day. 10/10 is usually played during the weekends, but it's a rare occurrence.

There is play everyday, but the best days are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
