Bump. Wanna give it a shot tomorrow night for some 1/2 or 1/3 NL. Is it worth the drive or head to Morongo?

Well, they have a 3/5 $300NL game there that usually goes, has a low rake, and is full of bad players. They used to have some sort of players' card system involving stamp cards you could fill up when you hit a full house or better, and when filled, would get you a seat in a freeroll tournament.

Back in the day, they had a very juicy 20/40 full kill limit game, but that no longer goes to my knowledge.

Does the 5/5 game run only on weekends? I went there one or two times and 3/5 action seemed a bit nitty no one really dumping stacks.

Morongo you can buy in 1-3 for 100bb but most don't. 1-2 has a min max cap of $40 and hardly ever runs. The 5/5 at San Manuel does not go very often. It can happen any day of the week if the right players show up.

20/40 limit goes on Friday nights. I hear it is a great game but I don't play limit.

Bumping for some added info:

2/5 is LOWEST NL game and often the only game (2-4 games depending)
5/5 is HIGHEST NL game! On busy days you can get 2 games going, but there are plenty of days this game does not get going.

20/40 w/ kill is a Great game and only runs on Fridays. Sometimes it will run as early as noon or so, but often not till 2-3pm ish. Game often runs all night.

Mostly low limit games (2-4, 3-6, and 4-8 w/ kill) and there are up to half a dozen of each on busy days, but usually at least 3 of each.

Floor -- Probably worst in the world.

Comps -- Water/Soda is free. Everything else is paid. If you have a card, they will give you 50cents/hour, which is pretty terrible, but they forget to clock you out a lot. Usually 1 session = one meal for me.

FreeRolls -- They have quarterly(ish?) freerolls that range from 33k-100k. The 100k has 1000 entrants and I believe the 33s have 300. The 33s are shootouts to 3 tables and then play down from there. I believe the 100k is a double shootout with 2 players from each table advancing each time and then playing down from there. You enter by getting stamps from full houses. If you're a regular, you can qualify fairly easily, but no way you'll make it in if you just play the occasional session.

Dealers -- They have some good ones, quite a few decent ones, and then a few terrible ones. Probably similar to most rooms.

Jackpot -- Aces full of 10s or better beaten and your kicker needs to tie the board or better. Starts at 10k and rarely makes it to 20k before being beaten.

Promotions. During the week its always sometimes. 2 days a week there is an hourly high hand that pays 250. 2 days a week it is Double Jackpot every other hour. And 1 day a week it is a raffle ticket for any full house (drawn hourly and pays between 200 and 1000).

For an Indian Casino in an unpopular area, not a bad room. Comps/Floor suck, but action is pretty good.

My trip report:

Still in the process of checking out LA area poker rooms and decided to visit San Manuel this past Saturday. Overall, it was a favorable experience. I live in what I call 'the bottom right' of the San Fernando Valley, near Burbank, and it was about a 90 minute drive due to some traffic (Welcome to LA).

The property itself is fairly nice, on par with a 2nd tier AC property or Tunica. It is smoking (not in the poker room), which I dislike, but it wasn't too bad. There is a huge parking garage that connects to the casino (walkway is on 4th floor of garage). You can walk/slide walk over to the casino where you arrive at the 2nd floor. The poker room is on the 1st floor at the back of the casino relative to your arrival. I made a detour and got my player's card, then headed in.

The room itself is not open to the casino, but is separated by glass veranda style doors. This has the positive effect of keeping the smoke out. I didn't count tables, but it was at least 40, maybe 50+. The room is set up in an 'L' shape, and there is a large cage right in the room, and the standard Southern California elevated brush stand with a dry erase board for game/list tracking. (Side note: I really wish there was not this allergy to the Bravo system In SoCal. I asked the brush here about it and he was adamant that he didn't want it.)

When I arrived, there was 22 games going; 16 limit (2/4, 3/6, 4/8w/kill) 4 NLHE ($300 buying, 2/5 blinds) and 2 tables of limit? Omaha 3/6 hi/lo. I signed up for the 2/5 game, 11th on the list, and waited maybe 15-20 minutes until a new table was opened. A couple of guys tried to jump the list and were quickly caught and made to get up by the floor. Handled very professionally, IMO.

The play itself is much more like playing outside CA than at Commerce or the Bike. The players were all well behaved, had bathed recently and there was none of the dealer abuse I found other places. There was one incident where a guy playing to my left got sucked out on again on the river and was upset and cursing, and the dealer politely but firmly told him that there was no cause for using profanity at her, and he stopped. Huge difference from ComBike.

I took some time to speak to a couple of floor people, all of whom seemed quietly competent. The dealers were all decent or better, and the floor only got called to my table once in the 7 hour session, and it was the dealer who called the floor on himself when he prematurely exposed the river card.

The players ranged from obvious regs/grinders (having the dealer call you out as a regular doesn't help you :-) ) to casual players, with a range of skill. I was happy with my session despite a couple of dumb mistakes.

The nicest part may be the rake: 3+1 on the smaller games, and 4+1 on the games higher up. That's it. The jackpot is dropped no matter what, and if you chopped on my 2/5 table, $1 was taken from the big blind. I prefer no flop/no drop, but welcome to modern poker.

They do offer food, and comps. I didn't get the rate, but anything beats nothing, and there is a simple menu for players. I had a burger and fries, which was average.

Overall it was an excellent experience. The room got a little warm later into the evening, but was still tolerable. Tradeoff for the smoking barrier. It is important to remember this is a Indian casino, not a card room, so there were many many slots and other table games, although I did not see any craps tables.

I would call it a good poker experience, with a quiet but competent staff overall, and an excellent room for the more casual player.

$.50/hr so not very good rate, but welcome to casinos that have no competition.

A note/update, since Phineas mentioned table count. I believe there are currently 60 tables, but 20 are being removed in the near future in order to make a high limit smoke-free slot room. This could potentially make things tight on a Saturday night (and maybe Friday night), but otherwise it should not change much.

They changed the structure of the NL games.

2/5 is now 200-500 buyin.

5/10 has replaced 5/5 and the buyin is 500-1500.

Good changes on the surface, but one of the floor guys said they're thinking about adding a 1/2 or 1/3 which will probably kill the 2/5

This place really has stepped up there game. Always a bunch of 2-5s. IF you wanna build a bankroll players are so bad in the 1-3, drops kinda high but good promotions daily and a high jackpot always. 5-10 goes a lot of the time. Ronnie and Oscar run the room and are very open to feedback and try to implement change if needed.

We will also be sharing more information on the future of San Manuel Casino in the days to come.

The future is bright.
There is a great deal of action at San Manuel. I'm just wondering where will everyone go to play poker that are locals that way in San Bernardino County. Morongo is a bit far for the locals. However, I wonder if many of them will make that trip to The Commerce. Most of the action in Los Angeles is at The Commerce, The Bicycle Casino, and Hawaiian Gardens. Not to mention The Hustler and The Normandie. Wow....any thoughts?
