Any updates on getting a regular mix game going?

They can hardly ever get more than a few names on the 1/2 PLO interest list. I don't think they would ever have a mix game running. Solid texas holdem no limit type of place.

Are the NL games still soft?

Hey Tips ... I'm well aware of the lack of non-holdem variants since I play there on a regular basis. But like anywhere else, they will spread almost any game if there is interest - you have to start somewhere.

afaik and im not a tax professional, you still have to file US taxes but youre exempted for the first ~80k if you spend a certain # of days out of the country making the money.

Will they have cash games running during the tournament? Will they have bigger games than usual? Do you think the action will be worth going and checking it out? (I don't wish to play the tourney)

+1
Trying to figure out if it's worth the trip. I'm not driving 4 hrs+ and paying for a hotel over 2-3 nights to play in a $1k event and 2/5 NL. Do they have larger cash games going during this tournament series (5-10,10/20)??

What are the min/max buyins for 2-5, 5-10, 10-20?

I'm sure a 5-10 game will run. 5-5 $1K max has been goin pretty regularly recently.

Anyone still play here? 1/2 and 2/5 NLHE, sometimes 2/5 round by round or straight PLO.

Was just there Sun-Tues, they're now spreading $1-3nl, $300max. Played a few hours and the action was pretty dead. Bunch of nitty regs at the times I was in there at least, 2-3 tables going only, interest list for $2-5 but never saw it get off the ground. The average pot size at the $1-2 game @ Western Fair in London was easily 2-3x the size of most pots I saw when I was in Windsor (though admittedly small sample size)

Gonna visit this place next Monday just to cross it off my list. Based on the above comments it seems like your standard place with soft/semi-soft 1-2 and a tougher 2-5 that doesn't always get going during the week.

Anyone have any additional info they care to share? Mostly US players or Canadians? Canadians exhibit any over-abundant behaviors as compared to your average Americans, like all of them are super nits or hyper aggro's ... or basically the same distribution you'd find down here?

Holy epic bump batman.

They've recently switched to a $1/3 game with $100/300 min/max buy ins, not sure on the $2/5 or tournaments. Every time I go over there (from Michigan) it seems like a reg-fest of semi-tight nits. You don't get an awful lot of traffic from the US side any more since the border crossing is such a crapshoot. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes there's a huge line, and sometimes you get randomly selected for additional screening.

Add to that the additional $5 each way for the toll, few % converting your money back and forth and it's not really worth going when there are 3 casinos in downtown Detroit.

The only reasons to go are to keep your Harrah's (or whatever it is now) points active, to watch minor league hockey, or to hit the Canadian ballet (full exposure + booze).

Windsor traffic has really died down, be sure to call ahead to make sure a game is running before you go. It would suck to spend a ton of time at the border only to find out there is no game and to have to turn around

Thanks guys. Sorry for the "Epic Bump". This B&M Venue area would be the only place I would do that to avoid opening a separate thread on an already discussed venue.

A couple of follow up questions:

1) The border traffic was mentioned a couple of times. Not that it is a deal-breaker, but what exactly are we talking about? I am going to cross approximately 4 PM on a Monday afternoon. So is that 30 minutes? 60? More?

2) Does the coming back traffic also get bad? The timing of that will depend on when I quit. Optimistically lets say I run ok and quit when I want to, that would be about 1-2 AM on Tuesday AM. What are we talking about at that time?

3) I see I have tunnel and bridge options. Which would you recommend?

I am doing this mainly to cross another casino off my list (I'm over 180 worldwide now, so it's become something of an OCD thing). It will probably be my only visit, in large part for the reasons you all pointed out. After this, you can find me at MGM or MCC when I'm in Detroit.

PS: Thanks for the tip on the ballet. Sounds cool.

Ask in the Detroit thread (regional communities), there may be a couple of guys that get over there more often than I do.

1) Sometimes 15 mins, sometimes 60, sometimes 5. 4pm on a Monday may be busy with commuter traffic, but may be early enough to not be too bad. Not sure.

2) Traffic back can be rough on the weekends (when I've gone). The drinking age is lower in CAN, so some youngin's go across to drink and party, and the border guys are usually on the lookout for drunks right after the bars close at 2am, so 2am to 3 am is awful. If you're sober and of legal age on both sides you shouldn't get hassled, but if the idiot in front of you causes a delay at the checkpoint you're stuck waiting. On a Tuesday it's probably not too bad, I'd guess 20 mins or less.

3) I usually take the tunnel. It's closer to the casino on the CAN side. Both are pretty easy to get to on the US side though. Bridge is straight out I96/75, tunnel is right off M10. I think the tolls are the same for both.

Many will recommend MCC above all else in Detroit, but I personally like the poker room at MGM more (aside from the Club noise from next door). Greektown should be at the bottom of your list. I'd love to hear what you think of the local joints compared to the other places you've played.

Call ahead.

Thanks Angrist, that's exactly the info I was after. I appreciate it.

My first trip to Detroit was in January, and I hit the MGM. MUCH nicer than I expected. It was on a Monday or Tuesday I think so no nightclub noise to deal with. Walked the casino floor and liked the looks of just about everything, especially that sports bar. The game was ok, a bit nitty for my taste but I lag'd it up for a while and got a few of them to open up. Overall a really soft table. My results were good over a 5 hour session and I'd have no problem going back.

Cool 1st hand there too btw. I sat w 200 and was in the process of getting settled when I looked down at AA in UTG+1. UTG raises for 10 or 12, so I re-popped it for 45 thinking since it was my 1st hand people might just think I was a lag'tard or spewer .. anyway we lose everyone else and UTG shoves all in with KK. I hold up .. welcome to the table.

Next week I'm spending all week in town so I'll do Windsor on Monday, Greektown on Wednesday (short session day..just want to see the place and cross it off my list), then do a medium length session at MCC on Thursday.

I'll probably have to come up there a few more times this year so would like to establish my go-to place next week. I'll check in with you after next weeks run.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised there is such a thread lol ... I'll go over there tomorrow.

I just did a search on my mobile and it didn't come up. Where's it at?

Ok, I found it. Post made.

I concur, now that I have been there. It was so nitty and passive I almost cried.

US > CAN took me 4 minutes including customs. Couldn't have been faster.

CAN > US would have been the same but I got selected for secondary. That added about 15 minutes or so.

Anyone reading this in the future, the tunnel is definitely the way to go. It basically drops you off on the casino doorstep.

Don't intend to go back for these reasons, unless I start coming up here long term. Then I may make it my place of choice just for Harrah's point accumulation.

Just a note for Harrahs point collectors. You earn 28 tier points per hour in the poker room. Reward points fluctuate based on multiplier promotions, but I imagine at the base level it's about the standard 1$ per hour.

Thanks again Angrist.

I've also never seen a casino give away more free rooms then Windsor. Even playing there for only a couple hours means you'll likely have offers available for a couple comp'd nights
